Do you believe Lt. Gorman was chosen specifically by the company for his inexperience to lead Ripley and Co. on LV426?

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts(shout out to the PO crew.) They suggested a theory that I had never thought of before. That Lt. Gorman was chosen by the company to lead the crew down to Hadley’s hope because of his incompetence and inexperience.

Because Burke and the company suspected there were xenomorphs down on LV426 and they set up the crew to fail so it wouldn’t interfere with the infestation on Hadley’s hope. Perhaps some may even come back impregnated.

While I don’t agree with this, I think it’s a super interesting take.

In my opinion I always felt that having an inexperienced leader making decisions that could kill people was a great metaphor for how government/military work during times of war. If memory serves me right James Cameron wanted to do a “Vietnam in space.” So it makes sense to me that the people in charge are so removed from the action that they assign whoever to fill the position so it looks better for the bottom dollar. Having a team or “just a grunt” die is no big deal when you can replace them with another. And another.

Anyhoo, what are your thoughts?

I’ve seen a lot of discussion in regards to Amanda Ripley’s return in AI:2. Do you think she will be a playable character, an NPC that guides you through the environments or no appearance?

In my opinion, I think she’ll probably return as an NPC that helps guide you throughout the game. In a perfect world I’d love it to be more like RE9 and you play as both Amanda and a new protagonist.

What are your predictions for enemy types for Alien Isolation 2. Besides the drone/warrior Xenomorph of course!

So obviously I think we’ll have other colonists to deal with. I think we’ll have their version of synthetics as well. My hope is we’ll see other Xenomorph types besides ol’ Stompy and facehuggers. Maybe a chestburster or even a queen.Since the company knew about Sevastopol I wouldn’t be surprised if we see more company men and maybe even mercenaries.

Not exactly an enemy type but it seems that with AI2 being planet side it seems that the environment will play a big role in trying to survive as well.

What are your thoughts?

Do you think they’ll include prequel things like Black goo or engineers?

“That’s when the attack comes. Not from the front, but from the sides; and the other two raptors you didn’t even know were there.”

Dino Dream: “Raptors in the Visitors Center.” 1/15th models. I’m not sure how this stacks up to other velociraptor toys/models etc, but in my opinion this may be one of the best depictions of the original JP raptors.

Serious question: do you think the inclusion of a Weyland Yutani helps or hurts the predator franchise?

Which of these two films are you most excited to see?

With The end of Oak Street coming out at the end of the year I’d say I’m pretty excited to see what happens in this film. It’s nice to get another “dinosaur” movie outside of the park/World Series. It’s not beholden to stick to any preconceived ideas set by previous movies so the sky is the limit so to speak with where they might take this.

With that being said you can’t go wrong with a new JP project on the horizon. I hope this new film scales things back. Perhaps a return to mainland Costa Rica or South American jungles is just what the series needs to gain some traction again.

What are your thoughts? Are you excited for End of Oak street? Do you want more JP with another small scale film like rebirth or something that’s global like Dominion?

Between Dominion(Giga)and Rebirth(D-rex) which “dinosaur” antagonist best utilized?

While I feel that both of these two antagonists were incredibly underwhelming; I’d have to go with the Giganotosaurus, as the best utilized. It might just edge out the D-rex in screen time. It fought the rex and had a few scenes with the human protagonists that seemed to carry some tension.

I feel that the newest installments of JW really lacked in the “big bad” dinosaur antagonist department. it seems that these films have the giga and d rex as more of a spectacle than anything. When you have a “big baddy” just for the sake of things it feels far less effective as a threat.Especially when you compare them to the rex, raptors or Spino from the previous installments. These antagonists felt like a real threat to not only the human characters but the other dinosaurs as well! Every scene the rex, raptors or spino was in had a sense of gravity to it. These dinosaurs also felt more fleshed out and less like set pieces. They felt more like actual characters than a prop.

What are your thoughts? Also, if you could choose a new baddie for the next film what would it be?

-id go with a megaraptor like Maip macrothorax.

Stan tooth replica: It is the second tooth from the front in the right maxilla.

Sue tooth replica: unsure of location in jaws.

Unfortunately since the location of Sue’s tooth is unknown in the jaws the comparison isn’t exactly a 1 to 1. But it’s fun nevertheless.

Left to right: Chiquita Banana, FMNH PR 2081: nicknamed Sue. BHI 3033: nicknamed Stan.

Image 2:
Chiquita Banana and Stan’s tooth. At its widest it’s as thick of not thicker than the banana.

Image 3: Sue(left) Stan(right)
It’s incredible how much more massive Stan’s tooth is compared to Sue.

After some thought, this question is harder to answer than I originally believed. Of course these films all have their merits.

The original JP film has the greatest sense of awe and wonder out of the original trilogy. Every scene with dinosaurs count, the human characters are all likable and in my opinion it’s the best paced film out of the three.

The Lost World Jurassic Park has the best sense of adventure. Everything feels so isolated and wild. The stakes are higher, there are even MORE dinosaurs which deliver a greater spectacle. The characters are charming and developed although there are too many which take away from the main characters. Pacing feels somewhat clunky and it sticks around for too long.

Jurassic Park III feels like a made for TV film, and I don’t mean the disparagingly. While the plot is somewhat contrived it’s a fun chase film once the characters are on the island. Its a quick film too only clocking in at 1hr 32 minutes. The Spinosaurus is absolutely iconic and the Velociraptors have arguably the best animatronic/puppetry out of the 3 films.

Now, despite the fact that I think the original is not only the most superior film out of the entire series and if one of the greatest cinematic moments of all time I’ve still got to go with TLW JP. It’s almost as good as the original and it even exceeds it in grandeur and spectacle at times. It feels like all fun no filler. There is no discussion of how dinosaurs are made or summary to catch the audience up. The film is on the island after the first 25 or so minutes and it’s all adventure after that! It’s so entertaining!
