Cyclic vomiting syndrome with atypical presentation

Hi all. This may be long. I am totally open to being referred to another community if there’s one better suited to my situation. I’ll try to keep things minimally gross but TW for mention of vomiting / hospitalization.

I 23F have had recurring cyclic vomiting for nearly my whole life (first suspected episode at 18 months old). In childhood I would have 1-2 episodes annually. When I was 17, the frequency increased dramatically, and I was having at least 1 episode a month, until I was 20, when they slowed down a little bit after I had my gallbladder removed due to stones and stopped using marijuana due to suspected cannabinoid hyperemesis. But I’m still having episodes a lot more frequently than I would like.

I’ve noticed that I tend to have extreme nausea in the mornings after my first bowel movement, especially if it’s a particularly difficult one. Sometimes this culminates in a cyclic vomiting episode but sometimes it can be managed. However i’ve noticed that I tend to have several days or even a week of very nauseous mornings before I have an episode. Often times these weeks coincide with my period or I will experience spotting for a few days shortly after I have an episode.

Some other information-
My vomiting episodes do not involve migraines.
I have some psychiatric diagnoses including C-PTSD and generalized anxiety.
I have a mirena IUD that was inserted in may of 2020.
I recently started taking 10mg of amitriptalyne nightly. I’m also prescribed 25mg sumitriptan nasal sprays and phenergan suppositories as abortive as needed medications for episodes but I have not had much success with them.
I always have to be hospitalized when I have episodes. The only medication know that works for me is IV ativan which obviously has to be administered by a doctor in an emergency room setting.
There are a couple of non medicinal interventions I have some success with for my nausea. Ginger tea, alcohol swabs, sea bands, anti nausea suckers, cold water on my skin, and cigarettes all can sometimes abort my nausea before it becomes an episode. Obviously I would prefer not to smoke but there are times where it is truly the only thing that helps.

I am grateful for any advice or insight anyone can offer and happy to answer any questions. Thanks in advance for reading.

My boyfriend used to go out with caroline calloway

I knew this about him before we were together so theoretically i should have made my peace with it but i haven’t. I did a stupid thing and read her ozempic essay and i’m just like what if there’s a common thread between me and this woman that makes him attracted to both of us. Is that something I would find terrible or secretly kind of enjoy. It’s not something I love knowing about him and I’m not sure how much of that is insecurity and how much of it is judgement

Happy friday, 3 bowls (chicken scraps, kimchi, bean salad) + more details in body text

I actually don’t mind when my food touches but in this instance separation felt appropriate. Here’s what’s going on from left to right.

All the flesh i could possibly pry off a very sparse rotisserie chicken my bf and i have been picking at throughout the week (from costco). It’s mostly skin (no complaints at all.) Topped with a dollop of homemade caesar salad dressing.

Jongga brand kimchi (also from costco). This is a very popular brand but new to me and i really like it and recommend. Super garlicky with a good spice level. They also have a website that features extremely sexy pictures and videos of kimchi that are worth looking at. Truly artful. Whoever is behind that should be making movies. I also want to add that everything we got in our costco delivery this week got refunded because the driver was smoking in the car and it all smelled like smoke and made our house smell like smoke which sucked at the time but free costco!

The bean salad is my every week meal prep that i’ve been making for years, adapted from a recipe stolen from a beloved former roommate. This particular iteration has been marinating for 8 days and contains persian cucumber, corn, chickpeas, pinto beans, light red kidney beans, lentils, parsley, and is dressed in olive oil and roasted garlic rice wine vinegar plus salt pepper garlic powder onion powder.

That’s all from me. I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Just finished: Sluts

Was lent this by a friend who knows I love a good anthology. I really enjoyed it! There are some essays in there (as well as the odd poem or piece of visual art) but they’re mostly short form narratives. They all engage in some way with the idea of promiscuity or other discomforting aspects of sexuality. Almost all of the narratives also explore fringe identities (sapphic sexuality, genderqueerness, sex work etc). There were a couple of pieces i loved less but none i hated or didn’t find interesting! I thought most of the pieces were genuinely really good (although of course it should be noted that many of them address heavy topics including sexual violence and in general there’s a lot of sexually explicit material). I definitely recommend it as a pride month read, especially to anybody who enjoys short form narratives!

Corn tortilla with caesar salad dressing

Shitty day at work (I love working in restaurants but man some tables make it hard!). Still hungry after real dinner. Had some caesar dressing (homemade) i wanted to finish but no lettuce. Was delicious

A child at my job PUSHED me today and the parents just let it happen!!!

I had a table tonight, two parents and two young girls, maybe like age 7 and age 9? And they were so unruly, interrupting me, running around the restaurant, making a mess, the works. I was doing my best to be gracious through all of it as is my job.

At one point i was helping guests at the adjacent table and one of the little girls wanted to go run around again and she PUSHED me to get where she was trying to go!

Mind you I am on the taller side and this was a young child so not only did she push me but she pushed me with two hands ON MY BUTT while I was talking to another table. Which was obviously very jarring.

Of course I turned around immediately to see who had two full palms on my behind and i see both parents, watching on, saying nothing. The mom gave me a ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and I just smiled and said nothing. What are we doing here.
