How good are Mealworms for Gargs?

Obvious disclaimer out of the way, I don't plan on using mealworms as a staple as I know they are fatty. But I want to start using Mealworms(And Dubias) as a treat to desensitize him to my hand and have him associate my hand as good. I'm part of the Crested Gecko community and a big thing i heard was "avoid mealworms as they have too much chitin for their stomachs to process" and I'm wondering if the same applies to Gargs?

Which one should I get as a pet?

I'm still in my research phase and I am still weighing my options, but I found these two as sort of sleeper beginner picks. I'm still not going to get it at least until a year or two has passed. But which one is the better pick, Zebra Skinks, Painted Agamas, or some other sleeper beginner options?

Can Zebra Skinks be kept alone?

For those who own Zebra Skinks, I am considering getting one and while researching them, I noticed people keep them in groups, and I'm wondering, do they HAVE to be kept in groups or can one thrive in an enclosure?

Mushu's first shed under my care

When I was spritzing his cage, I noticed his colors were faded and not in the fired down way, so that means one thing, Mushu shed last night! I let him be and handled him 2 or so hours later, progress is slow, but he is still scared of my hand, but is great once out.

Got me some Snake Discovery CGD

I have been a fan of theirs for years and the minute I found out they made their own CGD, I just HAD to snatch on off Chewy while I still can

2nd handling session went well

2nd handling session just happened, the issue is getting him out of the cage, but once he's out, he's pretty good, just the right amount of jumpy, doesn't really bolt. And oddly a bit tricky to put him back once its time to put him back....

Made first contact with him

Admittedly, it didn't go the way i wanted initially, but hey, i managed to gently scoop Mushu up and he moved around on my hands and arms for like 5 minutes before I let them crawl back into his cage...

Did my first Deep clean on Mushu's cage,

They weren't too thrilled on being woken up(I didn't take them out, they were already sleeping in the corner anyway so I figured if would just let them be and predictably they hid in the foliage), but i manage to put the cork pieces in bought in and finally gave them some sturdier horizontal climbing places.

Neeko was walking in the opposite direction, but when he saw me, he turned around and started climbing on the glass, waiting for me to open it....

Progress on Mushu

Ok the Acclimatization weeks are over and I am currently going through the bonding process. She/He is scared of my hand still and won't climb on, but tonight, I was able to get him/her today eat CGD off my finger, so hey that's something. For however long it takes, I am aiming to get mushu desensitized to my hand and get him/her to come onto my hand willingly. I'm avoiding grabbing him/her because I don't wanna traumatize him in any way.... any advice would be greatly appreciated

As a New Cal gecko keeper, i often hear the notion of "not putting your gecko in too big an enclosure." I'm considering getting a Leopard Gecko, and I'm wondering if you can have a baby/juvenile start out in a adult cage, or does that notion apply?

It's been a little over a week and I have seen that mushu has gone from sleeping on the ground to sleep in a tent of foliage. And yesterday I saw that he ate his CGD. So far, I have done the "Put my hand in the enclosure for a few minutes" trick and he doesn't exactly panic when he sees me coming nor when I put my hand in the enclosure. Should I start going through the process of handling him now or wait another week before trying again?

Tomorrow will be a week since I got my Garg Mushu, and the decor i order a few days ago just came in, would it erase any potential progress he made in order to get comfortable if I added the cork pieces now?

He is so stinkin' cute and outgoing. I was literally less than a foot away and he came right up to the glass without fear or hesitation(hence the first two photos being blurry). I still intend on giving him time to adjust to his environment and what not, but damn it's taking every fiber of my being to not take him out and handle him

I have my baby Garg, Mushu in a 12x18 right now and I wanna give him/Her UVB. Most tube lighting(which i know are the superior UVB bulbs) fixtures tend to be a bit too long for the cage. So is this bulb worth it? if not, can I just use a Zoo-Med Nano UVB bulb for the time being? I have the fixture for it and used a Nano for my Crestie when he was a baby to relatively good success.

I bought him/her today from Reef-A-Palooza of all places. I saw how outgoing he/she was and fell in love with him. He/she is a red spotted reticulated morph and was born in July 31, 2025
