Going back and fourth between Orthodox Christianity and Catholicism

Hello. Grew up Protestant, don’t like that anymore. And was fully convinced of Catholicism, but! Eastern Orthodoxy has somethings I really agree with. First, I just can’t really get behind Purgatory. Love the idea, but it feels strange, like Jesus can’t fully atone for our sins, but purgatory can? I prefer the Orthodox view on hell. I like that Orthodoxy has a more mystical view of god, and not a fan of the “Catholics guilt”. But, I love the pope, fully believe in Filioque, and do have a care for the Catholic Church and community. I’d love to here feed back.

Opinion on shaving and Muslim countries that enforce men to shave

Hello, non-Muslim Catholic here. I want to know the Muslim opinion on shaving facial hair and Muslim countries, like Uzbekistan and Tajikistan who enforce men to shave. Is shaving a major or minor sin in Islam? And if a man needs to shave for work or if he has a patchy beard? Or he just wants to occasionally shave? If a man shaves at all or regularly, will Allah send him to Jahannam upon death? And what’s your opinion on countries such as Tajikistan and Uzbekistan who have a government instated ban on facial hair, and police will at times forcibly remove it? I’d love to hear the Muslim opinion on this. Thank you for your time.

Why the hate for the Italian-American diaspora community?

Okay, this is a question I’ve seen often but I don’t like how people asked it, and I’m passionate about diaspora communities celebrating their culture how ever they see fit. I’m just tired of the hate. There’s people with years of Italian immigrant roots and I see people just kinda going “shut up, you’re American”. And what’s with the semantics crap? American is a huge country with a very large population. A lot of people have roots in places like Italy, Poland, Austria, Germany, Ireland, France, etc. So the short hand for that is just “I’m Irish”, “I’m German”, “I’m Italian”. 9 times out of 10, they don’t mean they’re citizens of that nation, they’re referring to their ethnic background. Italian and Italian-American culture isn’t the same, there’s a difference, why can’t we accept that? Why can’t we let diaspora communities celebrate their culture?

What’s it like living in Sicily, Italy?

Hello. So I’ve always wondered what it’s living in Sicily. Not sure if I’d ever move, I absolutely love Mediterranean culture and would for sure visit, but curious how life is in Sicily, especially for kids and teens.

Name change. Anthony, Michael or Joseph.

So I’ve never like my name, it’s a very unique name that hard to pronounce, a pain to have to tell people and I just don’t like the sound of it. I was thinking of Changing my name to either of the three in the title. Joseph I’d of course go by Joe the rest I’d likely just go by the full name. What are your thoughts? Which one do you prefer?

New York, NY

I’m from Indiana. I’ve always been interested in moving to New York and the east coast in general. I’ll likely have to move for work anyway so, why it’s like living here?

Edit: Thank you so much for all the responses. My first time in this sub and didn’t know I could respond to your comments. Just want to say I appreciate all the feedback.

To preference I’m not Protestant(well I’m not affiliated. I’m only 16 can’t do the RCIS, yet, of course. I plan to convert when of age) but I’m just a Catholic(in the making) just questioning, why would go allow Protestantism if it’s so bad? I feel like a prot could argue that “oh well, for years you guys were following the church incorrectly and got sent Martin Luther so you can correctly follow god”. Listen, I have a distain for Protestantism, but I can’t help but think about this.

Hi, I’m a 16 year old dude and I’ve always hated my appearance. Looking at myself ruins my whole day. The idea of people looking at me is actually horrifying because I don’t want them to notice my appearance. I wear my hoodie everywhere I can. And it’s sucks because I’m just stuck, I can’t do anything about it. I’m stuck with an appearance I hate just because of my genetics. My family makes it worst. Especially my grandma. She’s 80 years old and says almost every time I see her “oh gosh your skin” and will yell to my mother for me to “get me something” for my skin. It completely ruins my whole week. My older sister will make jokes like “haha you’re going to have acne forever”. I feel my biggest insecurities are always being thrown in my face. And what makes me the angriest, people mentioning it like I dont have eyes and already know. I KNOW! I hate being in my own skin most of the time and think of my appearance properly 90% of the day. I avoided taking or being in pictures and looking at mirrors. Being at school is horrible cause I feel like everyone is judging me. And my family doesn’t understand that part of it. What should I do? They don’t understand, and I’m terrified of talking about my Body Dysmorphia because is such a private thing and I don’t think they’ll believe me. My mom is the last and only person I told and she just kinda dismissed it. I feel so stuck.

I have to rant about this, because it’s so frustrating. I was scrolling and I see a live stream of a dude doing debates and his caption says “there’s no god. No problem. Ride the Atheism wave” why can’t atheist leave us the hell alone? Sorry for my language but it’s very angering. If you wanna be atheist, whatever, but don’t shove it down my throat, at all.

Okay, so I hope this isn’t an unreasonable “what if the became president” but he ran a few times and America in the 80s and 90s I believe he also ran, just couldn’t accept a black president, yet. I’m curious if you think he could’ve won and if he did what may he have done?
