How can conservatives look past Trump's unprecedented stock trading activities?

Donald Trump’s 2025 financial disclosures show over 21,000 stock trades in his first year back in office, worth as much as $1.8 billion, followed by roughly 3,700 more trades in early 2026 worth $220–750 million. This makes him the first sitting president to actively trade individual stocks from the Oval Office. Every predecessor since Carter either used a blind trust or avoided individual stock trading entirely

Some trades have reportedly coincided with tariff announcements, foreign policy moves, and public statements about specific companies (Palantir, Boeing, Nvidia, defense contractors, private prison operators like GEO Group and CoreCivic)

Some trades reportedly missed the STOCK Act’s 45-day disclosure window, resulting in fines

Unlike Carter, Reagan, Clinton, or Bush, Trump kept and actively traded a portfolio of individual holdings rather than divesting or placing assets in a trust managed independently of him

Given that this breaks with roughly 50 years of bipartisan presidential norms around avoiding the appearance of self-dealing, and given the specific overlaps between trades and policy actions... on what basis is this defensible, and does the legal exemption fully answer the ethical concern, or does it leave something unaddressed? How can a conservative balk at someone like Pelosi for enriching herself in over 37 years in office when Trump made more in one year than Pelosi made in her entire career?

Festival Weather Deep Dive

I've seen a lot of posts and comments speculating about the weather this week, and wanted to provide some deeper information on what to expect. I am an armchair meteorologist with no formal education, let's get into it!

There's a lot of local assumptions and misinformation getting tossed around about this storm system online.

This is not a regular monsoon cycle. The NWS Denver/Boulder discussion is describing a genuine, unusually moist monsoonal episode for Aug. 12–17, not just a garden-variety Colorado afternoon-thunderstorm pattern.

The upper-level ridge redevelops east of Colorado on Tuesday night into Wednesday, while a trough develops off the California coast. That creates a configuration that effectively funnels Pacific and subtropical moisture northeastward into the Four Corners and Colorado. It's kind of like an "atmospheric river" event if you're familiar with that, but less focused into a narrow band since the moisture gets absorbed and redistributed across the monsoonal region.

This is an unusually moist monsoon episode. The NWS expects moisture to surge into Colorado Wednesday, with Thursday the peak: atmospheric moisture could reach roughly 150–200% of normal, favoring slow, efficient heavy rainfall and increasing flash-flood potential.

Wednesday
PW ≈ 0.97”
~90th percentile

Thursday
PW ≈ 1.4”
150–200% of climatological average

Friday
PW still above the 90th percentile

Weekend
PW falls somewhat, but remains around 1.0–1.2”

This is a fairly extreme signal, and I'd argue it has potential to be the wettest system to enter the Four Corners region so far this summer.

I would absolutely prepare for a wet and windy festival, especially for load-in. This means bringing additional ponchos and rain gear; making sure tents are staked and adequately tarped so that flowing water doesn't soak thru into your stuff; emotionally preparing for set cancellations on Friday and maybe Saturday.

The good news? Rain and lightning risks decrease substantially by Saturday evening. Sunday, I feel confident will be fairly chill, although the rain could continue.

The best place to track updates for this (if you know your meteorology lingo) is here: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?format=CI&glossary=1&issuedby=BOU&product=AFD&site=BOU&version=1

Do conservatives take issue with Don Jr and Eric Trump's current business dealings?

Don Jr. is a partner at 1789 Capital, which invested in Vulcan Elements, a critical minerals company, in 2025. Three months after 1789 invested, Vulcan received a $620 million conditional Pentagon loan and $50 million in Commerce Department equity, along with other federal support.

1789 also invested in Hadrian, a defense manufacturing startup which recieved $900 million in contracts less than a year after 1789 invested in the company.

Eric Trump was (is? Not sure) a chief strategy adviser to Unusual Machines, a drone company in which his investment network had a stake. In 2025, while Eric was the company CSA, the company received a $24 million U.S. Department of Defense contract to supply drone components.

Out of the 15 companies the sons are affiliated with, 11 have active Pentagon contracts, totaling $3.2 billion. 5 of those companies got their contracts directly after investment from the Trump sons' firms.

Do conservatives find it problematic that the President's sons are so deeply involved in military defense companies that seem to be striking an endless pot of gold in Pentagon contracts?

What to do when neighbor is sabotaging home sale

I'm trying to sell my home. We had an interested party who initiated purchase, but then backed out during the inspection period. The reason they backed out? My neighbor came up to them while they were inspecting the property and informed them that "the neighbor is toxic and ignores HOA rules". The buyers didn't want to purchase into drama, so they backed out.

For context, "toxic" neighbor wanted to build a shed for his RV. HOA said no, the neighbor disagreed with the ruling, so the neighbor is fighting it in court. He has not built the shed or violated any HOA rules, he simply asked to do something and didn't like the reply. A far cry from "toxic rulebreaking neighbor".

So this obviously is a huge financial setback. What I'm curious about is legal recourse if this continues - I can almost guarantee that the next buyers will have the same conversation with the same neighbor during their inspection. At what point is this neighbor acting outside of the law? Do we have any legal avenues for responding to this?

Edit: this is in Colorado

Bridging the Ideological Gap

I've recently started the journey into gun ownership, and am facing an uphill battle with close relatives and friends who are ideologically opposed to the concept of gun ownership and defensive training.

Gun ownership and training is something I've come to take pretty seriously - both as a progressive activist and responsive societal member, and as someone who spends a lot of time in the western backcountry, it's kind of the rational response to the physical environments I spend time in and my responsibility as a citizen of this ailing country.

But I've faced a good deal of criticism from my personal circle who feel like guns bring more bad than good to both home life and societal interactions. Family members don't agree with it for emotionally valid reasons - they've been victimized by guns and/or have spent a lot of time around very irresponsible gun owners. They feel like guns are a blight to our society, and are unable to see the value in the training and investments I've made. It's made me feel pretty guilty for taking this leap, and while I recognize the value in what I'm doing it's tough interjecting that into my community's life when it's bringing such an emotional weight.

Does anyone have advice for trying to convince their progressive anti-gun friends and family that you haven't gone off the deep end, and that you aren't endangering yourself and your peers?

First Experiment on AE - How can I expand on this?

For context, I work primarily in content production for musicians, and I'm looking to dive deeper into advanced editing techniques to have my clients' products shine a bit brighter.

I've played around with some basic fun stuff like Displacement Maps, Turbulent Displace, Chromatic Aberrations, CC Ball Action, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any recommendations?

(The King Gizzard music video Gila Monster was the canvas used on this one, the videography is not my own)

I'm a content producer in the US live music / festival world.

I produce photo and video content for artists with a short-form content focus, with a lot of my work being built for social media marketing. I work with artists of all sizes - international touring acts to backroom club DJs.

Recently, I had a client steal my work and block me. He was a touring DJ from Europe, I had to threaten to sue him through his management label before he paid me. This was a small job, and I did not send over a formal contact, instead just emailing over a quick "approval" list. After this incident, I decided every job was getting contracts and watermarks prior to payment.

A couple weeks later, I bag a client, a rather big one. International headline act. I send over the contract, manager responds "We've never had to sign a media contract before, what is this?" ..... so I ask some of my buddies who work a few levels higher in the game, they all say the same thing: "no, I don't contract my music media work, the music industry doesn't do media contracts"

What the hell? What the helly?

So whatever. I nix the contract for the big client, we shoot, I send over the content, they ghost me. My content gets posted online, but I'm not even tagged - another content producer who obviously is not me is tagged for my work. Three emails over a week go ignored. Now I prepare to sue a very large band.

Can anyone with experience in the live music content world explain why the hell I keep getting burned? And why do my friends think nobody is contracting their work? Surely that's just wrong. What am I missing? I love the work that I do and I'm good at it, but the shady client pool makes me want to change direction.

I'm looking for more music like this track by Tibasko - 132bpm; kind of like an afrobeat but less structured and more rhythmically complex than afro house; lots of world instrumentation and vocalization

Emphasis on the 132bpm, I know tons of artists making similar stuff at like 120bpm, I want it faster
