I built a free ios app that catches insider trades and SEC filings on stocks you follow. Get notified whenever BMNR updates its holdings weekly.
Hello fellow BMNR investors!
Sharing an iOS app I've been building for the past 6 months called Howl. It pings you the moment a company you follow files something new with the SEC.
I mostly made it for myself, I follow a handful of stocks and kept missing filings. It's completely free, no trial, no locked features, and no accounts required. I'm not trying to make money off it right now, I just want people actually using it so I can work out what to add next and where it's falling short.
Besides the filing alerts, it does a bunch of other stuff too:
- Insider trades: buys and sells straight off the Form 4s, with the price
- Congress trades: get notified when politicians and other famous investors update their holdings
- S&P 500 inclusions tracker: stay updated on companies that are joining and leaving the index
- Stock analysis: the bull and bear case for a stock, plus which big institutions are holding it (from the 13Fs)
- Earnings breakdown: a plain English recap after a company reports, so the numbers make sense
- Business breakdown: how a company actually makes its money, in normal words
- Fair-value estimate: a rough discounted-cash-flow value for the bigger names, with the model's assumptions laid out so you can change the growth rate and see what it does.
- Market news: filtered macro news that's moving the market.
- Econ calendar: CPI, PPI, earnings dates and results, company SEC filings, all in one place.
That's basically it. If you try it and something's missing, or there's a feature you wish it had, comment or dm me. That's the whole reason I'm posting. Thanks!

How do you guys get reviews for your apps?
Been installing and testing out many apps recently and I noticed there are many apps that asked for reviews during the onboarding flow, but that doesn’t really make sense to me as the user probably doesn’t know/experienced enough about the app to give proper reviews. However, prompting the reviews after X sessions of using the app isn’t really working for me (most users just cancel). Does adding the review prompt really help?
SMCI completes 75m convertible preferred stock offering
Is it time to call it quits?
Hi all, solo developer here. About 3 months ago i launched my app on the app store, and to date i only got 220 page views and about 65 downloads.
Over the 3 months i have constantly tried adding and removing features based on user feedback that i got, improving the UI etc. I tried optimizing ASO by trying different sets of keywords and appstore preview, but nothing seems to be working.
i tried launching my app on playstore but after going through the 2week test phase etc, playstore ultimately rejected by app as its finance related and i am not a registered business. so i thought to try to just work on ios and eventualy incorporate a business and launch on playstore if i can be profitable.
I tried running facebook and tiktok ads but my ad got taken down as its finance related. (My app summarizes stock news and tracks SEC filings of companies and famous investors/hedge funds so that users gets notifications whenever such news are available.) i also read that it would be hard to compete with other finance related apps in the ad space as they have way higher budget for keywords
Honestly feeling quite demoralised and kind of lost as i cant even get a 100 downloads after 3months.. while i read of people getting thousands of MRR after a week of launching.. Asking for honest opinion about my app, or any advice in general how i can have better results.. as im afraid even if i give up on this app and move on to developing another app i would hit the same wall. Would really appreciate any help!
