The Ghosts of the Pennsylvania Railroad… Amtrak 30th St. Connecting from NJT to SEPTA

1st picture.. many people think that Raymond Lowey developed the GG1. He did not.. George Gibbs was the main person in that. Lowey improve the styling after 4800 was built… you can see 4800 at the Pennsylvania State railroad Museum in Strasburg PA. Lowey was also present during the inauguration of GG1 4935 Black Jack in Washington Union Station.. I witnessed it personally. 4935 is also at the Pennsylvania State Railroad Museum. 4935 was also the last GG1 I traveled behind. 2nd picture.
This is the sculpture taken from the former PRR Broad Street Station titled the spirit of transportation. Broad Street Station is where the suburban station is now. At one point, Amtrak Keystone services used to terminate their. 3rd Picture is the plaque about the sculpture, the spirit of transportation. The last picture you will see these bronze keystones in many places of 30th St., Station. You will definitely see this when you walk up the ramp from the main concourse to the SEPTA concourse.

Vacation by rail continues part 5

Made it to the next destination… 30th St., Station looks wonderful without the scaffolding. Also, I have a picture of the unrestored side that they left as is. There’s also a picture of the Amtrak cascades sitting at the yard.

Vacation by rail continues part 3

The GG1 is at the New York State Fairgrounds… as far as I know it’s the only GG1 that’s painted in Amtrak colors! Then I traveled on the finger Lakes railroad in the Hickory Creek observation car. That car is also fully Amtrak compliant.
