AMD 7900XTX or Nvidia 4080 FE Graphics?

I'm currently running Fedora 44 with an AlphaCool Core block on an XFX 7900 XTX, and everything has been great. Temps, frame-rates, updates, etc. No issues at all.

However, I'm in the process of cleaning and rebuilding my custom H2o loop, so I have the opportunity to switch to a 4080 Founders Edition with an EK Quantum block.

Question: Because I'm running Fedora, should I stick with the 7900 XTX (24GB) or move to the 4080 (16GB)?

System Specs:

  • Asus ROG X570 Crosshair VIII Extreme
  • Ryzen 9 5950X
  • 64GB Corsair Vengeance 3600MHz
  • 2x 2TB Samsung 990 Pro NVMe's
  • LG 45-inch Ultragear 5K2K monitor
  • Corsair 7000D Airflow with dual 480mm rads, a 140mm rad, 7x 140mm fans, 4x 120mm fans, and a 360mm pump/resevoir combo.

Thanks for your feedback/thoughts in advance.

Xeneon Edge on Linux?

Title kinda says it all. Is anyone running a Xeneon Edge on Linux, and if so, what are you using to configure/manage it? Thanks.

Spent the weekend building my backyard solar array. Four Renogy 320W panels in series will connect to my Delta Pro Ultra. We live in SW Florida, so I left gaps between the panels to easily take them down in the event of a hurricane or serious weather. Next is the transfer switch.

Firmware Bricked Solar Charging on Delta Pro Ultra & Customer Service Sucks!

I have a Delta Pro Ultra with 3 batteries, purchased direct from EcoFlow, that’s been running great for the past couple years. Every couple of months, I set up my EcoFlow 400W portable solar panel and test everything to make sure we are good for hurricane season or other outages. In mid-April, I did a firmware update and I ran my normal testing and the PV ports were suddenly dead. Nothing! I reached out to Support and spent 3 weeks going back and forth with them, testing every possible combination, using different solar panels, and creating videos to show that neither the Low or High PV work. Eventually, they sent me a new firmware to try but it didn’t work. Eventually, they agreed that solar charging on my DPU is dead and said the unit needs to be replaced.

I thought things were moving in the right direction unit I got an email from Support today; They won’t ship me a replacement until they receive my defective DPU. That leaves me with a $7,500 brick for an undetermined amount of time while I wait for the replacement, and it also means that I’m forced to go out and buy “proper” packaging to ship it back to them. Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service, especially for a company that touts their Customer Service and for such an expensive unit that was purchased directly from them.

I was considering buying a River 3 Max Plus for our RV, but based on this experience I’ll take my money elsewhere. Return customer LOST.

I created a GNOME Home Directory Migration Script designed to safely migrate user home directories to new location. This is particularly useful when:

  • Distro-hopping
  • Migrating to a new drive or storage device
  • Consolidating user data to a shared storage location
  • Moving from one file system to another
  • Performing system maintenance that requires home directory relocation
  • Setting up multi-user systems with centralized storage

The script automates the entire migration process while maintaining file integrity, permissions, and ownership. It includes comprehensive validation, interactive prompts, and detailed logging.

It also includes a Test mode to verify your environment.

If you give it a try, please leave me feedback. Thanks!!

I upgraded to F44 Workstation yesterday and had a couple of extensions that were disabled in the process. When I check Extension Manager, it shows I'm running an older version than the latest: for example, Desktop Widgets shows I'm running version 15.3, but version 16 is the latest. I don't necessarily want to remove and reinstall them because I don't want to lose the config.

So the question is: how do you "force" Gnome extensions to update?
