Favourite FF cover?
By John Byrne. I know Byrne isn't a great guy, I just love his art.
I don't love his run so far, I'm nearly 1500 pages into it and I don't get the hype (if someone can explain what's so good about his run, than that'd be great), but his art is always great!
Watch Revolutionary Girl Utena if you're a Shrek stan
REVOLUTION
I'd be so happy if Schaff made another anime video but only for Shoujo anime. He would love Cardcaptor Sakura!
I just finished every issue of Renew Your Vows, loved it so much
I miss Annie so much now :(
10/10 series, both the original and the 2017 one are perfect imo
This is one of my favourite Spider-Man pages ever (Renew Your Vows Vol 2)
I just adore that Normie got to break free of the Osborn Legacy and live a happy life. :)
This page is just so beautiful to me.
I know some people don't like post time skip Renew Your Vows, but idk, I just finished volume 3 of the 2017 series and I loved it. I'm happy that they changed the status quo, I'd be really happy if we got comics showcasing Annie's whole life as a superhero.
She's such a good character!
I'm sorry, I haven't read Spider-Girl yet (I'm at the Clone Saga of ASM rn, but maybe I'll read it soon bc I really want to), but I understand some people not liking the time skip issues because they feel been there done that?
Is Annie really that similar to Mayday? Annie's legit one of my fave Spider-Man characters, probably my favourite spider person besides Peter. Although I do like Spider-Gwen a lot, since I've only really read her first two runs and haven't touched her new stuff yet haha (Miles is really good too!)
Anyway yeah, adore Renew Your Vows. How volume 2 of the 2017 series continues off my favourite comic run, DeMatteis' Spectacular, in a very natural and satisfying way is great.
It would so easy to just make Normie be like Norman or Harry, to make him the monsters they were (I know Harry was sympathetic but in my opinion, he was still a pretty terrible person even if he did save Peter in the end), but having him actually redeem himself is just beautiful. I just like how wholesome and nice Renew Your Vows (2017) is. It's just so pleasant and nice, the tone being a lot more positive makes it feel like the perfect contrast to how dark and tragic DeMatteis' Spectacular was.
Both Renew Your Vows runs are some of my favourite Spider-Man comics, I genuinely consider them perfect, and I'm not even done with RYV yet!
I hear the characters come back in an Infinity Comic or something later on, so I'll definitely look into that when I'm done. I hope at least that these characters can show up again in a future Spiderverse event or movie at some point.
If I see Spiderling in Beyond the Spiderverse, I'm gonna scream in the theatre lmao. I really hope that happens, it'd make me so happy!
But yeah, best outcome is getting a new Renew Your Vows ongoing. Since Ultimate's over and in my opinion, didn't do a great job at the Spider-Family concept, I think it's actually the perfect time to bring RYV back since the market's open for Spider-Family rn.
Sorry to make the most obvious statement, but I like that RYV actually focuses on it's spider family.
Them shifting focus from Peter to Annie also feels very natural to me.
Maybe I'll make another post when I finish RYV, we'll see.
As for now, if you haven't read it, please do! I promise you'll like it!
I just finished volume 1 of Mark Gruenwald's run, loved it!
It's peak. It's so peak. I loved reading it so much and I feel like any fan of Captain America owes it to themselves to read this!!
It deserves all the hype it gets, probably my favourite comic from the 80s that I've read (although Marvel in the 80s was pretty stacked so it's hard to say).
I loved the stories with Flagsmasher the most, I didn't expect him to become my favourite Captain America villain but here we are lol.
I also love John Walker, he's a piece of shit but he's MY piece of shit!
Battlestar was also a cool character.
Nomad too, there's really so much I could gush about with this comic but it's midnight and I'm eepy so maybe tomorrow!
I don't know if this is my favourite Captain America run, Captain America & Bucky by Ed Brubaker is pretty perfect and I do have some minor nitpicks with Gruenwald's run (like there were a few issues I didn't find too interesting, run really picks up from the second Flagsmasher issue onwards iirc). But it's at least second place behind that one.
The cover for the omnibus, being Captain America annual 8, is also one of the rawest things I've seen. This run might have some of my favourite covers ever, like it has to be a top 5 Marvel run if we judge it based on covers alone.
Doom's Shadow was such a raw arc!! The finale was fire!!
I don't really have much to say on the finale, just that I thought it was awesome!!! Like, Steve going to hell is sick as hell.
Insane how Red Hulk's line about bombing Latveria in his miniseries was tragically paid off here.
Zdarsky continues to be my fave current Marvel writer!!
God, Doom's Shadow was so peak
Just got every Story high score in Get It Together!!
Took me months lol
The final issue of the Invincible Woman arc came out today and I thought it, like 3/5 issues of the arc (I liked the first two issues), was just fine.
Wolverine becoming a skeleton was cool and I also liked seeing Sue get imbued with Power Cosmic. Were both decisions possibly there for shock value? Well, definitely the Wolverine thing. They're probably building to something with Sue.
I'm really hoping her developing light powers leads to an arc about bringing the Silver Surfer back. I just want him back, he's one of my favourite characters in fiction.
The art in the issue was solid enough, but some parts aren't very detailed, which just makes me wish Marvel would give Humbertos Ramos more time to make these comics look the best that they can.
Overall, the Invincible Woman arc was just a miss from me. I feel like I haven't been enjoying the run since the Black Cat issue.
But I do think that North was at his best with one or two off stories and now that we're getting back to that, I do feel like things should get back on track?
I miss when this was my favourite ongoing comic so bad.
I mean no disrespect to anyone working on the comic btw, Ryan North's talked with me on Bluesky a few times and he's a really fun guy. I respect him a ton and the 2022 run was phenomenal in my opinion, the 2025 run also had a spectacular start (issue 3 my beloved), so I do genuinely have faith that the run can turn itself around.
I'm also really excited for Doomquest, that comic looks great! The Alex Ross cover blew me away when I first saw it!
So yeah, do you think the run will get better if you happen to agree with my opinion on it? I know the Invincible Woman arc has it's fans, I certainly wish I was one of them.
Red Hulk (2025) is an absolutely fantastic comic. We need more villain comics, Red Hulk's only the hero of this story by virtue of the fact that his opponents are worse. I adore how despicable this man is. The political themes were cool too.
I think I genuinely prefer Red Hulk over Hulk and Ross over Banner at this point. I'm really curious to read more Red Hulk, I'd previously only read his appearances in Captain America (2025), so I'll read through the 2008 run next
This cover goes crazy!! Mephisto being there has me hyped! It'd make me really happy if Silver Surfer appeared, he hasn't appeared since Death of the Silver Surfer, and it's been a few years since our last Surfer vs Mephisto battle!
I love glazing Zdarsky Cap, it's so peak. It's weird, I only thought it was pretty good before and I actually struggled a bit to get past the first arc, but I've loved issue 9 and 10. I just feel everything from issue 9's gonna be great.
Maybe I'm just too optimistic, but those two issues being so good has raised my expectations.
At the same time though, North Fantastic Four was one of my favourite comics ever and that fell off. But that took years to fall off, so at the very least, I feel Captain America will remain good for at least a few years!
After reading this new issue, really cool that we got issues biweekly this month, I have to say that I think I actually love this run.
Oh and Captain America's now my favourite superhero.
For most of my life, it was Spider-Man. For a bit this year, I debated if it was the Fantastic Four (my fave member there being Human Torch) or Silver Surfer. But I think now, with my current hyperfixiation, it's definitely Cap.
I just love him as this beacon of hope, this valiant warrior who never gives up in the battle against fascism. This man who strongly believes in the sanctity of life.
Him being such an anti fascist character is especially poignant in our current times.
This issue specifically showed it off well, having Cap fight Salvation with really spectacular art by Valerio Schiti.
I love the way he draws Cap's shield, it being so shiny is awesome.
The art in the third image I attached is especially beautiful.
Dude, when Salvation straight up blew that guy's head off.. I legit said "holy shit".
It's wild that a Captain America comic of all things can show something like that, maybe I just haven't read enough comics (I spend most of my free time reading comics, but I haven't read too much gorey stuff), but it just really shocked me.
When that woman shot Salvation, I was legit scared for the life of this random background character lol.
And Cap on a horse, love that!! Maybe since this run also had him on a motorcycle, maybe we can have him ride more vehicles. It'd be cool to see a race car, boat or plane!
I think Salvation, Marius Wolf, is a great villain too. Zdarsky was smart, setting him up early on in the first arc.
I also appreciate Zdarsky not holding back with the political themes, with Salvation going on about how leaders often gain violence through violence like in America.
In all honesty, I'm not the most history literate person, so it is interesting to learn that. I know some countries have had leaders gain power through violence, but I legit couldn't tell you which because I just don't know that much about history haha.
Anyway, so like yeah, I love this run! I think it's spectacular, Chip Zdarsky and the team are doing a great job!
It's genuinely my favourite ongoing comic at the moment. To be fair, I haven't read much of the DC Absolute Universe outside of Absolute Wonder Woman, but at the very least I'm pretty familiar with some modern Marvel releases and I do think this is my favourite out of those.
I need to read the current Iron Man run and the Captain Marvel issue that came out last month though. If there are any other good Marvel ongoings, let me know.
I loved Ryan North's Fantastic Four for a long time, but tbh ever since the Black Cat issue, I haven't really been feeling it. Hopefully North nails the landing though, but as of now, I definitely prefer the Doom's Shadow arc over the Invincible Woman. Salvation is just a more interesting villain than this version of Malice imo!
Oh and I've been going through Mark Gruenwald's run, started a week ago and I'm already 600 pages in. So yeah, I'm really hooked on it lol
