Instax Wide for upcoming NY convention

I’ll be attending Anime NYC and doing cosplay photography! While I primarily use my digital Fuji for my shoots, I really enjoy giving the cosplayers I photograph a physical photo as a little keepsake from the convention.

Last weekend, I attended a 3-day anime convention in Montreal and went through 6 packs of Instax film. I actually had to visit the local camera store twice during the convention to restock. 😅

Anime NYC is 4 days, so I decided I’m NOT making that mistake again. 😂 I bought a lot more film this time so I can spend the entire convention photographing and hanging out instead of making emergency trips to the camera store.

My 1st roll from Hasselblad 500 CM

Got my 1st roll back and nailing focus is hard..

Kodak Gold 200

1st and 2nd roll on Hasselblad 500CM

I got my first roll of film (Kodak Gold 200) developed back from my new 500CM. and… well, this was humbling 😂

I shot 12 frames, but only got 10 back, so I’m assuming I somehow messed up loading/advancing the film and lost two frames.

Of the 10 that came back, only 2 are actually in focus. The other 8 seem to have missed critical focus, which is especially frustrating because I thought I was being pretty careful with focusing.

At least the 2nd roll I shot, got 9 out of 12 focused! Any tips on how I can improve focusing? I am using the PME90 prism finder.

Got approved for the Commercial Photography Credential

Excited to share that I got approved for the Commercial Photography Credential for Anime NYC!

It’ll be my first time attending ANYC! I’m also an ANYC+ badge holder, so experiencing the convention is my first priority. That said, I also work as a portrait photographer and absolutely love collaborating with and capturing amazing cosplayers.

I know this new photography credential might be just a money grab. Personally, I do appreciate that ANYC is trying to address photographers setting up large lighting rigs in busy hallways and blocking the flow of traffic. If this helps keep walkways less congested while still giving photographers the opportunity to create, I think it’s a step in the right direction.

That said, if you’re a cosplayer looking for a photographer during the weekend, I’d love to work with you! Whether you’re looking for a quick hallway shoot or a planned session, feel free to send me a message.
I’ll have custom badge ribbons for everyone I photograph, and all paid sessions include a permanent private online gallery to download and share your images, plus an Instax Wide print** **as a physical keepsake. Looking forward to creating something awesome together! 📸✨

Anime NYC hotel reservations

This will be my first time attending Anime NYC!

I booked my hotel through Connections Housing back when hotel reservations opened in January. I received my confirmation at the time, but I still don’t see the reservation from the hotel.

Around when does Connections Housing reservations usually get transferred to the hotel? Has anyone else experienced this with Anime NYC?
Thanks!

ANYC 2026 Photographer Seeking Cosplayers for Collaborations

I have an ANYC+ badge, so my priority is definitely enjoying the Con 1st, but I’m also hoping to photograph some incredible cosplayers throughout the weekend. I’m a portrait photographer and love capturing detailed, creative cosplay shots that really bring characters to life.

As a fun extra, I had custom Anime NYC badge ribbons made and will be giving one to every cosplayer I work with!

If you might have time for a shoot, I’d love to coordinate with you and talk about your cosplay plans. Send me a message if you’d be interested in collaborating.

Feel free to DM me there as well if that’s easier!

First time getting upgraded to First Class from a Main Cabin ticket as a Silver Medallion!

Last year and the year before, 2 years in a row as Silver Medallions, my wife and I were upgraded to First on our Montreal → JFK → RDU flights. I had a solo trip to Montreal last Summer and was upgraded to First on my Montreal → → LGA. But these were all from Comfort+ seats.

This year, we’ve flown more than usual and already qualified for Silver Medallion back in May for next year. Since RDU → JFK is such a short flight, we decided to save some money and book Main Cabin instead. To my surprise, I was upgraded to First Class as soon as check-in opened. My wife on the other hand did not get an upgrade.. but 4 hours before the flight, she was upgraded too!

I know upgrades as a Silver aren’t exactly common, especially from Main Cabin, so this was a nice surprise. Maybe we just got lucky, but it definitely made the flight bearable since we sat on the tarmac for over an hour due to lightning.

For the more experienced Medallion members, how often are you seeing First Class upgrades clear from Main Cabin?

These upgrades have me feeling delusional. I’m already looking at my fall and winter trips thinking, “Surely the Delta gods will bless me again.” 😅✈️

New Hasselblad 500cm owner with Nons back

Me: Bragging that I’m a portrait and event photographer for years.

Also me: Wastes 3 packs of Instax film learning to focus a Hasselblad 500CM and shoots 4 blank frames because I keep forgetting to pull the dark slide. 🥲

In all seriousness, this camera has been far more challenging than I expected. The combination of the waist-level finder and Nons Instax back has given me a whole new appreciation for photographers who mastered these cameras before autofocus and instant image review.

I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of it, though.

Hasselblad 500CM + Nons

Me: Bragging that I’m a portrait and event photographer for years.

Also me: Wastes 3 packs of Instax film learning to focus a Hasselblad 500CM and shoots 4 blank frames because I keep forgetting to pull the dark slide. 🥲 Also, forgetting to measure exposure before shooting multiple times..

In all seriousness, this camera has been far more challenging than I expected. The combination of the waist-level finder and Nons Instax back has given me a whole new appreciation for photographers who mastered these cameras before autofocus and instant image review.

I think I’m finally starting to get the hang of it, though.

Swipe to see the wasted film..
