Engine troubles after sitting

Hello everyone. I have a 2008 suburban with a 5.3. it has been back in the weeds for a couple years due to transmission failure (only 2000 miles on transmission rebuild, owner died). I didn't have the time to mess with it so I just went and bought a newer one.

Now I'm wanting to fix it to have a backup and when I started it up after being off for a couple years it now has a nasty knock. It sounds like the top of the engine. It sounds like valves are hitting the piston if I were to guess.

What would cause it to just start having troubles after sitting? It ran smooth as can be before.

Could this be afm system? If so, what would be the diagnostic to confirm?

I'll spend the money on the transmission but no way will I spent it on transmission and motor. If this thing didn't have a perfect leather interior and near perfect exterior I wouldn't even bother.

5 kid troubles

Hello everyone! Currently at gwl in Bloomington mn. They merchandise you to death but that's not the topic here.

I am currently here with two kids. Were wanting to come back with all 5 of ours. The promo that's on the website gives generous discounts and there's a lot of rooms for 89 a night. When putting in 4 of my kids it goes to 169 a night. When I put in the 5th kid, it goes to 589. Can I just put in for two rooms at the discounted rate and get them with connected doors?

I couldn't find an entry for this in the reservation platform. Two rooms for 89 is doable but 589 a night is way out of my ability to pay right now.

Knock sound 2008 5.3

2010 f250 6.4

The mechanic at Ford who was all of 22 years ago lifetime expert listened to this engine crank and told me I need a new turbo. I just can't imagine how this could possibly be the turbo with the squeak happening during crank.

Driving home towing camper on vacation it started having a knock when I let off gas. Then a thus noise. Then clouds of black smoke. Then clouds of white smoke. Then it died. It now cranks with a lot of resistance. If I put a jump pack on it I can get it to start after it sits for a day and it runs horribly for a minute until it quits again.

It's also running oil onto the ground. Haven't looked into the source

This sounds like a bearing seized or dropped rod to me. If it's just the turbo, I would consider just fixing it as it's rigged for my work.

Does this kid know something I don't?

Using prereqs in school

Hey there everyone,

I'm a career changer. I have a bachelor in psych. I'm taking prereqs for nursing school.

My question is how much of the info from the core science classes such as A&P, chemistry, microbiology; will be needed when jumping into nursing school? Should all of this info be readily memorized? Or are these classes more so just foundational and what you need to know progressing through nursing school you'll be taught in those classes?

Taking 8 prereqs in two semesters is overwhelming and I don't feel like I'm getting very good retention.

Valley Fair - how to save money

Hello everyone! Were from northernish mn. We're doing a trip to tc this week. This trip includes valley fair.

We're a family with 5 kids. I'm in school full time and also the only breadwinner of the family.

I'm trying to save a little money wherever I can. It's a little tight. We were planning to go during the week to save money and have shorter lines but the looking I've done has shown something different. It looks like the discount tickets are only during the busy weekends. It looks like tickets are $40 for Friday Saturday Sunday or $64 for any day of the week.

This just doesn't make any sense to me. Usually weekday is cheaper if anything.

Do i have this right? Am I missing something?

Does anyone know of places to get discount tickets? Or can anyone clarify if I'm misunderstanding?

Any tops or tricks would be very appreciated.

Stand and dummy plugs

I know everyone screams to buy oem or nothing. My local Ford wants 392 for the stand pipes and dummy plugs. I think that's pretty absurd.

What else is everyone else using? 90% of all of the diesel shop parts I'm seeing look identical down to the finest detail to the $100 China kits.

Also, anyone have a lead or decent quality front end suspension kits? Those trq kits are process awesome but man that makes me nervous that my wheels will break off down the road.

2010 f250 6.4 for the front end

2006 f550 for the plugs

Nursing versus PA

Hello everyone. I'm a recent grad (non traditional) with a non nursing bachelor. I'm trying to figure out what my next step is.

I randomly started looking up pa school.

In the few hours I've been looking at this i have seen some things that don't make a lot of sense and I'm hoping others can clarify. It seems that a PA gets paid more, with more privileges, less prereqs for admission, and less time in evil. Most all of the PA programs I have looked at are only two years.

My end goal is to be a pmhnp. I have look into demsn then working a year or two then certificate into pmhnp. Last time I discussed this I had about 40 angry nurses saying don't dare to demsn and that it's cheating. But I already have a bachelor's in psych.

So if I do absn for roughly 2 years, work two years, msn for two years, work for a year, pmhnp certificate for another year. Does this sound like a practical timeline? Or do I have something wrong in here?

Or you can go to pa school for two years then work under a psychiatrist after certification and get paid more in less time with less prereqs?

Please correct anything I have wrong here. Trying to figure out where to take things.

Forscan licenses

I was just looking to buy a obdlink to run forscan. I have disastrously outgrown torquepro and the constant issues I had with connecting. When I look at the reviews for the adapters they are full of people with complaints saying forscan cannot be accessed anymore, Downloads disabled, license disabled, and other similar statements. Any idea what's going on with this?
