How to Be Happy Despite Someone Else

I live with a difficult person, and I do not choose to leave, because a lot of things in my
life that I enjoy would disappear, also. I would lose my home, my friends, my support system.

I figure that I have 15-20 years left. I want them to
be reasonably happy, and I do several things for myself to keep healthy, strong, & learning new things. I volunteer in the community & enjoy gardening.
How do I put up enough of a wall to protect my well-being from the denigrating comments from another person? How to insulate myself?

After 5 Years, I made a mistake

My AirBnb is the main part of our home; my husband & I live in a separate attached apartment. I have been a SuperHost for the 5 years in business, with a 4.98 rating.
I do all the cleaning, and today was a quick turnover day. I asked my husband to repair a few very small things, which he did successfully. (New guests are staying a whole week, so I wanted everything in excellent condition.) But that put husband behind for doing his prepare-list for outdoors. Which in turn meant I did all the vacuuming; husband often does the vacuuming.
I did a gazillion loads of laundry today, between 2 laundry rooms. I had some brand-new sheets to wash, besides the usual. Somewhere I goofed up & didn’t dry the blankets I needed, until pretty late.

What I really did wrong was that the guests were coming into the house, and I was still upstairs, madly tossing items down the stairs. Husband & I had to quick throw the blankets onto 2 beds, while the guests were bringing in their stuff.

I have been close before, but I have never missed, where the guests saw me & I had to say Hi & apologize first thing. I did not live up to my standards.

Short Story: I was still finishing my AirBnb turnover, when the guests arrived. Is this a horrible mistake?
How can I make sure this never happens again?

I’ve been friendly to deer, but they are eating my flowers

Deer in my yard are eating the majority of my flowers this year. Last year, they began to eat hostas, & now they have found every single hosta & keep nibbling them to the ground. Also, cosmos flowers, tops of native perennials, & the final straw is they topped off 75% of my zinnias. I thought zinnias were safe. I have spent a lot of time this summer, working in my planting beds, and not much to show for it.
What can I do to stop this?

Host questioning how a rate is charged at another AirBnb

I’m a host in the NorthEast US, and our AirBnb has a rate per night, that does not depend on the exact number of guests.
We are renting an AirBnb soon, across the country. When booking this AirBnb, the listing had a certain base rate. As we adjusted the number of guests, the rate went up by about $50/person/night.
We rented with an estimate of how many in our group. The reality is that there will be varying numbers of guests, for each night. I just updated the number of guests for each night, & told the host. He said he doesn’t charge by the person, so thy

Any insights on if you have run into this practice, and is there anything I can do now about it?

Thanks,
Linda

Extended Family Vacation Coming Up Soon

The family vacation (previous thread regarding the AirBnb) is coming up soon.
I realize I cannot control others. I’m getting better at keeping quiet, instead of trying to manage everything.
What else can I do, or plan ahead, so that everything can go smoothly?
We have some strong personalities, depression, autism spectrum, etc…

Grieving Ahead

We lost our son, way too young, several years ago. i went through terrible grief, & still have many of the same feelings. I just have learned how to function better & keep them contained.

Well, our dog (nothing compared to our son) has been given just weeks or a couple of months to live. My dog has been a comfort, he was around when our son was still alive, and losing him will be difficult. I feel that I am going to drown in grief again.
Is it healthier to just go through grief & feel it all terribly (like not getting out of bed) for awhile, or what?
I’m not sure I can handle this

Have you hit the frequent funeral stage yet?

I have started to notice this now, for a couple of years. I am age 64. We are hearing about friends, siblings of friends, and acquaintances, who are dying. 2 this week.
I have watched my parents go through this, especially in their late 70s, early 80s. Now they have outlived so many people they knew.

I wasn’t quite prepared to face so many funerals already at this age. Has this happened to others in their 60s?
What advice do you for me, attending funerals: how to be comforting or helpful?

How to know if it’s your fault you can’t get along with spouse

Going through a long rough patch in marriage. For years, I have truly felt that my spouse was to blame.

How do I tell if it’s actually me causing all the trouble?

Booking Travel Plans for a Family Group

We are planning a trip, to gather our adult children together, for end of July 2026. (Rather late in planning, for reasons.)
My husband & I booked an AirBnb to
accommodate the group, deciding that if needed, we would foot the entire bill, but we had better book it before was gone. We emphasized to everyone the we have about 6 weeks to cancel it, but we wanted to make sure we had something, & they are all welcome (as they have been for the past month) to submit their own ideas.
One child especially is mad that we didn’t run it by her first. We consider that this is what we are doing, since we can cancel it.

Question: How do other families do this, planning a gathering of 4 different adult’s families/singles, from all different states, time zones?
What should we have done differently?

I'm on a Mac desk top, and an iPhone app. In neither place, can I find the option for Add Flair. I see Add Tags, with 3 options (not what I want).

I want to post, and add the host flair, but how?

Thanks

I am 5 years into hosting our AirBnb, which is our home in the off-season. We are in a semi-rural area, with a pond, rowboat, etc.. I feel it is time for an update in the AirBnb. Right now, it is eclectic. Do you think it is best to take one theme, and carry it throughout the whole house?
Examples:
Make everything 1960s
Have everything reflect the pond & outdoor property
Have each bedroom done up in a different them
Suggestions?
