Just got asked if I’m the doctor (I’m a 22yo F)

I’ve reached the ULTIMATE premed experience. Almost 2 years working in the hospital as a tech, constantly being mistaken as the nurse because I am a young woman. I just got asked if I was the doctor. I thought it was a joke but he was being so serious. That was glorious.

Secondaries is making me realize how type B I am.

I have a master doc of all the secondary responses I’ve answered. Not even organized by prompt or at all. Just a bunch of random paragraphs. Then, now that I’ve done a bunch already, I’ve just been cutting and pasting and shoving them together or slightly editing to answer these new prompts. I haven’t even been revising much. Maybe I was born for emergency med. I’ve even started triaging my secondaries. I get pissed when I have a question that my slop of words won’t answer.

The worst part of secondaries is the fact that most of the effort is going to result in no reward.

Some of these schools I know my chance is super slim. Here I am typing my soul away spending hours and hours per school just to know I’m probably not going to get an interview. It really messes with the motivation tbh. Sometimes I wonder why I didn’t just ONLY apply to my state schools where I’m most likely going to get an interview anyways out of all of these schools 😩

Edit: yall I applied to my state schools I’m not dumb 😩

Is it worth submitting NOORDA secondary

I have IIs from KYCOM and LECOM Brandenton. I don’t want to do the video submission so bad. Don’t really care to live in Utah. Should I just withdraw?? For reference I have a 508 and 3.78cgpa and might have overkilled my DO app some…

Having baby between 1st and 2nd year?

Hello all,

I’m applying this current cycle and am super super grateful to already have 2 IIs. With that being said, I’m hoping to be starting medical school next Fall. If everything works out with my husband’s job and me getting the HPSP scholarship & getting in we will be financially stable and are thinking of trying to have a baby ideally between 1st and 2nd year (but understand it’s not that simple to plan).

If anyone here who has had a baby in med school has any advice that would be great! I know support systems are essential.

Puppy blues: it gets so much better

Just wanted to throw a little bit of encouragement out there for those really struggling with puppy blues and regret. My boxer mix is about 11 months now. We got him when he was about 6 months and it was a DIFFICULT adjustment. It was so hard raising a dog that had an unknown past that seemed to be very traumatic. The crate training, the potty training, the sleepless nights, the reactivity and the change to our routine sucked so bad. Here we are 5 months later and I have a hard time understanding how I could love anything this much. We have cats and they’re my babies and I love them so much but it’s just a different type of indescribable love I have with my doggy. He has turned into the cuddliest loving dog and although he still has his puppy moments and training regressions and accidents, we just get each other so well now. I am so happy I pushed through the hard times. Trust when people say it takes time to get used to your puppy and vice versa. I can only imagine it gets better from here. Hang in there yall!!

Gap year ER tech, love it but can’t afford to live

I’m applying to med school rn. I have been an ER tech for about 3 months. I love it. I work full time. It has its downsides for sure but it’s a great gap year job. My only issue is - my husband is about to start LPN school and really won’t be able to work much. I only make $17/hr, and I live in a moderately high cost of living area. I’m feeling really torn. I’ve been looking for jobs with my degree (public health) but there’s honestly not much. I just don’t know how we’re going to survive off of my pay. My parents haven’t been supporting me much since I’ve graduated college, plus they’re paying for my med school apps which is no easy ask. It just sucks how little techs get paid. I’m really upset that I may actually have to leave this job.

Received II for LECOM Brandenton, what to expect? Going in person

I am going to go in person. Does anyone know what to expect/ what questions they’re going to ask? Was it chill? It looks like their post II acceptance is pretty low so I’m a little nervous.

How is everyone surviving during their gap year?

I decided to be an ED tech during my gap year, and while I really do love it, I’m regretting it a little because I cannot survive with how little I make. My parents have basically pulled out a lot of support because I’ve graduated college (thankfully they still pay for things like insurance, car, phone bill etc.) I make $17/hr and am living more than paycheck to paycheck. After taxes and deductions I’m making like $24k/yr. I have a decent amount of credit card debt that I’ve acquired by covering any bills and whatnot that I can’t afford. My husband is about to start nursing school and obviously won’t be able to work that much as a result. I’ve been applying to other jobs that are higher paying but with my degree (public health) there honestly isn’t much. I just feel like I’m drowning and I don’t know how I’m supposed to survive this year, because I’m only like 2 months in.

Why do people think I am personally responsible for the wait

Tech here. Was in triage the other day. We have to do Q1hr vitals on waiting room pts, so I was basically the punching bag the entire day of an overfilled waiting room. I know your abdominal pain hurts. I am genuinely so sorry and I wish I could help you. I can’t. Nor can I do anything about the wait. Yes, the blood pressure cuff hurts, you are hypertensive. Sure I can get you a blanket let me get through the next 15 sets of vitals I have to get first, and the 6 EKGs I need to fit in somehow, and send all the urines down. No I dont know how long it is going to be. Thats impossible to tell. Yes I know the wait is ridiculous. Oh you suddenly developed chest pain with a CC of knee pain? Ok let’s get an EKG and head back to the waiting room.

I hate triage and I hate Mondays. That’s all. Definitely cried a little after my shift.

Odd positivity/psychosis surrounding paralives

I know this has been discussed plenty before, but as someone who does enjoy paralives and accepts it for what it is as an early access game, I’m a little bit put off by the community. I’ve seen posts where people say they are crying tears of joy from the game or the game saved their life etc etc and I’m very impressed and I think the game has a ton of potential and I’ve already played a good bit but.. wow. I don’t think it’s THAT good to deserve that kind of praise lol. I just don’t really understand where it’s coming from or why? The game is pretty basic right now and it’s broken so I’m not sure why people are treating it like GOTY. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this because I am pretty weirded out by it.

ED Techs - how do you find time for stocking?

Relatively new EDT here. I’ve had a hard time managing all the non-clinical responsibilities on top of all the regular stuff. Usually, we are fully stocked at the beginning of the shift, so I try to restock at around 5pm, but it’s always insanely busy at this time. I also try to restock as I go, but again we don’t really need it until the afternoon when we are slammed. I feel useless whenever I’m stocking though, because we are so busy but I’d never have time to restock otherwise. I just don’t know what to prioritize and when. If I stock uninterrupted, I leave the nurses to burn in the fire alone and come back to a ton of work that’s compounded. If I stock, but interrupt to help with things, I’ll literally never get done stocking. Like I don’t know how to approach this.

Lowkey if my grammar is bad at least they know I didnt use AI

I think I don't have any typos or insane grammar mistakes, but if I do, at least they'll know it wasn't made by ChatGPT.

Will schools wait to fully review my application until they receive ALL of my letters of recommendation even if I’ve already met the minimum requirement?

Ok so, here’s my problem. I submitted NYIT’s secondary a few days ago and I got an email back saying my application was complete and under review. 3 of my letter writers have submitted theirs so I’ve technically met my letter minimum but I’m waiting for my MD letter still and it’s probably my best letter :(

I responded and was like hey so I’m still waiting on a couple letters just letting u know and they haven’t responded yet but should I just wait to submit my secondaries until I get all my letters or should I keep churning them out and just letting them know I’m waiting still and pls don’t fully review my app yet!!
