Getting ahead of porting issues

Hi, my 15yo has been on Telstra monthly prepaid recharge since we got him a phone maybe 3y ago. Me and his dad take turns to recharge his phone using our debit or CCs.

Due to price hikes, we want to change him over to Boost, who have an EOFYS special on for 365d prepaid.

Because his dad and I are separated and communication not always easy, I want to get a head of any potential issues porting. (His dad and my son agree to do it, it's just me and my son that's got to go through the actual steps).

So, what info do we need and where do we find it? I understand he should already have a my Telstra ID....and that we can get this by entering a number in his phone (I've looked it up but don't have it to hand). What else do we need? I can't find any Telstra info Ive written down for him, eg PW.

I'm just nervous about spending $250 on something if we can't successfully port his number.

This would be for a physical SIM btw, that I would buy in-store.

Thanks!!

NSW incentives for energy efficiency/solar/battery - sense check

Hi, I'm a homeowner in NNSW. I have 12 solar panels that were installed over 6-7 y ago (before I bought the house). Not sure of their capacity but I export to the grid in all seasons other than winter, but not much in autumn/spring. No battery yet.

I heard about the NSW govt incentives of a $4K subsidy for home energy efficiency, and interest free loan up to $15K. I would be keen to fit a battery, and maybe more solar - but I am not sure if I will stay here long term as my partner and I may be looking to move in together, elsewhere, in about 5-6 years, maybe less.

I would like my next car to be an EV, hopefully in the next 1-2y.

So whatever I do, it needs to make sense financially given that I may not stay here long term. What would make the most sense in this scenario? Small battery? Roof insulation? More solar?? Are there any trades I can engage to assist with this decision? TIA

Very part-time and variable availability, worth applying for annotation roles?

Trying to work out whether to apply for annotation roles with various annotation platforms or similar. Or if I should do something else entirely.

My regular job does not have as many hours as I'd like and I would like to earn a bit of extra cash. However that job can sometimes ramp up and then I have very little spare time as I am a mum and have other commitments.

Are there any annotation or similar type jobs that you can do with irregular hours of availability like this? For example some weeks I might have four or five hours other weeks I might have zero and maybe occasionally I might have 10.

I am a bit torn about whether to look into this further as I hear nightmare stories about a lot of unpaid onboarding and trying to get your head around the whole process. It might just be easier to pick up occasional other casual in-person work, although to be honest that also involves a lot of unpaid time on Airtasker etc bidding for jobs which you don't always get.

For what it's worth I'm in Australia so I also need to focus on platforms that do have projects hiring here. My background is healthcare.

Thank you!

Homestay hosts, Qs

I was thinking about becoming a homestay host. Partly for some additional income, but also as I love other cultures and have travelled extensively.

My situation: I (50s f) have share care of a mid teen, who is here approximately 50/50. Also a large dog.

We live in a 3brm house with one of those bedrooms set up as a study. I would have to convert that into a proper bedroom which would not be a big problem as it already has a sofa bed in there. I currently already mainly work from the kitchen or a bench in the lounge area for better ergonomics. Unfortunately we are not that near a major city, being about 30 minutes south of the Southern Gold coast. There is public transport to the Gold coast but it can take about an hour.

I have a partner who lives about an hour away who I traveled to see one night per week and he comes to my place on the weekends usually for one night.

I'm there for thinking that if I could/did do a homestay it would be more suitable for a young adult rather than a school kid. Because I would be away one evening a week. (I'm assuming they don't allow under 18s to be home alone in a homestay situation?)

My considerations of the possible negatives are:

- lack of privacy for my teen, direction to their routine potentially. Possible exposure to anti antisocial behavior or other issues.

- lack of privacy for me especially when my partner visits, we would like some private time, not sure if it's possible to specify I would like somebody who works on a Saturday...Also I wouldn't want either the homestay student or myself and my partner not feel at home in the place. Our place is not really big and it doesn't have great sound proofing so if somebody's playing a TV in one room you could hear it throughout most of the house. It's nice just to be able to veg out with either my son or my partner and watch some TV without worrying about disturbing somebody else or them us.

- I might not be considered a suitable host because of the distance thing. I'm not sure whether young adults would want to stay in our regional town if they were studying on the Gold coast and wanting to go out late. It would be pretty hard for them to get back at night.

- having to cook, this is not really a big one as I do cook quite a lot, however it might be difficult to cater to some dietary preferences but I think I would do fine with that.

So I'm just wanting to hear people's honest opinions if they have done this sort of thing before especially if they were in a similar situation. The impact on your family or routine and whether the positives outweighed the potential negatives.

Thanks in advance!

AI paper daily

So I've had my AI paper about a year now and really love it for what I do. My work is basically case management so I have a lot of phone calls for which I have to take notes, often jumping around from client to client within the phone call, so it can take a while to separate out all the information and put it in separate notes for each client, but I'm getting quicker at that.

I primarily use it just as a replacement for a paper notebook but with some degree of file organization. That mainly works well.

However I've been thinking a bit about using daily which I have not ever touched, specifically to dos. As I hear that they can now be carried over from one day to another which seems like it would be pretty important.

Currently I just have a weekly to do list which I erase things from when they are done and redo it the next week or fortnight.

So my question is do you find Daily and to dos useful if you have a similar workflow to me? Any specific tips or YouTube's I should watch to get a hang of it before I dive in?

Thank you!

AI training /data annotation

Thinking about this as an income supplement, but worried about scam potential /dubious biz practices.

Has anyone had much success with this? All the subs I see are US centric. My background is health/psych.

TIA.

Cost to remove soil/rubble

Hi I recently had a retaining wall put in and stupidly didn't have the Earth and gravel etc removed out the time. So I now have *two* large piles of clay soil mixed with gravel grass and some fragments of the previous wooden retaining wall plus a small amount of concrete. Each pile is approximately 1 to 1.5 cubic meters. The one that has been there longer is already growing quite a few weeds on it! I'm super keen to get them removed because they limit my turning circle in the car and are an eyesore

Any idea how much this would reasonably cost to remove? I am not sure whether to hire a skip or try to get somebody with some kind of tip truck. Either way I will need the person to shovel or otherwise move the soil into the container to be disposed.

Can anyone advise what this sort of thing is likely to cost. I am in northern New South Wales.

Thank you!!

What to line planting tier in retaining wall with

ETA...Don't worry about size of the planting area, I can grow small veggies there, just want advice on the material to line with, as below

Hi, I've recently had a retaining wall built, with a tier to allow planting of veggies etc. See pic.

Retaining wall is brick with gravel drainage and geocloth lining. Now trying to work out how to finish it, to give a space to allow planting of veggies. It gets sun nearly all day. Climate is almost subtropical, high rainfall, high 30deg in summer, no frost

Original plan (did a test area as in pic) was to do a double lining with weed mat on the bottom and hessian as inner lining. Want to avoid the soil being washed through the lining fabrics into the underlying gravel, as this could compromise drainage.

But, reading comments here and elsewhere, am now concerned about the weed mat breaking down to produce microplastics. So what can I use instead? Not sure if hessian alone will stop the soil washing down.

Any ideas appreciated!

Thank you!

Funding period rollovers in question?

I'm hearing (via a provider) that NDIS will at some point stop ppl rolling over funding from one Q to another. Ie if you have 3 therapy or SC hrs left at the end of Q2, you will just lose that and not be able to roll it over, adding it to Q3 funding for a big report etc. If so, this sucks. Have NDIS actually released any info on this, and if so, which funding categories are expected to be affected?

Thanks
