My cedar mat is too stiff!

Had to stop work on my cedar mat for a road trip. When I got home I found my mat to be very stiff as it dried over the days. Will it get softer with use? Or was there some softening step i missed. The stone tool is a bark pounder that I was using for an unrelated cedar project. Anyone with knowledge of cedar weaving, please help me out!

My end goal with this mat is to have a hole in the middle for my head to fit through poncho style.

Am i recovering well or injured bad

I ran my first marathon 5 days ago not really knowing much about running at all. I just thought since I live an extremely active lifestyle, eat healthy, and my job is purely physical, that I would be able to do it. I did succeed in finishing the marathon but I did not expect the recovery to be quite as brutal as it has been.

My training was very unorthodox as I am a stubborn idiot and like doing things my own way. The longest distance I did before the marathon was a 26 km walk about two weeks before the marathon.

Im trying to find out if my recovery is going as it normally should post marathon.

Day 1 after the marathon was unbelievably painful. I could hardly walk. Stairs were completely impossible. I was painfully waddling a few inches per step.

Day 2 was similar but my waddling was getting a tiny bit faster and I soaked my legs in cold water which seemed to ease the pain quite a bit.

Day 3 was still painful but walking instead of waddling.

Day 4 started feeling a fair bit better so I took my dog for a walk around a 5km loop. I thought the walking would help me recover faster but maybe 5km is too much?

Day 5 (today) took my dog for another walk around the 5km loop. I can’t tell whether the soreness is better or worse than yesterday.

I’ve been very paranoid about permanent damage as I have never done a marathon before so I don’t know if what I’m feeling is normal. The pain that concerns me the most is my kneecaps, with my left knee feeling somewhat worse than my right. Is this knee pain normal on day 5 of recovery?

Also does anyone have any tips or tricks for recovering as effectively as possible?

Any help is greatly appreciated!
