Love my Hamiltons

Love my Hamiltons

My first nice watch was a Hamilton Boulton. I’ve recently gotten back into watch collecting with quite a few very high end pieces, but I love my Field Khaki and my Hamilton Model 21 Marine Chronometer!

Got it!

Picked up my 4520v today. Decided to take its picture in front of a titanium Overseas Tourbillon Skeleton. I think it holds its own!

Lange 1 - has anyone sourced one from Japan?

The Japanese market seems to have a lot more Lange 1 (in all flavors). The reputation of some of these dealers is excellent. Has anyone bought online from one (obviously with all of the due diligence - video, Timegrapher, service history investigation). If so, how was the experience?

Lange 1 or Daymatic?

I am going to get one of these next year, so I am doing my research now. I live in Atlanta, which is a Lange "desert". We have no ADs and very few used pieces to look at. I saw a Lange 1 White Gold at SWE and loved it. Saw a yellow gold model at Mayor's and just liked it. I think White or Rose Gold is the way I would go.

Now, the real question. I really like the Daymatic, not just because it is automatic (I have two manual watches now and enjoy the ritual of winding), but I think the movement is more interesting. The movement of the Lange 1 is fantastic, but because of the 3/4 plate, you really can't see as much of the spectacular craftsmanship as you can with the Daymatic. A problem is that there hasn't been a Daymatic in the area I can go look at. I know it is thicker, but I don't really think that is a problem.

I will be going with pre-owned for whatever I choose. A 101.xxx reference or a 320.xxx reference. I'm not bothered with getting a full set for the older Lange models. Very few of them on the resale market have box/papers. I would factor in that I may have to send it back to the factory for a full service at some point.

I will keep this watch for a long time, so I want to make the right decision. I probably need to make a trip to NYC to go to the AD and see these models in person, but for now, I'm just doing internet research (at least on the Daymatic).

By the way, I have looked at the Odysseus, the Grand and Little Langes, the Time Zone, 1815 Up/Down, Saxonia, etc. For my first one, I have narrowed it down to these two options.

What do you think?

Next add is Vacheron 4520v and then a Lange 1. Look forward to the feedback. By the way, the Hamilton and JLC are manual. Those zones don't turn.
