Another Lynx 2 saved from itself

In classic Lynx fashion, this console's power circuit shorted out the Suzy chip. When I got my hands on it, a repair had already been attempted unsuccessfully which left Suzy and one of the transistors without a pad to solder to.

That's okay, though! I replaced the power circuit with brand new parts, a new Suzy chip got put in place, and I recapped the board as well. With all that, this Lynx is working beautifully again, marred only slightly by a bit of light leaking in the corner of the screen.

Saving every Game Gear in the Universe while surviving a heatwave #22 & 23

These both needed a lot of work! Let's skip the usual recap and thorough cleaning.

Both consoles have a stereo amp and speakers, a Bennvenn screen installed with the addition of an HDMI out port and rechargeable batteries with a clear USB C port for charging indication. The blue Gear also needed a new cartridge slot.

All the working power and audio boards have been repaired as well and stocked for future repairs.

Repairing every Game Gear doomed by Sega #22 & 23

12 AA batteries? In this economy?!

The internal pics are from the GG in the front. Due to liquid damage, one of the internal posts in the case rusted and passed along its poison to the circular ground plane. After removing all the rust and dirt, I soldered on a few bridges to ensure a good connection and then covered everything in UV solder mask.

[Game Gear] Repairing every GG on Earth #20 & 21

The internal pics are of the unit with the new screen.

I am using tantalum capacitors for the majority of the recap.

I am on a mission to fix every game gear in existence (#18)

This one is using the new laminated display by HiSpeedIdo. The install process is a pain but I think it's rather lovely. I included some pics to show quality and scanlines - brightness is at 10/15.

I made an Atari Lynx with a rechargeable battery pack!

Lots of space in that w i d e boy, so I added a 7.4v 3000mah battery pack that charges through the original power port. Battery life is approximately 10 hours.

The before pictures have a yellower light in general but I think it's clear this thing was sun-baked and mud-caked.

My process is nothing fancy. I let the case soak in warm water and soap for a bit and then give it a good brushing. It then sits for a few hours in a small plastic container with some cheap UV lights and aluminum foil and about a liter of 12% hydrogen peroxide (which may be reused!).
