I think CSAB should think about this
I think CSAB should consider allowing candidates who appeared for the JEE Main examination under the General category to update their category to GEN-EWS during the CSAB counselling process, provided they possess a valid and verifiable GEN-EWS certificate issued by the competent authority.
Many students are unable to apply under the GEN-EWS category during JEE (Main) registration due to various reasons, such as delayed issuance of the certificate, lack of awareness, or changes in their eligibility status. However, by the time of counselling, they may have obtained a valid GEN-EWS certificate that satisfies all the prescribed eligibility requirements.
For example : I had written JEE Mains exam as a General Category student as I was unaware about Gen-EWS. But now, since I have an EWS certificate I would like to participate in CSAB counselling as a GEN-EWS candidate. Since CSAB considers the Common Rank List (CRL) and not Category Ranks, I hope changing the category will not cause any problems.
Allowing such candidates to update their category after proper document verification would provide deserving students with an opportunity to avail the benefits of their rightful category while maintaining the integrity and transparency of the admission process. Since CSAB already conducts document verification, only candidates with genuine and valid certificates would be considered, ensuring that the process remains fair.
