I have been running openwrt for over a year now It has Awesome so far I am not a network engineer or IT guy or even a linux user ( never used linux before ) i just got up and started with OpenWRT cause i needed some features normal routers won't do

When i started learning about home networking most routers seemed basic and had no features to make their price reasonable, don't get me started on ISP bricks

After a year of driving openwrt daily with help of DeepSeek i run up OpenVPN TAP and OpenVPN TUN servers, Wireguard Server, i run adguard home, multiple DDNS addresses, SQM QoS, my latest project was VXLAN over wireguard to create layer 2 bridge between sites/location which allowed me play Call of Duty on my PS4 with my brothers and friend using the LAN party option ( i gave them both an OpenWRT supported router pre configured to run vxlan over wireguard in a hub-spoke setup using only LAN port 4 unbridged from br-lan and bridged to VXLAN device )

Which brings me to my Subject Now my Brother and Friend both want their OWN OpenWRT routers instead of me lending them one But they don't have fiber connection to their homes and only have 5G Sim Cards coverage, both want only one router at home so no Modem then Lan to wan cable between the modem and openwrt router

So any recommendations ? Router that are supported by OpenWRT Hopefully routers with serious computing power My corrent setup runs Both Linksy WRT3200ACM and Linksys MX5300 with the later being the main Router and the WRT3200 being a backup wireguard server and the main vxlan hub.

So -CPu 1.5GHz Quad core or higher -512 mb ram or higher -265 mb storage or higher -wifi 6 or 7 -Single or Dual 5G Sim cards

I looked up Telstra Arcadyan AW1000 but some fakes are circulating on p2p platforms some are called ULTRA revision which aren't OpenWRT supported also they are highly Priced.

Hello, So PS4 uses Broadcact/multicast to game hosting and game discovery which are layer 2 network features

So i used OpenWRT to create Layer 2 Bridge between 2 sites so that i can play with my friend LAN party games

So far i know that most Call of Duty Games support LAN party gaming. We mostly play Black Ops 3

But now we need recommendation for games that support LAN multiplayers ( without needing Sony's Servers )

Racing games other than F1 are welcome.

Every recommendation is appreciated. We are willing to buy any games that meet our requirements

I am about to get MX4200 for my friend i want to install and run openwrt, configure it then give to him who sadly isn't IT savvy

I looked up openwrt official page and found this quote " Ath11k memory: The ath11k driver needed for the main wireless radios uses a lot of memory when there are few stations connected and low bandwidth traffic flowing. "

Also found this post from 9 or 11 months ago ? https://www.reddit.com/r/openwrt/s/KdlqfM1xkz Talking about this issue where the device eats up ram becomes unresponsive and needs a reboot and the issue gets back again after 15 minutes ( ram usage upto 90+ % )

can anyone advice, preferably people who tried this router with openwrt

My plan is to custom build an official firmware using official openwrt builder with specific packages, i cannot use prebuilt images without specific packages as that would increase time needed to configure it in case of resets and be a hassle to my friend

Should i get this router or forget it

I need answers asap as the router is on the way and i have a short return window

EDIT : So the memory leak issue caused by the ath11k driver has not been fixed/patched in official openwrt as of 21/07/2026, if you own one either shelve it till the issue is patched OR you can use a special NSS build of openwrt that will fix this but you will lose ability to use alot of packages or pre-bake them into the firmware. Unless you have the know how to build your own image

So i have this tiny issue that i am not sure happens on all openwrt routers or just this model i got

I got an mx5300 to install openwrt so i can run tailscale and connect to my devices from outside, because sadly we only have 4g/5g connections and no fiber availability The building i live in has it's own wifi

So i connected the mx5300 openwrt router to the existing wifi and then broadcasted my own i tested by connecting to both 2.4 and 5ghz networks one at a time and broadcasting both 2.4 and 5ghz

I noticed the speed of my broadcasted wifi is not fully close to the building wifi Assume ( due to distance ) my download and upload are 60mbps, 40-60mpbs respectively when i connect my phone direct to builfing wifi

If i connect to my broadcasted wifi and test immediatly after direct connection i get ( 15-30 download and maybe 30 upload ) Speed is fluctuating sometimes i get 15 download and 20 upload wired connections sometimes slower sometime higher

I tried openwrt 24.10.5 and the latest 25.12.4 i think Anyone has a solution i can use ? Is this model specific or openwrt issue, Or is it not possible to get full speed in this arrangement ?

Wo i have a simple question

We are hosting a ps4 lan party, each person has their own old firmware ps4 " for obvious reasons " and monitor, all plugged into the same router

Last console i played online was the ps3 back in 2008 after that never got a chance to it, so never played ps4 online and i have no idea how ps4 voice chats work in/on games

So i wanna know is there a way to have voice chats over games that play LAN party on non-online firmwares for games like Black ops 3, since we will be 2 teams and need communication?

We don't use things like discord but if there are any self hosted apps that do this i'd like to know them

Hi everyone, i am a new tailscale user. And new to networking in general, I just started learning this last week and i think the possibilities are great which brings me to my question.

Trying to setup vxlan over tailscale so that me and my friend who both own an OpenWRT routers can LAN play PS4 games, ps4 game hosting and discovery requires Multocast and Broadcast which are layer 2 while tailscale is layer 3

Talking to an AI agent suggested that if either of us has a puplic ip one becomes a wireguard server then use wireguard with vxlan

Tailscale is built on woreguard and i was wondering if we can use tailscale eoth vxlan to bridge the 2 sites at layer 2 to the ps4s can discover eachother as if we are on the same lan.

If anyone have had tried this and successed or has an advice on the concept behind to do it, ot would be highlt apprecuated. Is tailscale compatible with vxlan ?

EDIT : thanks to everyone who stopped by, i believe i figured it out and managed to get VXLAN to work over WirrGuard in OpenWRT, and got true Layer 2 bridge, i will soon be attempting it over TailScale and hope it works as well.

I've been using ps4 for the past 3 years and i am an active follower of Modded Warfare and i watch every video he posts and i am up to date even with ps5 videos

BUT Anyone else having stability issues ? I just bought a stored ps5 fat and lucky enough it has 6.02 firmware, i followed the tutorial to a T with Y2JB v 1.3 and the autoloader from itsPLK v0.4 and in the ps5_autoloader i added etaHEN 2.5b only made sure that kstuff is version 1.6.7 also from inside etahen autoloader settings i added the following ftpserv, backpork, shadowmountplus and it's notify elf file Sometimes when i try to start a game from itemzflow it refuses to start the game and shows error like ( cannot start app or game ) and few times it gave me an error with a progress bar saying " rebuilding data base " while the console is on. Then i botice that etahen is gone and i have to reboot and reuse Y2JB And if i try to open for example webman inside etahen the whole console hangs and crashes !

So k have some easy questions.

Can someone explain the ps5 game backup types ? I see folders, exfat and ffpkg ? Some work from internal some from mounted m.2 and some only from storage ? And how to use them ?? Honestly this is the most confusing part !!

Does Voidshell still work? I want to try it. If voidshell won't work as of today is elf arsenal ( previously sonic loader ) worth it ?

What elf payloads are recommended for the y2jb ?

But most importantly are game backup formats i still do not understand them and how to use them.
