I haven't played VGC seriously or at all since late 2020, so it had been roughly 6 years but this game really did strike the right cord to get me back into it again. There were complaints about the meta but honestly I have found it relatively enjoyable, but I always have liked restricted metas in the past. My main gripe with the game was how incredibly hard it was to climb the ladder, and I don't mean just from losing over and over; I mean how much elo you gain and lose per win and loss.

A win is roughly anywhere from 12-17 elo from what I can tell and a loss for me was usually minus 15-19. It is basically impossible to climb if you are doing a win loss ping pong and if anything during that ping pong you are probably losing elo on the day. I swear there were times I would win 5 in a row and then lose 3 and be under where I even started and it made the whole thing feel less rewarding. It's especially bad during the sessions where you're getting dire claw slept and rock slide flinched to oblivion. Those losses are so hard to regain elo from bc you basically need to win 2 just to get back to near even. I don't know if they're going to update this system in the future but I hope they do adjust it some.

All in all this was a fun grind and now I can finally try the real funky teams I have been wanting to try. Team Breakdown below and pokepaste here but now I'm getting a beer lmao. Also add me in game if you want!

TEAM BREAKDOWN: (J4UUSSGPG9)

  • Mega Greninja: I personally think this is the best Blizzard spammer in the game and tbh since going Mega resets your typing and gives another protean proc its kinda like old protean again if you play it right. When it is Ice type it gets the defense buff from snow and behind veil can suprisingly live alot. While a water/dark type you also take hits from kingambit and Basculegion pretty well and while Basc can resist the Blizzard you can hit it with dark pulse if you need to. Shuriken is just nice to pick up those stray KOS here and there but I also played around with upper hand and that wasn't bad feel free to play around with that slot.
  • Ninetales: With Mega Frosslass off the table Ninetales is the best option and tbh this mon took some work but I think this is where its good for this team. Freeze-Dry is so important over anything like icy wind or moonblast specifically for the rain and basulegion matchups. Otherwise spam blizzard and click veil, pretty self explanatory. I also really like its speed tier in the meta rn with being faster than every single dragon on the board.
  • Garchomp: I landed on scarf chomp to help with Sneasler and Mega Zard mainly but it proved to be pretty nice against Aero and Tflame leads as well. If tera was in the game I would just be clicking tera rock and rock slide over and over bc I rarely clicked anything else it felt like. I went adamant chomp to help dclaw pick up the kill on other chomps and to help rock slide kill aero after a fake out. I haven't noticed me missing the speed Jolly would've given either.
  • Sneasler: I am running a bulky Sneasler that lives base Aero dual wing beat and just alot its a good spread that you'll just have to play with to learn all the calcs. I did slot in Rock tomb for further help against Zard Y because it was still giving me issues, particularly the Whimsicott Zard Y combo which sneasler can take care of. It also allows Scizor to keep pressure up since this sneasler is faster than the Modest Zard Ys running around.
  • Incineroar: Basic boring incin here nothing special... Rawr
  • Mega Scizor: This was the hidden MVP of the team. Mega Sczior matches up so well into most of the meta rn from all the fairies, to sand or hail teams, to Farigiraf and Oranguru. It is so naturally bulky and with intimidate support can get off 1 maybe even 2 Swords Dances a game and then Bullet Punch Ohkos almost everything. Opponents have to focus down this slot or it gets out of hand and with well timed protects you can really take over the game.
  • Tough Matchups: There honestly is not a ton of matchups that are unwinnable with this team but there definitely are tricky ones. Anything with Corviknight is bad you can either use sneasler to cc it and get a quick 50 off or try to rely on your Blizzard spam to handle it. Incin can handle it and get some chip but mirror armor is always going to put you at -1. Excadrill can be tricky but I usually only have trouble with it if its paired with corv since they take the same resources to take care of. Surprisingly Mega Gard was an issue, particularly with trick room, you just have to make sure to keep Mega Scizor alive. Mega froslass teams with basc also had me rolling my eyes at times but are prob a 50-50 matchup.
