This new format is trash

Since the lack of support with the “caps for gear” on the website, I took a long break from buying any jones drinks. I’ve drank these sodas for over 25 years if I had to guess. I probably have 225 or so caps laying around in bags and have accidentally thrown away at least that same amount. Sorry, that was a side tangent…

I bought my first bottle of Jones Soda in over a year today. My real gripe is this lazy ass QR code message on the inside of the bottle. What are we doing here guys? This is beyond lazy almost to the point of being distasteful to your loyal customers and the ogs that have been supporting this company for a couple decades like myself. A general QR code, that randomly generates a message?! What?! Who thought this was a good idea? It strips away one of the three core unique features of the drink. One- you see a cool and unique photo on the bottle, two- you get a cheeky and often uplifting message on the inside of the cap, and three-you can save the cap and collect them to trade in for goods in order to show support to the company. 2 of the 3 are gone now??

That’s just my thoughts and I know 75% of the following has already stopped paying attention to all this, rightfully so, but I felt the need to gripe anyways.

Almost ready for paint on my kondo inspired Rick Dom

This turned into a huge process that has taken me months of work (on and off of coarse).

Inspired by Kondo and his dwadge designs.

The overall build was heavily tank influenced and everything is mostly scratch build and kitbashed with various tank parts.

The whole thing is widened and heightened by 3-4mm.

Shoulders are scratch built. Shield is scratchbuilt and bashed with the mechanics of the zaku warrior shield, because why not make more work for myself I guess.

The whole thing will have quite a few hoses and power cables etc. including coming from the gun.

I still need to design a fuel cell type thing for the power source of the cannon, it will go under the backpack, so any suggestions are welcomed of coarse.

The skirts are supposed to be a rusted steel type of look and the real paint job will be chipped down to expose it OR I might rust them up and keep them as is, like they were a recent modification.

If you have any questions on the build, just ask because I would be glad to tell you about the process.

And the base was a random 1/72 airplane diorama I was gifted last month at my local IPMS meeting and thought it would be a decent base for photos even if it’s a little out of scale.

ALMOST ready for paint on my Kondo inspired MG Rick Dom…

This started as a buddy build about 6-8 months ago or so and quickly escalated.

Base kit is obviously MG Rick Dom 1.0. Torso has been widened and heightened by a few or more mm.

The customized aspect really came from my love of Kondo style in general but mostly his version of the dwadge and the other correlating mobile suits.

Shoulders are scratch built and bashed with various tank bits in order to bulk up. Gear doga shield is scratch built and given the connector from the zaku warrior so it’s fully posable…for whatever reason.

Skirts are scratch built and bashed with tank parts mostly and added some reactive armor that I had made from me by a lovely gentleman in Canada.

Fuel cans on the back of the legs are 1:48 drums I salvaged. They will have hoses in the end.

Backpack is mostly tank parts and pla plate.

Just finished the backpack last night and I just need to design and build some type of fuel cell thingy for the the modified beam cannon. It’s currently too heavy with the shoulder so something will have to be done. I’ve never seen someone turn the infamous beam bazooka into a mini gun type cannon and I thought the idea would be cool with hoses and wires running to the backpack. Any suggestions are welcomed!

The base is a random 1/72 (?) base that was given to me and I thought it was close enough to use for simple photos but I think I will likely do something different for the base. But it doesn’t look too bad if I’m being honest.

Too much crap to list and who cares, if you do you can ask and I’d be more than happy to tell you what I did. OH and the front skirts look different because that is the base coat that the actual paint will likely be chipped down to in order to expose it. Or maybe I will just rust them idk.

My first model car-05 evo barn find

This is about 75% completed but honestly I’m over it. I’m putting it in a box for a while! I just wanted to post a couple better pictures before it’s out on the shelf.

This was my first car model kit and it was fun but I’d like to get back to 1/35 or gunpla I think. The base model was the AMT 05 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VIII.

.
The concept is this car was someone’s drift car project that has been abandoned for a couple decades. It was driven hard and beat to hell, hence the duct tape and zip ties (I broke one of them before photographing 🤦‍♂️). Obviously heavily inspired by the original Mitsubishi zero (rei-sen in Japanese) and other early ww2 Japanese planes. The flags were made with bamboo sticks and Getz Miniature’s black magic, which is pretty cool stuff if you haven’t seen it. It’s lead free foil paper that is super thin and comes pre primed.

Critiques or comments are always appreciated, I don’t have anyone to talk to about my models for the most part so any ideas or criticisms are welcomed.🙇

I have a 1/35 mini art Mercedes that I’m going to slam and give it a stanced look with a machine gun mounted on the roof for an “as if” polish revolution vehicle and it should be pretty wild when it’s done but who knows when I’ll get to that thing.

WIP on a side project

This started as a quick slump buster but ended up taking a few weeks. This is my first car model and it gave me more trouble than I thought it would tbh.

I just started the light weathering so I decided to snap a few pics. The concept arose when I was digging through my decals and found a cool sharks mouth set. Then I thought “well that would be criminal if I put American warbird decals on a Japanese vehicle!” So I decided to dig out some of my Japanese decals and here we are.

Obviously supposed to be heavily inspired by the Japanese zero and its couple color schemes and I’d say the biggest pain was the headlights and taillights by far! I tried to use pva glue but they kept falling apart when I went to install them. Of coarse I thought I could use a tiny dab of ca without fogging the class only to immediately fog said glass. I tried to make them look like they had duct tape on them. And I wanted to make the bumper look zip tied on but it’s been hard scratch building a zip tie!

The idea is this was someone’s bosozuko style drifting project car that ended up in a barn for a decade or 2. All added details are scratchbuilt obviously and the hydraulic e brake is supposed to resemble the stick inside the cockpit of the original zero. I’m adding dust and light grime rn. Also it will have another sashimono style flag on the back when it’s done. That was made using Getz Miniature’s black magic foil.

I’ll post some better pics when it’s finished.

I’m watching the live action…wtf did they do with Bunta?!

He’s a a stoic old man full of wisdom and they turned him into some dipshit drunkard?! I’m only halfway through but the way they are shitting on my dad is really rubbing me the wrong way. Don’t get me started on Itsuki. It’s honestly so bad, it’s funny.

The actual drifting scenes are pretty cool.

My town had yardsales this weekend and here are a few finds

Although not technically from a thrift store I still count it thrifting if you find stuff out in the wild. At least in this case since it didn’t come from some grifty reseller of some sort.

I was stoked to find the 94 cowboys crewneck and the old Wilson crew neck, both were .50 cents each!

The hats were like a dollar maybe, and I was really fond of the funny fishing one. Also the camo one has a really short brim, assuming for bow shooting purposes?

I picked up my wife these Jordans for 5 bucks and I found her a whole box of ribbons and vintage materials for a couple bucks. She was extremely happy with all the ribbons and stuff for her journaling she acted like I hit the mother load or something. 🤷‍♂️

I was also excited about the old radio, that works, for a couple bucks and I grabbed my friend from Canada that old hockey figure. I didn’t know who it was but apparently he’s someone well known. lol

All in all it was a good weekend and yardsale season is one of the only redeeming qualities of living in rural Ohio! I have no one to share this with so maybe someone else who appreciates a bargain will think it’s cool. 😅

Does anyone know how to replicate this stuff?

Does anyone have a recipe for a homemade version of something like this? I’ve managed to make some homemade “paste” using wood filler and fine dirt but it’s not the same and it’s a bit too sticky. I’m working on my first diorama so I’ve never had a need for mud and dirt but I’m curious to see what people use.

Can you help me identifying this part?!

I’m building the Dragon Pz III (FL) Ausf.M and it says this piece is used but I can’t find where they go! They have PE replacements as well for what it’s worth. I don’t see it fitting directly in anywhere but if it’s on the list, it’s gotta go somewhere!

Thanks for the help!

WIP of my Jagpanther diorama

I’m at a stopping point for a bit while I acquire a static grass applicator and paint my figures but it’s starting to look pretty cool I think. I did screw up the layout a bit because my original intention was to have more of a dirt road with a couple bikes and soldiers on but it’s ok.

I’m going to add some various supplies scattered on the ground down the slope after I finish with the dirt and stuff. I still need to cut a couple slots out for the tracks to make the tank look heavy but I’m not 100% sure on the layout so I’m waiting to pull the trigger on that.

Crits, advice, and ideas are very welcome. This is my first diorama/vignette so I’m kind of shooting in the dark here.

I’ve been working on this build for a couple weeks. I bought it at a swap meet for 10 bucks because it was already started. I should of offered 5. The hull was glued together, he glued in all the torsion bars, and interior was started ( I ditched the idea of full interior) but tons of things were not lining up and it took a lot of work to get it to look halfway decent. It was supposed to be a “quick build”.

Then I thought about doing a vignette or small diorama with the tank being broken down on the side of the road (probably a busted track) and a bicycle guy and a couple donkeys are walking past on the road. I figure it is late in the war and supplies are getting scarce and replacement/spare parts are essentially nonexistent to the front lines. The Germans had tons of horses and donkeys so it kind of makes sense. This is my first attempt at making a “historically accurate” tank.

Also I don’t think that wheel will be on the back, it was going to be the broken wheel that caused the broken track, essentially.

I wanted it to look like it came from the eastern front and the remnants of the winter camo are almost gone. I still need to finish the weathering and finish the tracks and stowage. The tracks are really cool, they have holes in the horns but you have to place each track horn in it’s little spot, very cool looking but a bit of a hassle. The guy who started it ruined 1 half of the tracks by glueing the horns into the holes of tracks so those are toast. Might work for a busted track though, hence my idea for the vignette.

Any critiques or ideas or thoughts are welcome. I have no modeling friends really and my wife just thinks whatever I do “looks cool” so thanks.

Let’s try this again….

Here are some kits (and some sprues!) I picked up for some incredible prices and I thought I would share to see your thoughts. I was discussing with a fellow Reddit user that I met, that these swap meets kind of ruin your ability to buy kits at retail prices when you see them online.

The classic tamiya 88 super kit was hard to pass up at 9.50 (15% off) and it comes with Edward PE set. It will definitely need a new metal barrel that isn’t supplied but that’s ok. I think I’m going to save the cover and frame it because the art work is amazing. It’s a very old kit and you can see someone was working on a collection at some point by what they marked on the instructions. I love seeing stuff like that.

I’ve never built an amusing hobby’s kit so this one should be interesting. I have a t-72 from trumpeter but it has like 1200 pieces so this one seems more approachable and I’ve been wanting to do a Ukrainian tank since I have a bunch of reference photos saved. I traded the new tamiya m36 kit for it since I don’t have any plans for a ww2 American destroyer at the moment. I did want the figure that comes with it because it looks too cool with the grease gun and knuckle duster knife!

A guy gave me this Border apocalypse tank for free. I didn’t know it was a snap kit, no glue or paint required, technically. It also comes with LEDs which I thought was interesting. I don’t really build Russian occupied vehicles so I will likely do something weird with it that’s more my style. Maybe a Gundam (federation use) tank🤔

Idk if anyone has gotten any of these “gen 2” dragon figures but the details are ridiculous and the barrels of the guns are already drilled out. You can build the rifles with the actions open as well, that blew my mind. Lol

Not pictured is a small bundle of life color paints that a dude was selling for .50 cents each. I’ve never used them but hear great things about them from high end modelers. The gentleman selling the 88 kit had 2 tables FULL of models top to bottom, he was moving to Turkey and had to liquidate his stuff and it kind of broke my heart to see. I only brought 25 bucks or something so I wouldn’t buy any new kits! So much for that…
