Haven’t budged off Windows 10, but I am interested in Linux

Windows 10 is one of the better baseline environments. I run Windows IoT LTSC Enterprise, and have configured my drivers for my audio equipment, my 7900XTX GPU, and display. It’s something I am quite familiar with, and I can expect many people using it as an end result to develop for. I also have rarely had any issues with it.

I’ve recently attempted to broaden my scope by getting into MacOS. Honestly, aside from some minor file differences, it isn’t terrible. Just has a lot of easy trappings that have different workarounds like Windows does.

But Linux remains quite unfamiliar. I do have a Steam Deck. And there are definitely several times I’ve booted into Desktop mode to modify some settings and such. But to make this a main setup? I am not so sure.

Windows has legitimately been my go-to for 2 decades. And honestly, my only real concern is running into an issue I can’t navigate around with one environment. That all being said, I do like tinkering. And I have been interested in seeing if Linux does indeed provide more customization.

Would be interested to hear what people have to say about going Linux from Windows. Or really if the change is notable in a positive aspect.

Anyone weigh in on the TCL 32R84 QD-MINI LED MONITOR?

I was actually thinking about getting a MiniLED monitor, productivity-focused for making video games, and I came across this monitor from TCL.

It’s apparently VERY competitive in terms of spec to price (Like $699 now to an Asus at over $1K). And truthfully before today, I didn’t even know TCL made monitors. I knew they made TVs. Which has me curious.

I know this isn’t a monitor specifically geared for Gaming. But is it a solid long-hour working productivity monitor?

Want a 32” smooth productivity monitor for developing on.

I’ve been looking for current suggestions with regard to more productivity-oriented displays. I’m wanting something I can use basically separate from my OLED display. And that can be more ideal for coding and asset creation; with more focus towards solo dev work for video games.

I myself arrived at this panel:
the Dell UltraSharp DELL-U3225QE.

It is 32”, 4K, 120hz, and regular display with IPS black. I was looking for a 4K panel that could also maintain at least 120hz for smoother menu operations. And this one seems to be in a rather isolated market, as most others only do 60hz, or are just gaming/OLED displays.

It is here as well that I’d also like to ask for some suggestions. As I’ve said, I already do have a 32” OLED. I’m just looking for an IPS or maybe even a MiniLED that might have some points worth looking at as opposed to just the Dell.

Are there any monitors in better value than the Dell UltraSharp U3225QE for mixed usage?

Been shopping around for a nice 32” monitor for development work in coding and asset creation and I’ve been directed to this panel quite often.

Don’t need it for gaming proper. But it seems like one of the only monitors of its type that can do 120hz. Which, in my opinion, seems like a very attractive feature to have for smooth operation with long viewing.

I’m really wanting it largely because it seems to provide the best general performance. I dislike being entirely pigeon-holed. But it’s also frustrating that I can only really find this one being a proper panel that is 32” flat, no curves, 120hz, and not OLED.

So I was hoping to see if there might be some options I’ve been overlooking.

Would you say it’s better to buy a monitor now, or do I wait for MiniLEDs to roll out?

Been looking for a 32-inch display I can dedicate for work. I’ve already got an OLED and an IPS doing 4K. I use the OLeD for games, and the IPS more like a secondary screen.

I’ve been eyeing the Dell u3225qe as a potential display. It’s got IPS Black and does 120hz at 4K. Which are both things that I want. But at around a price of $800, would it be better to see where MiniLEDs go with their price?

Gaming Monitor for productivity? What should I be aware of?

Found an MSI monitor for a good deal, going around $350 from one of my local stores.

I was looking for something that could do both 4K and 120hz at the least. I was eyeing up a bunch of monitors at first that could really only do 60hz, such as the ProArt, Ultrafines, or BenQ. But it seems that such a combination is a bit scant.

I know this is more a gaming focused monitor. But I have read some reviews claim it to be a solid middle ground. And I would like to hear if there is anything I should watch out for in terms of the manufacturers or the monitor itself.
