"How far that little candle throws his beams! So shines a good deed in a weary world." [1080x790]

1950 Ètagère a glass shelving & lamp unit by Frederick Weinberg.

A 1950 black aniline dye finish (they also came in red) DCM, which was produced specifically during the late 1940s and early 1950s making this one a 1st generation.

When form meets function & the golden warmth of a glow to be cascading all down along sheets of glass, while filling up the room in warmth = SANCTUARY!

The Mitchell Residence c 1956

This mid-century modern home located in Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania.

The Mitchell Residence which was originally designed in 1956 was by architect Ehrman Mitchell for his own personal residence.

A more recent addition to the rear of the home was designed by Krieger Architects, who meticulously matched the original proportions and materials to preserve its iconic modernist style.

Isn't this jewel nestled just perfectly within it's surroundings?

Merle's Drive-In Coffee Shop c 1951.

It's location was at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway & MacArthur Boulevard in Corona del Mar, California. It opened in 1951 & featured a dramatic cantilevered roof & a tall, tapered pylon sign typical of the Space Age aesthetic, I hope all that didn't sound too AI-ish for all you snowflakes ❄❄🥶❄❄ out there.

A signature horseshoe-shaped counter with chrome-rimmed stools occupied the central space & the dining area was filled with Formica tabletops with booths upholstered in bright orange naugahyde.

The original building was demolished in the early 1970s. Today, the site is part of the Corona del Mar Plaza shopping center

"Big-As-Life Pin-up" c 1956

Vintage 1956 "Big-As-Life Pin-up" wall mural featuring the iconic Hollywood actress Jayne Mansfield.

Published by Hillman, this life-size color poster was marketed as a 5-foot-tall (approximately 21½ in. x 62 in.) "living-color" decoration. The advertisement lists various suggested uses.

Jayne Mansfield was a prominent 1950s sex symbol known for her platinum-blonde hair and hourglass figure. She was one of the early Playboy Playmates, appearing as Playmate of the Month in February 1955, which significantly boosted her career and the magazine's popularity. Original versions of this poster were typically sold folded inside a cardboard sleeve for $1.00.

According to the directions; "You can mount her on plywood." 😅🤣😂

GOOGIES / John Lautner c 1950.

Googies Coffee Shop, located at 8100 Sunset Boulevard, and Schwab’s Pharmacy, ca. 1950.

The name Googie was derived from this coffee shop designed by the architect John Lautner in 1949. Before the name, the style started to emerge in the 1930s with the increasing popularity of cars and cities spreading to suburbs.

The name articulated the style of architecture that became atomic / modernism.

The rare book of matches (complete) from Googies & the one from Windows of the World from the Twin Towers are my favorite, in my collection.

The Girl Watcher / Earl Leaf c 1959

This is the cover of the March 1959 debut issue of The Girl Watcher, a short-lived American men's humor and pinup magazine.

Produced by Bonanza Publishing Co. and featuring photography by Earl Leaf, the publication was presented as a satirical "guide to girl watching," though modern analysis often highlights its highly sexualized and predatory themes. Only two issues are known to have been published: March and June of 1959.

Includes photos of famous 1950s "blonde bombshells" such as June Wilkinson and Mamie Van Doren.

Tired of collecting bottle caps? 😂🤣😅

The Kaufmann House / Richard Neutra c 1945.

Richard Neutra’s Kaufmann House in Palm Springs was designed and built in 1946–1947, although some sources claim that the preparatory contact between client and architect occurred in 1945. The house exemplifies Neutra’s approach to designing a house and its surroundings as a single, continuous environment, a concept he had begun to work with in the early 1940s.

Next to John Lautner, Richard Neutra are my favorite!

Usonian / Frank Lloyd Wright c 1951

The Roland Reisley House, located at 44 Usonia Road, Pleasantville, New York.

It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1951.It is one of only three homes in this historic district actually designed by Wright himself; the others were designed by his apprentices.

It is a prime example of Wright's Usonian style, built into a hillside to appear as if it grew organically "of the hill". The structure is based on a hexagonal grid, meaning there are almost no right angles in the entire house.
