California declares May 17 Bruce Lee Day!

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the legislation on Tuesday, following efforts by Assemblymember Matt Haney.

The date commemorates Lee's return to San Francisco on May 17, 1959, at 18, after a childhood in Hong Kong.

His daughter, Shannon Lee, CEO of the Bruce Lee Foundation, called the honour a testament to his enduring legacy as a cultural bridge.

Assemblymember Haney, representing San Francisco, lauded Lee as "the epitome of the best of California," adding, "At a time when Asian Americans were too often absent from or stereotyped on screen, Bruce Lee helped generations see themselves represented with strength and dignity."

He becomes the first Chinese American in US history to have the rare distinction of a date named in his honour.

Black "fan" accuses Choi Woo Shik of racism! 🙄

So basically the dude was signing autographs at the Paris Fashion Week and a black fan missed out. Instead of moving on she decided to play the race card and accused him of only signing autographs for white fans.

Except footage from the event shows him signing autographs and chatting with other black people in the crowd.

The dude was forced to apologise.

It got me thinking though and I can't think of any other situation where a white or black celebrity was accused of selective autograph signing by race. The real racist appears to be the so-called "fan" who decided that only Asian celebrities should be judged by such a standard.

The 29th Anniversary of Hong Kong's return to China!

Today 29 years ago marks the end of British occupation in China after 156 years!

The white man exploited Hong Kong's labour primarily as a port city for exports pillaged from Mainland China. Tea, silk and procelain were prized goods for European aristocrats. The profits of which filled the pockets of white men rather than the poor Chinese farmers and labourers who made them.

In 1997, during the hand-over, Hong Kong was 10% richer than the United Kingdom. Today it is 40% richer.

Did you enjoy The Last Airbender 2?

The story borrows generously from Chinese history and culture.

1. The four bending styles are inspired by traditional Chinese martial arts. Waterbending comes from Tai Chi, Earthbending from Hung Ga, Firebending from Northern Shaolin, and Airbending from Baguazhang.

2. The great walled city of Ba Sing Se is directly inspired by the Forbidden City.

3. The Air Nomads are Tibetan monks.

4. The fire nation is also inspired by Imperial Japan.

It's great to see so much Asian content out of Hollywood lately. An example of our increasing soft power. I just hope we see more authentic representation too.

How many Chinese dissidents are scammers?

Guo Wengui has been sentenced to 30 years in jail in the US for running a billion dollar scam.

The Cantonese property tycoon fled China to the US in 2017, where he reinvented himself as a Communist Party critic and built a loyal following among Chinese Americans, whose only knowledge of China extends to the Rush Hour movie franchise starring black comedian Chris Tucker.

New York court judge Analisa Torres said Guo had "preyed on those seeking to bring democracy to China", taking their money to fund his lavish lifestyle.

Guo - who goes by several names, including Miles Guo and Ho Wan Kwok - was sentenced in a courtroom packed with his banana supporters who couldn't even pronounce his name.

Before fleeing China, Guo built a fortune as a property developer and had good ties with the country's government.

But he sought asylum in the US after being accused by top Chinese officials of corruption.

China issued an Interpol Red Notice for his arrest but this was ignored by US authorities who called him a defender of democracy and a critic of the CPC.

Guo cultivated a wide following among the Chinese community in the US who have been secretly jealous of China's rise over the last 80 years.

Prosecutors said Guo raised more than $1 billion from his Chinese American followers, who joined him in investment and cryptocurrency schemes between 2018 and 2023.

The money he raised was used to fund Guo's lavish lifestyle which included a 50,000 square foot mansion, a $1m Lamborghini and a $37m yacht.

Are you happy with the new law?

The new law is a year old now but it's a huge win for young men in China who sometimes find ourselves blind-sided by women whose sole purpose for the marriage is half the house and contents. It's enough for the woman to live comfortably for the rest of her life without having to work.

This was especially common in major cities where pressure for men to marry can force them to marry just about anyone.

The new law will likely see marriage and divorce rates fall and could even help the birth rate recover.

Was Korea right to blame the coach?

South Korea coach Hong Myung-bo resigned Sunday (June 28) after the team's quick elimination from the World Cup drew a harsh condemnation from the country's president, who called the coach "incapable" and ordered a complete review of the national team programme.

South Korea won its opening match against Czech Republic, then lost its next two Group A matches to South Africa and Mexico.

South Korea hoped it would qualify for the next round as one of the third-place teams to advance in this year's expanded tournament. That ended when Congo defeated Uzbekistan 3-1 on Saturday.

Hong was in his second stint with the national team. He was the coach at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil when South Korea also failed to advance past the group stage.

...

You can learn a lot about a leader by watching how they handle defeat or failure. Do they single out one particular person or do they focus on the future and thank everyone for their best efforts? The president's behaviour was unbecoming of a leader. There are only two countries from Asia at the world cup. His example is disgraceful. The coach has a family and friends. Sure, he made some bad calls, but the players and assistant coaches bear some responsibility too. When the team wins, the coach rarely gets acknowledged publicly. So why do we blame them when the team loses?

When is enough enough?

A US citizen has been sent to jail for the sexual abuse of at least 20 under-age boys in Phnom Penh.

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court announced the verdict on June 25 against William Chandler White, 27, an American citizen employed at a private English school in Phnom Penh.

White – originally from Jackonsville, Florida – was sentenced to 10 years in prison and banned from Cambodia upon completion of his sentence.

Chanrith admitted that he brought 20 street boys to White for sex in Phnom Penh, receiving $30 for each child. White stated that he arrived in Cambodia as a tourist in 2024 before securing employment at the private school. He admitted paying each boy about $100 for sex, selecting them from photos Chanrith posted on Telegram.

Yale caves offers plea deal to Trump over affirmative action!

Asian American families can now have confidence that race will not influence the outcome of their college applications as the founding fathers intended. May we look back at this institutional racism with disgust and tell our grandchildren that once upon a time, simply being Asian was enough to miss out on an ivy-league education. Shame.

Are you worried about the purges?

The standing committee of the National People’s Congress announced in a late-night address that 14 members have been removed. It represents the single largest purge in over 50 years. They include former Xinjiang Communist Party chief Ma Xingrui and General Xu Xueqiang the commander-in-chief of China's space programme. Political commissar of the PLA General Li Fengbiao and of the airforce General Guo Puxiao were also among those purged.

The so-called anti-corruption campaign has reduced the seven-man supreme military command appointed in 2022 to a committee of just Xi Jinping and Zhang Shengmin.

Critics say the purge has left the central military commission with no combat experience. But others say it's by design and that Xi Jinping is worried about potential challengers when his term comes up for renewal at the party congress next year.

“The armed forces wield the gun. There must never be room in the military for those half-hearted towards the party.”

Xi Jinping.

Are Chinese cops more professional?

This young officer shows us how to de-escalate a situation while staying calm and professional.

In comparison, American cops are known to overreact and make situations worse. This leads to physical altercations and sometimes even death.

Are Chinese officers better trained? Is it an education problem? Are Americans just more violent in general and therefore prone to lashing out?

The woman in this video is a text book stereotype for this region of China so boys, be warned lmao.

Are you tired of influencers?

In this now viral clip, a deaf influencer with enough plastic on her face to power a small engine, is seen in Paris pushing her way to the front of the queue to take pictures at the Opera House. When confronted by angry on-lookers, she reveals a Chinese flag and shrugs them off. I suspect the whole thing was a publicity stunt to make her famous.

Will all 12 Zodiac Statues ever be returned?

As most of you will know, French and British soldiers looted the Summer Palace in Beijing during the Second Opium Wars. One of the most controversial treasures was the heads of all twelve zodiacs.

The tiger, monkey, and ox were discovered at a private auction in Hong Kong nearly thirty years ago. The pig and horse were recovered in New York by Hong Kong casino magnate Stanley Ho.

The rat and rabbit were returned for free after the government won a private auction bid for £30 million Euros and refused to pay.

The dragon was apparently sold in a private auction to an unknown Chinese buyer for €3 million Euros and believed to be in Taiwan but these reports have not been verified.

The snake, goat, rooster, and dog are still at large. Believed to be in the private collections of European aristocrats.

Some say when all 12 statues are reunited, China will become the undisputed superpower.

Are you interested in religion?

Dajia Hao,

We all know that religion was outlawed by the communist party even with Mao's public support for the Taiping Rebellion or failed Christian uprising against the Qing Dynasty.

But more recently, the government is relaxing its approach. The once normal attacks on churches and mosques under Hu Jintao are being replaced by diplomatic charm offensives with the Pope and Islamic scholars. Buddhist and Taoist leaders have also been getting cosy with high-level party officials.

You might be wondering where is Taoism?

Most Taoists label themselves as either Buddhist or Atheist.

Are you excited for Ma Ning?

China may have failed to qualify for the FIFA World Cup but one of our referees is already on the field.

Ma Ning, 46, has sparked viral memes and attracted sponsorships from major Chinese brands, including tech company Lenovo and electronics giant Hisense.

China has failed to qualify for the World Cup since its first appearance at the tournament in 2002, when it was eliminated in the group stage without scoring a single point.

However, Japan and Korea are there representing Asia so be sure to cheer them on!

Are Chinese universities entering a golden era?

Japanese prime minister Sanae Takaichi is facing backlash after it was reported that her grandson has enrolled at a top Chinese university.

Ms Takaichi, who has taken a strong pro-Taiwan stance since her election to office, reportedly learned about her grandson's enrolment on the eve of his departure for China.

The prime minister was quite displeased upon learning the developments, but could not interfere with the decision.

Netizens were quick to make fun of the prime minister. "But why would she send him there in the first place? Should have sent him to Taiwan," read a comment on X.

Are we safe in Europe?

In this video, a Taiwanese (assuming by his accent) international student chases down a dangerous phone-smuggling ring and hands them over to local police.

But it begs the question, where are the police and why are we doing their jobs for them?

Tourists help pay for your policing, education, healthcare, retirement, etc. We deserve to feel safe. These third-world conditions make it hard for us to visit again.
