Coolest Car you've owned?

Ok, I'll start. The car that other guys think is the coolest;

I bought a Holden Commodore VL, NZ only GTS with an RB30 / 5 speed, extractors/huge exhaust, FE2 (Police suspension) in white. .

It still had the boot spoiler and front spoiler but as I bought it stolen / recovered at Turners it was missing the unique Momo steering wheel and wheels. I managed to get replacements that were similar. I did some rust repairs on it, my mechanic replaced the rear brake piping.

I'm into big cars and it was a gas guzzler (especially when heavy footed) so I sold it for a healthy profit ;-)

Is it really an Octagon or just a Circle?!

Looking at aerial views of the 'Octagon' it just looks like a circle. Are there 8 flat edges somewhere?

It could be NZs biggest roundabout.

How is this for a GREAT CAR?!

In 2003 when my wife was pregnant and out of our city I thought we should get a stationwagon. I found a silver '96 Libero wagon, 1500 manual (we still hate autos and have manuals) at Turners. It had 55k kms. I got it for $5500

My wife liked it. It had some minor electrical fault that I had sorted. I bought some mag wheels from Trademe for it, a Momo steering wheel and sporty gear knob. I had the tyres that were on it changed to the mags.

Years later a woman at Playcentre backed into it and damaged the door and sill a bit. We had those fixed but the co. didn't do a great job.

A guy did a U turn in front of me. I hit the picks but hit him as well. He knew a man...and had the front of the bonnet and guard fixed - again not well.

My wife reversed into a post at the mall and dented the front guard. I replaced that and repainted it.

Someone came on our property and broke it to it. I replaced the window. There were probably a few other things that happened to it.

I replaced the cam belt at about 100k kms. I replaced the water pump and cam belt at a bit over 200k kms. I would do the oil / filter about once a year (10k kms?). I got it down to about 15mins to do the job. The bush at the bottom of the gear stick wore away. I tried to get one but couldn't (nor anything generic) so I ended up wrapping tape around it.

The shock tops needed replacing (a known fault) so I had my mechanic do them.

Tyres - you guys will say this is unsafe etc but two of the tyres lasted most of the way to 200k kms (both had good tread but punctured and couldn't be repaired) and one of the tyres was still on it when I sold it with a new WOF.

It was a little down on power and I was going to be driving in the country more in the future.

I sold it after 15 1/2 years and the ks were at about 220k kms. I got $1550 for it.

Getting my new / used $35 Shoei helmet tomorrow

My wife is picking it up for me. I won it on a local auction.

Apparently its four years old but only used for two and a half. Good condition. No chips etc.

Clear visor - I wear sunnies.

White colour so nice n visable.

I'm hoping it fits.

Help! My 2104 MT-07 DASH has stopped displaying

I've not ridden it for months but I start it occasionally.

I started it and the dash was fine but it had the word LOW on it - I thought it may have been the battery.

I'm pretty sure I turned it off then on again and only the warning lights are showing now. It still starts fine. I charged the battery and on the advice of a Yamaha shop guy (thanks George at Cyclespot) I checked the fuses - they're fine.

It lives outside with a cover on it which has ripped. We haven't had much rain - but some so maybe something in the dash is damp?

Ideas on this please. Paul

Is this a decent Helmet?

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/motorbikes/helmets-clothing-footwear/helmets/listing/5992499207

I should replace the helmet I have from about 2002 - most of it's life has just been in the garage while I've not been riding.

HJC is a good brand but I wonder about this model. I know it'll be up to safety standards but otherwise?

I want a solid, bright colour for safety.

I don't want to spend much. I'm in New Zealand.

Is my gear too OLD?!

I'm into road riding only (apart from if there is some gravel to traverse).

I rode a lot until about 22 years ago when my wife had our first baby and I didn't have to commute so much and I wanted to stop club rides.

I got back into motorcycling about three years ago. I took my boots out of the wardrobe and the plastic at the front (ADV style) started to fall off in chunks so I thought I'd need to replace them - they looked terrible. Last year I bought some new ADV (max. protection) boots.

My wife got me some gloves for a gift. They're padded but pretty basic but comfortable and gauntlet style which I prefer. I should upgrade them to 'safer' ones.

Pants - I had some padded leather ones for years and they were ok but a friend got me some padded Kevlar ones from a car boot sale for $30 and gave them to me.

Helmet - I got back into using my old helmet that had sat in the garage for about the last 25 or so years. It fits me well, I've not dropped it (it has been dropped a couple of times since) etc. The main thing I like about it is that it's Bright Yellow!! Such a safe colour. There are very few that colour here and they're very expensive - $450 min and $1300 max. I asked a signwriter / decal maker about a wrap on another colour helmet and he quoted me much more than I wanted to pay. There is a nice yellow one on ebay for about $280 NZ but I don't know the brand.

Back protector - I've long used a full race style one with wide velcro kidney wrap which is supportive on long rides.

Jacket - my great Spidi one I paid $950 (top of the line then) in 97 or 98. It's still good apart from I had to re glue a shoulder pad back together. The only trouble is it leaks like a sieve but I can put a water proofer over it.

I'm thinking I should maybe start replacing stuff but I'm loathe to spend money and what I have works together well.

What do you think?
