A rescued colony

A rescued colony

I’ve always had a soft spot for plants that have fallen out of their pots at the garden center that no one else would want. This was one of them. I rescued this colony months ago and boy has it grown!! I took several individual plants off of this when I got it and the way it’s filled in is amazing.

So do I just let it keep being the big beast it is??

My mother’s Pothos

Roughly 17 years ago my mom had purchased a couple little pothos plants to put in the dining room at thanksgiving. My mom passed unexpectedly in 2010, and the plants sat in the dining room for a year unwatered. I visited the house and noticed them and decided to try to revive them. Somehow they managed to live. I’ve had this plant with me for 16 years. I recently did a massive renovation. It was rolled up on a coir pole and had yards, and yards and yards of vine with no leaves. So I unrolled it and got to the base. Removed all the unattractive vines. propagated some single leaf/single mode cuttings to make a new basket for my office. Have 60 wet sticks in 2 prop boxes. A couple of large vines coiled up on soil starting to root. And the original plant looking better than ever. The genetic legacy of this specimen is safe.

Jade renovations

Today was a huge day in my jades history. My husband and i have had jades for years but i only recently understood the importance of substrate and pruning. The resulting plants were lanky and soft stemmed. i’ve been taking cuttings from the mother plant for a while and today finally executed a complete renovation on the plant. The first picture is a 14 inch terra-cotta pot with a homemade soil mix. These are the best stems from the pot. Many of which were growing horizontally but we’re gorgeous as soon as I got them upright. I’m also experimenting heavily with using bamboo steaks and zip ties to straighten out stems that were at 45 to 90° angles. The second picture is what’s left of the original plant. The stems are twisting and soft and have incredible movement. I call her Methusa. I’ll work on renovating that pot overtime as well. But for now. My new Jade Grove is complete and I’m very excited to see where this plant goes. Before photo included for reference. The last couple of photos of the other large jade that we had in the resulting two plants. several of these plants are now outside and growing beautifully over the summer.

Determined to save them 🥺

I bought a Pink Panther Starter plant on Etsy and it’s immediately died 🥺 I tried to take some cuttings but it was so small they were hard to keep in water or perlite. Then I realized that a 48 well micro plate was the perfect size for these tiny things!! It’s living under humidity dome and I have higher hopes for rescue

justice for Phil

Hi everyone! This is Phil. My red bristle philodendron. He was given to me by my sister-in-law before I started really getting into plants. I had no idea what I was doing with him. And at one point, I even pinned him into the soil because I didn’t know that he was a climber. Fast-forward a year and I realized what a great plant I have and I decide it’s time for Phil‘s redemption arc #JusticeForPhil.

I started training him on bamboo stakes, and I just finally got him onto a coir Pole. It took some doing to get the pole inside of his spiral, but I think it worked out nicely I have considered cutting him and propagating the top to get a more traditional looking plant, but honestly once I put the coir pole I can’t imagine him any other way. He’s now growing very happily and pushing leaves regularly. Also, I think I finally have the top in a configuration where he should be able to grow straight up from here. I’m excited to see his leaves change as they mature.

And if you look down on the bottom, right, you’ll see Phil Junior. He also was just sort of flopped on the soil and I finally got him on a little stake too.

Succulent garden

Hi everyone! So I’ve been working on a mixed succulent ball. It started out with just jade and Gollum Jade cuttings, but this weekend I made a couple of strategic purchases and I’ve added quite a bit to the bowl. I would love to get some feedback on where I am and what tweaks I should make? Not pictured is the Tokyo sun sedum that I purchased to put in the middle. I feel like if I had a top dressing it would make the plants stick out more but the first time I did that I used rocks and had the bowl outside and damn near fried the whole thing. Certainly don’t want to do that again. Any thoughts suggestions or ideas are welcome!

Golem jade cuttings struggling

Hey everyone after I gave my Golem Jade a haircut I had a lot of little cuttings, which I put in a big terra-cotta pot with a chunky soil mix. It’s been a few weeks now and they’re not looking so hot. The pieces are yellowing dropping leaves and overall just don’t look like they’re loving life. They’re getting good Sun and I’m watering once a week. What do you think is going on? Is it just transitional as they attempt to root? This is a very low stakes operation as the mother plant is happy and healthy but I would love to see this takeoff as well.

Gollem Jade haircut

So I got inspired and gave my Gollem the haircut of a lifetime. I think I shocked my husband, particularly when he saw the cuttings that I’ll eventually repot.

What do we think - glow-up or disaster?

New to the Beard

Hi all! Just joined. Typically have a shorter stubble but have been rockin the longer beard lately.

My beard is naturally very grey/white/washed out. Been experimenting with color and products to keep things soft and tidy.

What do we think? Keep growing?

Exceptional BG results in 2 weeks

Hi everyone! I’m just starting my Mounjaro journey. 45m 6’1 308 starting weight. I just took my 2nd dose on Saturday, so I’m very early. Was diagnosed with T2 diabetes, but have struggled with weight insulin resistance all my life. My A12 shot up to 10.4, and I’ve been regularly seeing BG’s 300-400. My mom was T1 so I’m well educated in the disease.

What’s insane is how quickly I’m seeing results. My fasting BG was 122 this morning, and I’ve lost over 8lbs. It’s the BG that I can’t get over!

I work out, lift weights, am active, travel for work, eat very low carb, drink socially and got to a point that nothing would get my BG below 250’s. Now all of a sudden fasting is below that all important 125 mark. I would LOVE some perspective or shared experiences here!!

DW-1000, part deux. A watch comes back to life

Now that my DW 1000 restoration is complete I wanted to share some additional photos. The new Bezel and band showed up today and I was absolutely blown away when I finally put the whole thing back together. It’s amazing how both modern and nostalgic this watch looks. You can see the ancestral bloodline from here to the G shock. And yet it’s still completely something unto itself.

I’m amazed for it’s age how good the case condition is. The brushing on the top and bottom lugs is pretty spectacular. You can absolutely still see scratches on the crystal, but I don’t believe it takes away from using the functions of the watch or it’s overall aesthetic.

I’m so happy to own this and look forward to wearing it for many years to come.

Another DW-1000 on her way into active duty 🫡

Well she’s off the blocks and the motor is running so I thought I would post an initial picture of my DW-1000 restoration.

I bought this off eBay as “for parts or repair” for $50 USD. I took a chance but so far have been rewarded. The 280 module sprang back to life with a new battery. Pushers work great and all the features of the watch are working smoothly.

Otherwise I have polished the crystal with some diamond paste. Still not perfect but I don’t want to push it. Also I lightly buffed the polished case sides with a gold polishing cloth to bring back the luster without trying to overdo it. The brushing on the top and bottom is in pretty excellent condition so I’m not touching it. I replaced the case back O-ring but don’t dare to try and pull out the pushers. I don’t plan on swimming with it any time soon…

I’ve ordered a stainless steel bezel, screws, and strap from devpanch_watches which I can’t wait to get. Right now it’s on a weird blue Barton silicone strap while we wait.

I discovered this watch quite a while ago and am thrilled to own one! One quirk I love is that when you set the watch, You can independently set the minute “10’s” and the “1’s” independently. Never seen that before!

At some point I’d love to get a bracelet for it but have only begun looking at alternatives. I’ll take any suggestions you have to offer! Will post more pics when it’s completely back together!
