If you’re an FD and want to get a bachelors online, which degree are you choosing?

I’m a licensed funeral director and considering furthering my education online. The obvious choice would be a bachelor’s in funeral service however it doesn’t seem like that would make a difference in my state. I’d love to do thanatology, I think I would enjoy that.

I have personal reasons for wanting to do online classes and I won’t lie, being able to temporarily stop student loans would be nice as well.

Which degrees would you recommend? Is there something that would go nicely with a funeral director background if I ever wanted to switch careers? Or even, maybe if I wanted to apply to be a teacher at the local mortuary school someday. I’ve also seen job postings for a manager position and though I’m a little early in my career for that I wonder if most funeral homes would like an additional degree?

Any advice and direction would be helpful

Nurses, what are your favorite agencies to work with in Pittsburgh?

I’ve been out of the game for a while but I used to work with IntelyCare. I didn’t have any problems with that agency however I thought it wouldn’t hurt to look into other ones. Also, with any recommended agencies, how often do you have to work a shift to stay hired with them?

Is it crazy to want a day off every week?

Just need to rant. After 3 years at my first funeral home as a funeral director I’m finally ready to put my notice in. I’ve been speaking to other funeral homes, nothing set in stone yet, but I have a back up career I can lean on. At this point I don’t care.

I am so tired of working every single day, every single weekend, not having set days off, working evening visitations, and getting called in at any day or time.

The worst part is never knowing. It’s impossible to make plans because I have no idea if I’ll be working during the day or during the evening. If a visitation doesn’t pop up then I could still get called in. I never know my schedule. I essentially work 24/7.

We’re not compensated for anything. I’m paid salary, the same amount twice a month. I might not complain as much if they threw me a $20 here or there.

I work for a small family owned firm, we probably do 150+ calls a year. They basically don’t believe in schedules. We work Monday-Friday and weekends as needed. However with removals, embalming, arrangements, viewings, and funerals we of course end up working most weekends.

If I do manage to have a weekend day off I’m still on call which I feel like doesn’t count as a real day off.

We can “request” days or evenings off on a calendar but that has its own problems of course. Like how many days or evenings can I ask off? Who knows but they’ll make comments and get mad.

I’m just so exhausted. I don’t even feel like a real funeral director most times. More like an assistant or professional door opener. I feel like I’m not an owner or manager, I’m not making nearly the same amount as the owners, why am I here everyday? What do I gain?

Help! My bass is randomly loud and crazy

I just turned my car on and the bass is insane. I can’t even have the volume at just 1. I went into the system and changed the bass and treble to 0 and it didn’t change anything. I haven’t messed with anything else

What size fitted sheet for a 14” mattress?

I just bought a new set of sheets from Macys and their website claims the fitted sheet would fit a mattress from 8”-18” which is apparently a lie since it won’t go fully under my mattress and the mattress is visible. Is there a secret number I need to be looking for?

Did anyone have complications with their implant wounds and if so, what happened?

At the end of last month I had a breast augmentation, just implants, no lift. After a few weeks the wounds began hurting and they appeared open with some slough. I’ve been back to my doctors where they’ve begun treating it. Doesn’t appear to be infected. It’s currently packed with hydrofera blue and I use gauze on top for comfort. They appear to be getting smaller and I’m frequently going back to my doctors. Did anyone else have complications with their wounds and did they get better or did you end up with more complications? I’m hopeful but naturally worried and just wanted to hear about other experiences

Funeral Directors, do you work evening visitations and if so, do you have to open the door for everyone?

I’m just wondering how common this is with other funeral homes. I’m a licensed director and have to frequently work the evening visitations with little to no heads up of course since they’re scheduled so quickly. Also, I’ve heard a lot of funeral homes don’t have people stand at the door the entire time opening the door for everyone.
