In 2011 Bernie Ecclestone proposed artificial rain during F1 race

With the heatwave warning hitting Europe, I remeber this idea Bernie had to "spice up" the races.

Perhaps we can use it to cool down the drivers by creating sprinkler tunnels that the cars go through. Like some running events have.

Heres just a small snippet below from 2011.

In an interview last week, Ecclestone, the race series’ president and chief executive said that he wanted to install sprinkler systems on select tracks to enliven spectators’ experiences of the races. A wet track surface would encourage more overtaking maneuvers, he said.

“Overtaking is almost impossible because in the dry there is only one line good for maximum speed because of the rubber on the track,” he said. “We always had the most exciting races in the wet, so let’s think of making rain.”

The proposal was swiftly criticized by some of the some drivers, one namely Webber.

Comrades 2026

South Africans George Kusche and Gerda Steyn smashed course records to win the 99th edition (and 50th Up Run) of the Comrades Marathon on Sunday, 14 June 2026, running from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.

The Comrades Marathon is the world's oldest and largest ultramarathon, held annually in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province. Established in 1921 to honor fallen World War I soldiers, the grueling footrace spans approximately 87 to 90 kilometers (54 to 56 miles) between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, with a strict 12-hour completion limit.

Have previously seen people ask where food challenges are to be found in Cape Town. If you try this one, you'd better finish it, as R550 is pretty steep eh
