Food switch question for 6.5-year-old German Shepherd
Species: Dog
Age: 6.5 years
Sex/neuter status: Male, neutered
Breed: German Shepherd
Body weight: about 115 lb
Location: Southern California
My 6.5-year-old German Shepherd has been on Hill's Perfect Digestion Salmon for the last couple years and has done well on it, especially with stool quality. Before that he was on Purina Pro Plan, first dry only and then dry mixed with wet food, but his stools were never quite as good and he eventually lost interest in it.
Lately he seems bored with the Hill's and less interested in eating it. Even if we add treats or toppers, he's often still not very eager to eat right away.
When we first got him, we tried chicken-based food and it seemed to make him itch, although he loves cooked chicken as a treat.
He also has a recurring licking/hot spot issue on his left front leg. We have brought him to our vet for it before, but we are still unsure whether it is food-related, environmental, seasonal, behavioral, or something else. It improves when we can physically prevent him from licking it, but he eventually removes whatever covering we use and starts licking the area again.
We are considering switching foods and are looking at Merrick Limited Ingredient + Healthy Grains Salmon & Brown Rice, Merrick Healthy Grains Salmon & Brown Rice, or Royal Canin German Shepherd Adult.
From a veterinary/nutrition standpoint, would it be reasonable to try a chicken-free, salmon-based, grain-inclusive food first, or would Royal Canin GSD be a better direction despite the chicken by-product meal? I am also planning to ask our regular vet, but wanted general guidance on how to think about this.
Thanks in advance!
6.5-year-old GSD bored with Hill's Perfect Digestion Salmon - what would you switch to?
My 6.5-year-old German Shepherd has been on Hill's Perfect Digestion Salmon for the last couple years. It's worked well from a digestion standpoint and his stools have been much better than they were on previous foods.
The issue is that lately he seems bored with it. He still eats, but he's not very enthusiastic about it and often won't eat it right away, even with toppers or treats mixed in.
A little history:
- Started on Purina Pro Plan (dry only, then dry + wet)
- Never completely solved his softer stools
- Eventually seemed to get bored with that too
- Switched to Hill's Perfect Digestion Salmon and stool quality improved significantly
One thing that complicates this is that when we first got him, chicken-based food seemed to make him itchy, although he loves cooked chicken as a treat.
He also has a recurring hot spot/licking issue on one front leg that we've had checked by our vet before starting last summer when we moved. We still don't know whether it's food-related, environmental, seasonal, or something else.
Right now I'm considering:
- Merrick Limited Ingredient + Healthy Grains Salmon & Brown Rice
- Merrick Healthy Grains Salmon & Brown Rice
- Royal Canin German Shepherd Adult (but hesitant because it has chicken by-product)
Given his history, which direction would you go? Or is there another food you'd recommend instead?
Would You Support a Rockies Uniform Refresh Like This?
What would you recommend for me? Preferably not a pure comedy
I took the Wolves 00s logo, removed the workmark, and added a trees border, what do you think?
Has anyone with A-List that was charged full price for the Odyssey been refunded?
During the Odyssey ticket release last week, we all know the AMC crapped out on us. So I decided to use Atom Tickets, which is connected to my AMC Alist account. I had a reservation spot available. However, I was charged the full price even though I had an unused A-List reservation available. I still completed the purchase because the alternative was losing the seat and potentially spending the rest of my life wondering what it would have been like to see Odyssey opening weekend from that specific chair. I can see it used up one of my 4 reservations despite paying for the ticket. Has anyone in the same situation actually received a refund yet, or are we all currently owners of a very expensive A-List reservation?
Is Knicks-Spurs the rare NBA Finals where neutral fans do not have an obvious villain?
The Finals start Wednesday, and I have been trying to determine which team neutral fans are supposed to dislike.
Normally this is a straightforward process. One team has been successful for too long, one fanbase has become too confident, or one player has developed a recognizable facial expression that causes people to become upset.
This year is less clear.
The Knicks have not won a championship since 1973 and have not made the Finals since 1999. New York is also the largest media market in the country, so if the Knicks win, the response will probably be extremely calm and limited to a reasonable number of newspaper articles, television segments, podcasts, commemorative shirts, and conversations with people who were not previously aware they cared about basketball.
The Spurs should be easier to root against. They already have five championships, and this is their first Finals appearance since 2014. But it does not really feel like the old Spurs returning. It feels like a new problem developing earlier than expected.
Wemby is 22 years old. He averaged 27.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.4 steals, and 2.7 blocks in the Western Conference Finals, then helped eliminate the defending champion Thunder in seven games. He is already in the Finals in his third season, which is good news for San Antonio and somewhat discouraging information for the rest of the Western Conference.
It is also difficult to dislike him personally. He seems less like a standard NBA villain and more like a polite alien who was sent to Earth to block shots and answer questions thoughtfully.
So this feels like a rare Finals where both teams are easy to root for now, but one of them could become significantly more annoying very soon.
If the Knicks win, do neutral fans enjoy the moment or immediately regret what they have allowed New York to become?
If the Spurs win, how long does Wemby remain universally likable before everyone realizes this may keep happening for the next decade?
First time in Montreal, your city is electric
First time visiting. I'm hardly a hockey fan but it was so fun being out with everyone and riding the subway. Couldn't find a spot at any bar. You guys definitely deserve an NBA team, or the Expos back.
I genuinely like the name OJ and I’m trying to figure out if I’m being delusional or if people are overreacting, because yeah obviously OJ Simpson exists and that’s the first association for a lot of people, but at the same time it’s two letters, it sounds clean, short, kind of sporty, and I like names that feel a little unconventional without trying too hard, plus I already like OJ as in orange juice so it has a positive everyday association for me, and there are random athlete pulls like OJ Mayo and OJ Howard that make it feel more like a real name than just initials, so is this one of those names that’s quietly fine in real life but gets destroyed online or is it just not worth the baggage no matter how much I like how it sounds?
I've been going back and forth, this seems to be the only boy name me and my husband can agree on! Lol, it's powerful and unique but I've gotten some weird looks.. what do y'all think? We don't even know the gender yet.

The screen was going in an out throughout the film. At one point the audio went out and followed by the screen going to black. The crowd was hilarious getting so upset and throwing out jokes. I've been going to this Dolby for years and never had an issue until now. I'd be curious if any other Michael screenings at this location had the same issue. Would hate to go through that again.

So yesterday I was driving on the freeway and there was an exhaust pipe or something in the road. I thought I missed it, but I ended up hitting it and my tire popped immediately, rear passenger side. I put the spare on and checked the tire, and it looks like there was a previous patch that ended up being the failure point.
Anyway, these are my Firestone Wildpeak AT3Ws. They have about 35,000 miles on them and still a good amount of tread left. I would expect them to last at least a few more years. My rear driver side tire also has a patch from a previous nail.
Since I am on a budget, my first thought was to just replace two tires. But they do not have the Wildpeak AT3W anymore, only the AT4W.
If you were me, would you just replace all four? 35,000 miles does not seem that old. Or would you replace two, and if so is it fine to rotate them if they are different models but similar, and also 35,000 miles apart in wear?
