Adam's style vs Colleen style in regards to colleagues and followers
Hi, just to clarify - two things. I find it interesting that Colleen. also wanted suggestions from fans, even from Adam. But as far as I remember, she did not ask people to give her money for the "privilege" of then giving her also suggestions?
does Adam's Patreon have like a second tear, i think, where people should pay Adam (as is customary on Patreon), but not for perks but to give him video suggestions?Literally is it presented as sthg you pay for? ... I see there is also a flair here in this sub called Video Suggestions. I guess that is at least something that we do not have to pay for, but is it a tier on Patreon?
Colleen complained about youtubers using Patreon but now her family uses it too.
in a similar fashion,
Adam complained about something else - Youtube is known for filtering various risky words linked to more sensitive topics. Everyone knows that and to avoid de-monetizing of videos, most Youtubers censor, bleep up, etc., such words, which is very standard. Most websites these dates might not display even your comment unless you skip or censor certain words. It is at times annoying, sure, but it is kind of everywhere.
I've seen a part of Adam's video
where he criticized youtubers for this. Sure, it is his choice to upload something without any censoring of any specific words - but why insist that it makes him better than any other youtubers? Most people are not exactly rich, many are financially strugging more than Adam, it is normal business to try and keep their videos monetized and therefore bleep certain words. Why was he saying that he is somehow better?
He was implying that the other youtubers do this to spare the viewers' feelings which of course we know is not even true.... The trigger warnings serve better for that - so we can click away completely if today is not the day to listen to something extra difficult for us, sure.
But why judge people for doing the standard practice of bleeping out words?
Skyler was too emotional, why couldn't she be more like these guys?
Felt weird about him laughing at the 80 year old in the Brasil part....
I assume John Oliver does not exactly smile happily, when working out.
And I am aware of certainly not looking great when I work out - so....what was that bit about how funny an 80 year old dude from Brasil looks like when he works out?
I felt just weird watching it. i also kept thinking - his body certainly does not look bad compared to 80-year olds from my family.....
Literally a joke about his face? Most 80 year old people generally have sad-looking resting face unless they smile, what do you want from them?
.....Like, any 80 year old always looks kinda down, when not smiling...
Also, what do you think I look like when I work out, being half of that age....?
I dunno I guess the joke is that he is still a politician....?
So politicians just always look bad.... so he should not film himself working out unless he looks like he's 29, and smiling like a stewardess in 1960s?
in the episode SpoiIer AIert ...
Marshall tells Ted that his girlfriend is actually "a total nightmare".
Why does Ted later imagine, that the reason all his friends would dislike her so much,
the reason why Marshall would call her a total nightmare,
is a reveal that ....
she is transgender post-surgery?
For Ted, that would justify his friends yelling at her and calling her a nightmare?
Jack Frost (Father Frost) морозко ...
While I'm happy to find quite a few MST3K fans acknowledging that this movie is not a bad one (and was written and created intentionally to be at times comedic), I am still surprised at how much the riffing reminds me of Doug Walker(Nostalgia Critic), who of course did not have a platform back in the 1997.
I laughed at some of the jokes. After all, even back in my childhood days we did make jokes about the Sun literally obeying a human and the Earth spinning backwards.
I rolled my eyes when the jokes were nothing besides simply referencing some piece of American pop culture or American media.
I was confused at the riff of complaining that it is way too boring when an abusive stepparent is abusing the teenager over only sock-knitting. I wonder if that is the same complaint MST3K would make about various Cinderella movies. Disney's Snow White seems to be cleaning the floor at the beginning of the movie - is that cooler type of abuse than knitting, I wondered....
And I guess my biggest pet peeve - the meeting of the abused teenager with Mr Frost.
She literally has ice on her eyebrows, her lashes and her hair.
She is shivering.
The rude Frost dude dares to ask her whether she's warm - twice indeed. She is such a passive, subdued, damaged kid, to the point that she keeps insisting she's fine. A few minutes later, she literally passes out because of hypothermia and even in that moment dumdum Mr Frost naively asks what is happening.
Imagine having to explain your medical condition while actually passing out.
The moral of this scene is the culture in which it was created: An ideal woman never complains and never asks for help, never bothers people with her needs. Frost literally praises her for not telling the truth about her condition.
She gets praise for telling people to let her freeze to death, bcs she's fine.
All that MST3K did during this scene was some random jokes about how she should call cops because a stranger is talking to her....
Nothing about how she literally needs an ambulance.
No jokes about how
this is a woman the entire Russian and Slavic culture is praising even in 1960s.
No riffs about -
see girls? Even when dying, don't you dare bother others with your problems.
Made me kinda sad.
