Verizon cannot unlock phone bought from Samsung

Hoping to get some help here as I am reaching a dead end with Verizon.

We bought a new Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra in March when it came out and associated it with our Verizon service to replace an older Galaxy phone. It was paid in cash, which is the key thing to note.

Last week, we decided to move to AT&T. We got two new phones through AT&T and ported the new Galaxy over as a BYOD. Much to our surprise, when we tried to activate the phone with AT&T, we were told it was locked at Verizon. However, the number was already ported over to AT&T so we effectively had a dead phone.

I called Verizon that day and they couldn’t unlock it with every attempt they tried. They assigned us a temporary new number to use the phone while they worked on the ticket. I kept calling back each day for four days, only to be told that the ticket is being worked by the unlock team.

On the fourth day, we were frustrated as we needed our old number back to allow people to contact us and for things like two factor authentication to work against our old number. I made several calls that day to escalate to various levels of management, each of them failing to unlock it. They all agreed that it should never have been locked in the first place. I even sent a receipt of my purchase to the fraud department to prove to them we bought it, to no avail.

One representative said I should contact Samsung to unlock which didn’t make sense but I went ahead and did so. As expected, Samsung said they don’t do unlocks as the device was carrier locked and the carrier needed to unlock.

I called Verizon again and was assigned a dedicated person to my case. They apologized for the trouble and said it could take another 3-7 days to fix and maybe even 30(!) days. This was all unacceptable and given the bind we were in, we decided to have the number ported back to Verizon while they fix the issue.

Yesterday, I got a voicemail from the person assigned to the case to tell me that the unlock was denied by IT as the device was not bought from Verizon and I need to have Samsung unlock it (which I already tried!). As a result, they closed the case.

If it matters, the case number was MR2079085027-E01.

All this runaround is just frustrating for someone to just flip a switch.

If anyone has any thoughts on what we can do, we would appreciate it.

After 4 years, finally!

After 4 years on my path to improving myself, I finally achieved a milestone I never thought would arrive. 🥲

I started at 330lbs and after many peaks and valleys, I reached my goal. I honestly couldn’t believe it when I saw it.

Now I just need to sustain this and make sure it isn’t a fluke!
