How early should I arrive at the airport?

Hi,

I've heard bad things about the lines, etc, at Tan Son Nhat airport. Would you say 3 hours early is enough, or should I arrive even earlier than that? If you've been to the airport (International terminal specifically), what were the lines like?

My flight is next Wednesday at 3.30am, if that helps, but idk if the airport is still busy at that time.

Emirates or Qatar Airways?

I'll be travelling a lot between Asia and Europe this year, and I was wondering if Qatar Airways or Emirates is generally considered better in 2026. They both fly to all the destinations I need to go to, so if you have experience with both, I would appreciate knowing which one to stick to. I'm sure they're both good, but when the pricing is almost exactly the same, I would rather go with the one that's slightly better.

I know the term 'better' is broad, but I'm mainly talking about things like food, layover airport, punctuality, and entertainment and seats. I'll be flying economy almost all the time by the way :)

Safest way to get from Cape Town Airport to southern suburbs?

My flight from Addis Ababa arrives at Cape Town at 1pm, and I need to get to my Airbnb in an area called Kenilworth.

I was thinking I would just get an Uber and that would be the end of it, but I've been seeing that the road from the airport to the city has been called the 'hell run' and is supposedly quite dangerous which is making me anxious.

Is there any way to avoid this road, or if not is the risk of something happening generally low? I'm also considering if getting an airport taxi may be better since the drivers are likely more familiar with shuttling people back and forth to/from the airport.

18M looking for friends

Hi everyone,

I'm an 18 year old guy looking to make some friends in the UK before I move there in September for uni. I'm open to talking to anyone around 18-25 years old and hopefully make some good friends.

A bit about me: I'm quite introverted and not a party/clubbing person. Rather, I prefer chill nights in with a small group of people I get along with. I'm a big avgeek, love simulator games, animals, and cooking (to name a few).

I'm also a bit nervous about moving to a new country and being away from my family, so I feel like getting to know some people beforehand and learning a bit about life in the UK will make the transition a bit easier.

I would also really like to have a genuine friendship with someone, rather than just having a short, superficial conversation and then getting never texting again. I would really like someone who would be able/willing to text regularly and not ghost me. If you are comfortable doing so, I would also love exchanging socials at some point so I know who I am talking to behind the screen, rather than just seeing a random user - if you get where I'm coming from :)

If you think you are someone I could get along with, please don't hesitate to dm me! I would be really happy to connect, and I look forward to talking to some of you!

What is the best way to get from Gatwick aeroport to city?

Hiiii

I'm visiting London next week for the first time, and my flight from Turkmenistan lands at Gatwick airport. I heard that the airport ran out of water, but I believe it's back to normal now.

What would be the most efficient way to get from the airport to the city? I'll be staying in Watford for about a week. I imagine an Uber would be expensive and its too far to walk, so I'll definitely be using the train. Which line would be most efficient to take, and what is the most well-connected station?

Looking forward to visiting!

How walkable is Bath?

I'm going to be moving to Bath soon and was wondering how walkable the city is. For context, I love walking everywhere. It's my main mode of transport and the way I stay in shape. I usually average about 30,000 - 50,000 steps a day.

By walkability, I am mainly focusing on factors such as:

\- Availability of sidewalks

\- Quality of sidewalks

\- Weather

\- Safety on the streets (including at night)

\- Distances

\- Pedestrian zones

Basically, would walking be a viable way for me to get around while in Bath? I'm happy to walk continuously for about 2 hours, and preferably I would only like to use transport for distances longer than that.

If there are any areas that should be avoided due to safety issues or poor infrastructure, please let me know. Thanks!

Looking for friends before moving to uni

Hi everyone,

I'm an 18 year old guy about to move to the UK this September for university from Vietnam. l'll be going to the University of Bath as an international student.

Most of my school friends have already left for university, and I'm quite nervous about going. I'm rather introverted and don't tend to make friends that easily. I also would say that I'm not your typical 18 year old guy - not a fan of parties, clubbing etc. I do like socialising but with a smaller group of people and in a relatively calm environment. I hope some of you can relate.

Basically, I'm looking for someone, preferably my age or a bit older, to help me navigate being in the UK (kind of like a mentor). It would be great to hear from people who have lived there and know the culture well about the best things to do, ways to connect with people, and practical life tips.

It's a huge step in my life as I'll be living in a foreign country for the first time away from my family. I'm also autistic, so adjusting to a completely new environment and the social side of university is something I'm a little nervous about.

If anyone, preferably between the ages of 18 - 30, would be willing and able to help me out, please do dm me. You don't have to be based in Bath at all, as I just want to get some help to make the transition easier if I know what to expect.

If you don't mind, I'd also really like to get to know you as a person rather than just having conversations with an anonymous Reddit account. If we get along, I'd be happy to exchange socials and get to know each other properly — obviously with whatever level of privacy you're comfortable with.

Thanks!

Need help looking for a go to airline

I am starting uni in the UK this September as an international student, and I am looking for a go-to airline to take me back and forth during the holidays home to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam from London. I have done some research and listed the potential options:

Vietnam Airlines (Non-stop)

Emirates (Via Dubai)

Qatar Airways (Via Doha)

Turkish Airlines (Via Istanbul)

Turkmenistan Airlines (Via Ashkhabad)

Air France (Via CDG)

Thai (Via Bangkok)

Air India (Via Delhi)

I don't have any loyalty to any airline, so any of these would work. I'm mainly looking for a comfortable ride that would get me to my destination reliably. It doesn't need to be dirt cheap but also shouldn't break the bank.

I also don't sleep well on flights, so that's why I'm not keen on non-stop routes or those containing one really long flight.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

How early should I arrive at Noi Bai airport?

Hi everyone,

I was wondering how early I should arrive at the airport for an international flight. Would 2 hours before be okay, or would 3-4 hours be recommended? I've heard mixed things about the lines at the airport.

I can provide more info like flight details if it would help.

Also, would you suggest I pre-order a grab, or would I be able to get one on the spot? I'm staying in Tay Ho.

Thanks

Am I weird for my age?

I'm an 18 year old guy, and throughout high school, I have always felt different. If you asked me what my ideal night would be, it would consist of cosying up at home with my dog and some nice comfort food.

However, for the majority of my former classmates, their idea of fun would be drinking, partying, clubbing etc. I'm not necessarily completely antisocial, but being in an overstimulated packed room with loads of people I don't know is pretty much my idea of hell.

If I had to socialise, a coffee meet-up, movie trip, or group barbecue would definitely be my preference. Whenever I tell people about how I actually feel, they usually think I'm weird or lame, and as a result of my 'unconventional' interests plus my reluctance to start conversations, it's been quite hard for me to make friends during school.

I'll be moving to the UK for uni next month, and I'm dreading the social life there, as I've heard the drinking and partying culture is wild. I finally met a group of friends I got along with in my final year, but most of them have unfortunately already left, so now I have to start the process of finding friends again :(

But idk, would you say, from what I've said, that I'm weird for the average 18 year old guy, or were people exaggerating? I really hope I'm not the only one who feels this way 😭.
