Is it possible to restrict certain Siri functions on HomePod mini?

Hi All,

I'm off to uni in September, and am quite a high tech person. This means my uni dorm will include HomePod minis, smart lights, custom routines etc.

One of my plans was to put one of my HomePod minis in the kitchen area. I feel like (assuming my neighbours are reasonable) this would be a great contribution for listening to music and being social together, as well as being very useful for googling cooking recipes and stuff.

However, I obviously don't want random people to be able to access my reminders, calendar, and be able to call my contacts. Can I disable these features whilst leaving core Siri functionality like setting timers?

Or Alternatively, is it possible to set this second HomePod mini on a different apple account such that we can still talk to it, but it had no data on the account to share?

Dual wielding

Was simply wondering how many people that own AirPods actually own and use multiple pairs?

Personally (18yr old student), i cycle 3 pairs:

  1. Airpod Max 1 USBC: daily driver, use whenever i will either have headphones on the entire time or can bring my case (not apple’s) as well.

  2. Airpod 4 ANC: usually rotate these with airpods max once they eventually give too much pressure/get too heavy. Also great for quick trips or “just in case” headphones

  3. Airpods Pro 1: got the static defect from back in the day (out of warranty), so i use them without ANC or transparency (prevents static) as headphones for spa/sauna (dont judge lol). Also my beside headphones in case of need.

Not spoilt! Stupid kid who spends too much of my money from my job on headphones lol (got all of them on discount asw!).

Have also bought my friend group (3) airpods 3 each bc i got a holiday pay bonus :)

Hello everyone,

Just something I've been thinking about recently and really wanted to get other opinions about. Long story short, I use an MBP M1 Pro (32/512), and when at home, have this plugged into both the wall and my monitor. My monitor is set up to be the main display, whilst the MacBook is on a stand to the side as monitor 2. My questions are as follows:

People who use a laptop + monitor, why do you choose this work around instead of dedicated desktop + Laptop? (for me it's everything being on 1 device)

People who use a laptop + desktop, how do you manage different devices having different things on?

I adore the concept of having a Mac mini (if they are ever in stock), with it's amazing cooling and power for all my home activities, and just having a MacBook for on the go, but I find 2 main issues.

  1. How on earth do you manage having work on one device, and then it not syncing to the cloud quick enough or something and having issues getting data between Mac mini and MacBook.

  2. What does having a dedicated Mac actually get you? Aside from potential gaming (don't forget this is macOS after all), what use cases does an M5 pro in a laptop not get you for example. Surely having 1 device with a higher spec (same cost) would be better? I also see many people with a MacBook Air and Mac mini instead, which I cannot understand (no cooling, 60Hz, LCD screen. Give me an air with 120Hz mini-LED and I'd be tempted)

AI is the only big exception I'm aware of. Local LLMs could very well do with a desktop.

hi Guys,

When searching a serial number, does the image on the apple website match the colour of the headphones? I love this detail from apple if true.

I've seen a lot of pairs where this does match, but some where this isn't the case (even though they are official headsets)
