I'm so fed up with everything being unaffordable as a single person

I know everyone is struggling and I'm fortunate enough to have a job and roof over my head. But man, 95% of my income goes to bills (thats not exaggerating). EVERYTHING is so expensive.

The part that makes me extra frustrated is that there's never any real type of benefit for single independent people. The government is increasing the child tax benefit substantially, and while I'm glad for those with kids, it seems like every single benefit is for families or those under the poverty line. I'm not there yet, but I'm close enough. And honestly I'm trying to check myself but the millions of dollars it will take just for families to see a marginal increase every month seems frivolous and unfair to everyone else, because the government needs to start being more intentional about its spending so we can make things affordable for everyone, not just those lucky enough to have a family. Like I'm already doing and paying for everything 100% by myself, where's my fucking break? Sorry for the rant it's just exhausting

Anyone else notice that cannabis "overrides" the effects of ozempic?

I've noticed that when I smoke weed, it brings all my food noise back. Prior to ozempic I was dealing with food noise 24/7, but now it's only when I smoke weed. I've recently quit because it's been really screwing up my progress, I've been borderline binging for the past 2 months because I've been smoking every day and eating way too much, I've gained 9lbs back last I checked 😬 I'm committed to staying sober (for a multitude of reasons tbh) so I'm not too worried about getting back on track but man, physiology is weird.

Is this listing a joke?

This absolute dump on Ave S is going for 325k, is this a joke? Did they mix up the 2 and the 3? I wouldn't even pay 200k for this.

https://www.realtor.ca/real-estate/29914157/417-s-avenue-s-saskatoon-pleasant-hill

I'm genuinely confused as there is currently a different semi detached in good condition on 33rd St for 249k. Better house, better area, 75k less.

Just curious if the person who posted this is smoking crack or...

Can't stand the logic "we're sharing a room, therefore we don't have to pay equal parts rent"

Living with couples is not for the weak! Currently going through a disagreement with my friend. When we moved into our 2bdrm apartment, everything was 50/50 and fair, no issues. Now she's asking to move her boyfriend into the apartment. I was already hesitant because they hardly get along (but that's another issue), I nearly fell over when she mentioned that she expects the rent to "stay 50/50", meaning they each pay 25% and I pay 50%. I mentioned how this is not fair, just because they're sharing a room doesn't mean he's not an equal resident and taking up space in the shared areas, increasing costs for utilities and food, etc. they offered to pay 2/3rds of utilities but they are refusing to budge on equal rent. How the hell is it fair that she gets her rent cut in half yet I still pay the same amount just because she CHOSE to move HER bf in?

It's at the point where I'm going to start inviting random people to live at our apartment but just make sure they sleep in my room. Idc if they make a mess in the shared areas or jack up the cost of utilities. Since the logic is "anyone can stay at the apartment for free as long as they sleep in my room". If you're living there, you're paying equal rent. I don't care if you're sharing a room with someone or if you're sleeping in the fucking pantry you should all be paying equal rent.

Who pays for towing from a private lot? The owner of the vehicle, or the person requesting the tow?

I've heard mixed answers. I see a lot of signs downtown or on private lots that say "paid parking, tow at owners expense".

The reason I'm asking is because when I lived in a condo, I had an issue where someone was constantly parking in my paid spot. The property mgmt was utterly useless. So one day I contacted the City and asked, how do I go about getting this person towed? I was informed that I would be responsible for the cost of the tow, because im the one calling the tow truck. Once taken to an impound lot, the owner would have to pay the lot to get it out + any storage fees accumulated.

However, I've had several people argue with me that if you illegally park on someone's property and get towed, the vehicle owner to pay the towing company.

So which is it?! Can someone please give me a definitive answer lol

AITA for "victim blaming" my friend who refuses to leave a DV situation?

My best friend, we'll call her Melissa, has been dating this guy for just under a year. I immediately knew he wasn't going to treat her well, just seeing how he spoke to her one of the first times we met, I knew it wasnt going to end well.

It started off as emotional/verbal abuse, him telling her shes an idiot, etc. I warned her: this is the type of man who will hurt you. She said "you don't know him like I do, he just doesn't control his emotions well but he's working on it". It wasn't long after that he put his hands on her the first time.

The part that frustrates me is that both me and Melissa's family have been telling her to get out since the beginning. She has a lot of friends/family who would be there for her at the drop of a hat. We've offered her to live with us free of charge, but all she does is say no and get upset with us for suggesting she leave him. It got to the point where she doesn't even tell us about the abuse anymore because she knows what we will say.

I'm getting extremely fed up with her. I know there is an element of coercion and control, but she's had plenty of opportunities to walk away but doesn't because she loves him. I was talking to my other friend, who basically said I'm an AH for judging her for not leaving, as leaving could get her killed. While I understand that, she has been warned since the very beginning but decided to ignore the glaring red flags, and now here she is. She has so many people wanting to help her, but she doesn't want to leave. At this point, I don't have any sympathy for her in this situation because she is CHOOSING to stay with him because she loves him and doesn't want to listen to everyone who says she will be dead if she stays.

I didn't listen to my breeders advice on food and now I'm regretting it

Tldr; I was told my dog shouldn't have food with chicken as it gives him diarrhea. It didn't, so I started giving him chicken and rice formula food, only to later have a 3 month eye issue that me/the vet could not figure out, several tests and $500 later.

I got my Labrador retriever puppy, Gus, back in November. The "breeder" (I say this with quotations because she was like 19 years old, I don't think she's a professional breeder or anything I believe her two dogs just had puppies, he's not registered and only cost $500) told me "he has an allergy to chicken so he can't have it - it gives him diarrhea". So I said okay and his first puppy food had lamb. But then my friend accidentally gave him treats with chicken and - nothing happened, no diarrhea. All the large breed puppy foods at the grocery store have chicken as the main ingredient; I decided to try it out to see and again, no diarrhea or anything. I was thinking maybe the breeder just gave him chicken once and he had diarrhea when it was a coincidence. so this started him on a chicken and large breed puppy food diet. Nothing happened for like 3 months.

In February, he got pink eye. I took him to the vet who gave us maxitrol drops, and it cleared it up. It never "fully " went away tho; he still had clear/white discharge in the morning and a bit throughout the day, and his eyes were always soo red. I took him back to vet, who did a bunch of tests (tear test, ulcers, cornea issues, etc) didn't find a cause. Prescribed anti inflammatory drops which did nothing. I asked at that time about allergies, she shrugged it off and said unlikely. So I didn't think anything more of it. A month goes by and his eyes are just getting worse, I'm getting worried. Back to the vet. She prescribes the maxitrol drops again like he had for pink eye and said to use "as needed". But I know that won't solve the issue.

The next day at work Im talking to my friend and mention the situation. She says her sister's dog had a similar issue and it was the chicken in the food. Immediately I remember the breeder saying how I shouldn't give him chicken. But I was specifically looking out for diarrhea and that was never an issue. Plus this only came about like 3 months into a chicken diet and after he had pink eye.

Literally 4 days into a different diet and he has almost no discharge and his eyes are 50% less red. I feel like such a fucking idiot and bad dog mom for not listening and just finding a different food. Yes I have to pay a bit more for food from PetSmart but it's obviously worth him not being in discomfort every day 😭

I've tried to look into veterinary ophthalmologists, there appears to be two in the city but they're also profs, not sure if they practice or see patients. I tried contacting one but haven't heard back.

I have a 9 month old puppy with pigmentary keratitis. I've gone back to the vet 3 times, only for them to continue to shrug and basically say "idk". They've given me anti inflammatory drops which did nothing. They can't find a root cause and the thought of my dog going blind is making me so sooo sad.

Feeling brushed off at the vet, my 9 month old puppy has pigmentary keratitis?

My sweet boy Gus 😭 I feel like I'm running out of options. It started early Feb when he got pink eye. He had goopy eyes with yellow/green discharge. Took him to the vet and gave him the antibiotic eye drops as prescribed, it seemed to heal up, but then shortly after his eyes became a bit goopy in the inner corner. Just clear/whitish though.

However, his eyes are constantly red. He paws at them sometimes but only when he's tired. He's also developed pigmentary keratitis on his eye (the brown marbling that is on the white part) this is not normal for a puppy! This is chronic irritation. And if it goes over his pupil, he can go blind. I'm honestly so sad because I feel helpless. The vet had tried so many tests - Schirmer test, a corneal ulcer test, a different kind of green stain, and they don't know what is going on. They seem pretty cavalier about it.

First trip back we tried this anti inflammatory eye drops that didn't do anything. My best guess if a cause is that he has a slightly droopy lower lid (you can't see in the pic due to angle) but he's a lab, it's a bit droopy. I think irritants collect in there, cause when I clear his goop away with a clean towel, the discharge often has tiny pieces of hair or dirt etc. Also only the bottom of his eyes looks red.

I have been back to the vet 3 times and have spent $1000 there since getting him (mind you that includes last round of puppy shots + tick meds) but I'm effing BROKE. I cant afford to keep having them shrug, plus they do keep telling me to come back if it doesn't clear up. I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion? I've even considered a veterinary ophthalmologist but they're hard to come by in my city.

I've had an interesting journey with weed. Started at 14, quit for 2.5 years between age 17-19, started again because I felt like "my life is shit anyway, how worse can it get" (I was wrong). Off the wagon for 11 years. 2024 I quit for 2 months before relapsing. New year 2025 I quit and actually maintained it for 8 months. The problem is, I quit because how it was affecting my binge eating. Finally quit expecting that it would fix the problem - didn't 🫠. Start ozempic July 2025 which starts to fix the weight issue, go through a traumatic break up, relapse Aug 2025, here we are.

The thing is, this last relapse is the worst it's ever been. Any days off, first thing im doing is smoking. Ive risked my life and freedom by smoking before work, driving, etc. It has me in a chokehold. It's been a major crutch. However, my life has been a whirlwind the last year. After the breakup, I bought a house. I got my first puppy. But I have a commute now, and I'm chronically exhausted. First thing I do is get home and smoke/disassociate on social media for 5 hours. I don't eat healthy. I don't exercise. I don't take care of myself in really any sense of the word. Even basic hygiene has taken a massive dip.

If I've learned anything about my addiction, it's that I don't call the shots. I cant do moderation. I don't control when/how my urges come up. I SO badly want to hang on to it, because Im still struggling with things like loneliness, depression, etc. I want to start lifting weights and doing it high will get me motivated/happy about it. BUT, I know I don't call the shots. Everytime it's a slippery slope and I end up pushing the boundaries I set. It's also just easier to maintain abstinence, there's no constant bartering with yourself.

I'm ready for my fresh start, I'm actually excited to quit. I know I need to enrich my life if it's ever going to stick though.

So I (31F) am an only child to my parents, who are both nearly 70. My dad is amazing, but my mom never really liked me I don't think. She never played with me as a child (I'm talking about even once) because she was tired. She was constantly irritated and had no patience for me as a child. We constantly fought. I was called a b*tch the first time at age 9. Despite her being emotionally unavailable, she did every other aspect of being a mom. Made sure I was fed/healthy, kept the house in order, etc. She did say "I love you" but I've always felt a general disdain to my entire existence. When I was 17 she said I was a "waste of skin" because I didn't have a job.

Fast forward to now. I recently bought my first house and she's been helping me out a ton, unprompted. She will be like "hey can I come down this weekend" (they live an hour away) which im like, sure. Obviously it helps me out a ton, my mom has been doing Reno's her whole life. The problem is, I'm going through a lot emotionally. I went through a 7 year breakup and I'm depressed. When she comes to my house, she wants to work sun up to sun down. I'm not that way... I'm kind of lazy tbh plus with me being depressed, I can really only make myself do like a few hours of work on the house per day. I also work full-time and commute so I'm really tired.

Every single time my mom comes over and I'm not working as hard as she wants me, she blows up and says how I don't appreciate her and that I should be trying harder, etc. Whenever I come home from work like an hour late she would freak out and cry because she's "there by herself all day". I would always apologize but she doesn't understand. One time I just snapped and said OKAY GO HOME THEN! that was like a month ago and ever since, I've gotten the cold shoulder.

Yesterday I called her to smooth it over, I said I was calling to say I love you. Then she broke down, tore me apart over my "behaviour" (not working hard on my house + being late) and that I need to "dig deeper for my mom". I tried to explain there's no where deeper to go, I'm at the end emotionally.

Later on she messages me saying I should go to a doctor, maybe I'm deficient in something because it's not normal to "be this tired and moody all the time". I just want to say I don't have issues with anyone in my life except her, I'm not known for being a moody person. So all I said was "maybe you should", which set her off, saying my earlier call was bullshit and now I'm "back to being my real self".

That was it for me. That was the last straw. I'm dealing with a lot already, which I've explained a million times, and yet she still tries to shit on me. I blocked her.

However, I'm wondering if AITA here, because she is 70, she has been working a lot on my house and I understand it's frustrating when the homeowner isn't even putting in as much effort (but I truly never once asked her to do anything to my house). I just don't know. I feel like I overreated but at the same time I never really felt like she even liked me.

edit: just to clarify I have been formally diagnosed with depression and have been taking medication for several years.

Me being anti social and hate calling, I liked the SaskTel online chat feature. The last month tho, I go to use it and it says "connecting to a specialist..." And then never does. I've tried 4 different times. I finally caved and just called today, after briefly waiting on hold they hung up on me? Wtf is up with Sasktel
