I feel bad that I’ve been posting so much, whenever the timer is up and I’m allowed to, but idk what else to do. The other fundraising subs have been extremely rude and aggressive to me, telling me to put my cat down even though she’s doing better now and is only 14; she is still eating and drinking, 10lbs, no signs of slowing down - she just has a chronic health condition. It’s extremely discouraging. People keep downvoting everything I say or post, attacking me for not having insurance on my 14 year old cat when I was a minor when I got her (and not in charge of her care monetarily), etc. anyway. Sorry for ranting. I just feel bad for flooding the sub but idk where else to go

——————————————————

Hello, I have a 14-year-old rescue cat with IBD that is currently in remission. Last year, she had the worst flare-up she's ever had. She was down to under 7 lbs, had hourly liquid bloody poop, constant vomiting, etc. I was very close to losing her. We managed to get her flare-up under control with hydrolyzed protein cat food, daily medications that she'll have to be on for the rest of her life, as well as a bunch of supplements and B-12 shots.

I am a full-time student in a healthcare field. I do have a job, but back-to-back emergencies have left me stretched thin. My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer, my partner of nearly 10 years and I separated (which decimated all of my financial plans), and on top of it, my childhood cat that I've had for over half of my life was sick. In January, I got my car inspected and it failed with a $5k bill. I couldn't get it fixed until February, but that totally wiped out my savings, on top of the $3-4k I've spent on my cat the past year or so, plus $150/month in food and medications. Normally, I can afford this, but from June-August, I don't have my grants and scholarships propping up my finances. It has left me in a very hard spot.

She is doing a lot better now - she weighs 10 lbs, is finally absorbing nutrients again, only poops 1-2 times a day (although there is still occasional blood), and overall is in remission. We had her yearly checkup the other day and they found a very inflamed lymph node in her neck, and the thickening in her intestines hasn't healed even though it's been over a year.

——————————————————

The current theory is that she has intestinal lymphoma. Due to her age, we won't be doing any extensive diagnostics. We're moving straight to senior bloodwork, a GI panel, and a fecal to make sure it's not an infection or parasites (she's on steroids, so she's immunosuppressed). From there, we'll move straight to chemo, chlorambucil. She is currently in remission from IBD and is overall healthy, despite her chronic conditions. She is happy and has zero issues with quality of life.

I just need some help to bridge the gap in my finances over the summer after I've been depleted by my car. I can't ask my mom for help due to her situation, and I have no one IRL who can help me. Once the semester starts, I'll be back on track due to my scholarships and grants, and will have no problem paying for her care as I have been. I just need to get through this rough patch for a few months and get these last tests done so my cat can continue to stay in remission.

As for the amount I’m asking for, there is $300 from the appt early June, $500-600 for the next appt next month for all of the testing (not counting an ultrasound or removal of the lymph node if we have to go in that direction), and then $100 to cover her next order of food and meds.

Thank you for your time.

Senior cat, need help with lifesaving treatment through temporary rough patch

Im sorry to post this again, I waited a few days so it wasn’t spam, but idk what else to do. The other fundraising subs have been extremely rude and aggressive to me, telling me to put my cat down even though she’s doing better now and is only 14; she is still eating and drinking, 10lbs, no signs of slowing down - she just has a chronic health condition akin to diabetes in level of being treatable, it’s like a severe allergy causing permanent inflammation. It’s extremely discouraging. People keep downvoting everything I say or post, attacking me for not having insurance on my 14 year old cat when I was a minor when I got her (and not in charge of her care monetarily), etc. anyway. Old man tried to start a fight with me at the grocery store, but he at least gendered me correctly

I was at the grocery store earlier and I bought a few things to make dinner and some snacks. I used one of the smaller carts. While I was shopping I noticed an older man quite a few times, always giving me weird looks. Now this could just be my own paranoia and main character syndrome (/hj), he could just have chronic RBF. I had on a hoodie from a music artist that I like that has a bunch of patches that a boomer would probably assume were satanic, so I figured it was my clothing that was annoying him and ignored him.

Once I was done shopping I went to get in line. Only 3 lanes were open and I noticed 2 of them were quite long with people having huge cart fulls. I noticed the first lane had people with just a few items so I got in line there. The older man was in a different lane but once I got in line he moved and was 1 person behind me. Whatever, I assumed he just noticed my line was shorter.

When it was my turn and my items were scanned the old man went “doesn’t that annoy you? The number on the screen?” Both me and the cashier were confused and she just did a polite “haha.” He was displeased with this response and went “how many items are on your screen?” She said “20.” He looked at me and said “that’s more than 15 items bud.”

I didn’t even notice it was a 15 items or less lane, but regardless I got multiples of some items so it was probably closer to 17. Either way, dude was being an asshole and trying to start an argument with me for having 5 more items; mind you, I already had my bags ready and checked out faster than he probably did, I just got a bunch of small things like 1 lemon, 1 garlic, 1 shallot, etc. I ignored him because I’m not about to argue with an old man at the grocery store, and my brain was still struggling to process what the problem even was because I didn’t realize it was a 15 item or less lane until I left the store and processed his comment. I use this lane every time I shop here, multiple times a week, and no one has ever said anything to me.

Guy didn’t like that I ignored him and as I was putting my bags in my cart to leave he goes “young men these days have no respect.” While I was annoyed at him trying to start shit, it was still nice being properly gendered by a boomer whose age group notoriously misgender people lol. I only pass about 1/2 the time and usually get viewed as a teenager, but I’ll take it.

I do notice that when I pass men tend to be more likely to be confrontational, or let doors slam in my face, or shoulder check me if I don’t move out of their way. Even when mildly uncomfortable I can’t help but feel some relief being treated without chivalry. I’m sure if I wasn’t passing today that guy never would have said anything. It was also the first time I had an older person call me “bud.” I would happily accept grumpy old men being rude and making snide comments daily if it meant I got to pass!

Senior IBD cat, need help with lifesaving treatment through temporary rough patch - New Paltz, NY

Hello, I have a 14-year-old cat with IBD that is currently in remission.

The current theory is that she has intestinal lymphoma. Lymphoma in cats is not the same as lymphoma in humans; they can still live a regular life with treatment. Again, chemo in cats isn't the same as in humans; there's minimal side effects and it's just a pill they take. She is currently in remission and is overall healthy, despite her chronic conditions.

Thank you for your time.

Senior IBD cat need help with lifesaving treatment through temporary rough patch

People keep downvoting everything I say or post, attacking me for not having insurance on my 14 year old cat when I was a minor when I got her (and not in charge of her care monetarily), etc. anyway. Senior IBD cat, need help with continued treatment through temporary rough patch

I posted this here a few days ago but I was flooded with hate and rude comments so I deleted it. The vet appt is coming soon and I haven’t raised much so I’m trying again. Please read my entire post before making assumptions. I have a job, I’m a full time student, and I have had minimal issues paying for my both of my cats treatments for 8 years. This is a temporary issue caused by extreme financial stress of multiple emergencies back to back, and the ending of my ten year long relationship and the following loss of merged finances.

The current theory is that she has intestinal lymphoma. Lymphoma in cats is not the same as lymphoma in humans; they can still live a regular life with treatment. Again, chemo in cats isn't the same as in humans; there's minimal side effects and it's just a pill they take. She is currently in remission and is overall healthy, despite her chronic conditions.

Thank you for your time.

Senior IBD cat, need help with continued treatment through temporary rough patch

Hello, I have a 14-year-old cat with IBD that is currently in remission.
