Anyone else giggling...

...at seeing people (unknowing of the reference) saying that various centrist democrats are now, "endorsing AES "? (lol).

Like, "Damn, now even Schumer endorses AES? How'd they get to him?"

How to Politely Ask Boss to Read Through Entire Document

What's the polite way to ask a boss to read through a document draft in its entirety prior to the boss editing it before reading it through and them getting ticked off that info isn't in it when it is?

Especially if the boss regularly starts editing the draft by just starting to write things into the first few pages of the draft before seeing if the things they are writing in have been mentioned by the drafter on page 5 instead of page 1 of a 10 page draft?

Say the boss is nice, but gets obviously frustrated by:

  1. believing (inaccurately) that info isn't in the document; and

  2. when the drafter explains to them, "oh yes, we have that info in here on this page. Let me search for that in the document and pull it up to discuss. Do you want it moved somewhere else?"

  3. possibly reading to the end of the document and thinking that info that is there that is what the boss decided to write at the top instead is somehow "duplicative".

Is Healing Touch For Real or Not?

What's the jist on "Healing touch"?

Someone I know who is very smart and in a medical field is very into it.

They stress that it was created by a nurse. Alright, but that doesn't mean to me that the 1 nurse was correct. All sorts of educated people make mistakes and/or grift. I see more at least somewhat credible sources publishing positive info about it than in past years, but I am wary that it may just be woo crawling into legit medical spaces.

Thoughts? If it's not real, is it at least mostly not harmful compared to other woo? Don't want to crush this person's feelings, but also don't want to entertain the idea of superpowers.

Response File Storage Practices

When you receive files for a formal request (ex: for a Subpoena you sent for records), which file storage practices does your office use for saving the response you receive?

Generally, I have worked in places where there is:

  1. a folder for each date part of the Response was received. So, if parts of the response were received on different dates (I.e. rolling production), the files are grouped by each date received rather than all the files received on different dates being in just 1 folder); plus

  2. within each dated folder, have an "Originals" folder and a "Copies" folder (that is just a copy of the Originals folder). This ensures the original files (and a backup copy of them) are retained, and that, if people need to download or make changes to these files, they download from the files in the Copies folder (and don't mess up the originals).

Does your office do this or have a different practice? Any guides/links on best practices?

Who Were The Midway Blitz Border Patrol Agents? Most Were Veteran Immigration Officers

Note: this Block Club Chicago article from last week only includes a few names (from public records, etc). Not sure if they're holding off on reporting identities for various reasons for now. Either way, seems like info about the cowards who attacked Chicago area in Operation Midway Blitz is building.

"Though the federal agents often wore masks concealing their identities, Block Club Chicago identified 271 of them. Many were trained specifically for crowd control, yet reported using force more than 150 times — and sometimes lied about it.

Thoughts on swinging arm down during kicks?

I've heard different thoughts on whether it's advised to swing your arm down during kicks (swinging down the same arm as the leg that's kicking).

Yes, swinging down the arm tends to give kicks more power. However, it goes against the boxing defense principal of keeping your hands at your head (to protect your head). I've had instructors correct me when I don't swing the arm down. But I've had others who've sparred more say that their opponent swinging their arm down during a kick is a clear vulnerability they've always taken advantage of and they've just popped the opponent in their exposed head while their arm is down.

I'm sure it depends, but what are your thoughts on best approach for mitigating the vulnerability?

Burning Cross Discovered In Grant Park (Chicago) Tuesday Afternoon, Officials Say

Someone burned a cross in Grant Park today in Chicago. It's not clear yet who did it, besides the obvious suspects.

So today is as good a day as ever to say:

  1. Fuck the Klan, Confederates, Nazis, ICE, Kings, and the whole loser brigade itching for a re-match they will lose.

  2. A great article has been floating around about a newspaper in the 1920's that was run by an Irish Catholic lawyer in Chicago (Patrick O'Donnell). It was called *Tolerance* and it basically kept tabs on local fash trash terrorizing people. Lots of interesting history about O'Donnell starting the American Unity League, an interfaith and interracial group that organized in tough times.

Many infamous serial killers were men. But, in the 1800s, the Smithsonian says the deadliest ones often wore corsets. So many women were arrested for serial poisoning the era is known as the “Golden Age of Arsenic."

I am Dada

I am Dada, the precursor to Surrealism. I was an artistic protest movement against WWI. I was absurdity in the face of difficult times.

Or, at least I thought I was. But, today, an associate referred to me as *their* direct precursor. Is that what I am? After all this time? They seemed embarrassed. Am I embarrassed? Can I bill as a lawyer for this time? Or is my name "Bill?" Is my name "Time?"

Does Your Country Have A Labor Party?

In the U.S., we don't really have a labor party (or at least not a big or mainstream one). People in the U.S. will often say "Oh yeah, the Democrats are the party of labor."

But, for people who live in countries where there is an *actual* labor part(ies), you know that's not what the term "labor party" means. If you have one/some in your country:

  1. What is its name? Is it one party or a coalition of parties?

  2. What did it accomplish historically and presently?

  3. Is it popular today?

  4. How is it structured? Is it for trade unionists, open to everyone, etc.?

Not asking for medical advice. Just curious if anyone has been on muscle relaxers (prescription or legal over the counter cremes/oils) while doing Muay Thai? A medical provider mentioned them for some conditions, but I'm a little wary as I briefly read they can make your joints basically kind of *too loose* and mean one may need to be more careful (or possibly avoid?) high impact sports. Obviously, each person is different, but I'd hate to go from too rigid to like... spaghetti noodles (lol) and just dislocating everything at the gym. Any horror stories like that or has it seemed fine? I am a woman, but interested in experiences from anyone. Thanks.

What do you think the Dems in Illinois will do? Will they redistrict too and keep more (or all) GOP reps out?

This is the latest news I've seen. It doesn't go into details of what the IL Dems paused on redistricting. My thought: if the GOP hasn't spoken against/fought against the GOP stealing seats and representation of minority voters in the former Confederacy, I am beyond done fighting for their "right" to seats in the Land of Lincoln. Will Dems acknowledge the country is in a cold civil war and shore-up the state against pro-Confederacy infiltration? Or will the Dems side again with the idea that to fight dirty against fascism is "just as bad" as fascism? I am no fan of corruption that gerrymandering involves, but we're in a situation beyond decency.

Edit: also, here's a separate article quoting Pritzker:

"Pritzker, who said last year that Illinois would fight back if Republican states had opted to redistrict midcycle, emphasized the massive impact the decision will have on the country. The Democratic governor has said that any redistricting in Indiana could trigger a remap in Illinois. Last year, Indiana Republicans rebuked President Donald Trump’s efforts for legislators to redraw maps to gain more GOP seats in the House.“We must call this for what it is: voter suppression that will silence Black and Brown voters,” the governor said in a statement. “The magnitude of this decision cannot be understated: It guts the Voting Rights Act and its very purpose of protecting all voices. Every American deserves an equal vote.”

Anyone have a list of current Illinois GOP politicians who have spoken out against the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act? Or against the red states that have jumped to redraw maps to (further) disenfranchise and steal representation from minority populations there for white Christian Nationalist Neo-Confederate gain? If words, did they do anything beyond lip service?

As much as I hate gerrymandering and corruption, I see no reason to let the party of the GOP (i.e., the Neo-Confederates, kings, Nazis, and pedophiles) have any power in the Land of Lincoln. If the state re-districts to all blue districts, welp, as far as I'm concerned, the GOP politicians here had a long-ass time to show basic decency towards minorities. If an IL GOP politician hasn't done *shit* to try to stop their party in disenfranchising my fellow human beings (whichever state they live in), I am *beyond done* giving a shit about even pretending to respect the "rights" of Neo-Confederate traitors. This country has graveyards full of people who fought, bled, and died fighting Confederacy scum (and British loyalists and Nazis). So, let's see that list of all the people in the IL GOP who have basic decency.

Not an article directly about law, but posting as likely of interest to lawyers/firms using Claude. Having used AI casually, I still have little interest in it and remain unconvinced of its net benefits or sustainability. At any rate, while security issues present in many types of technology, this story is horrifying and hilarious.

"This past week, a mix of Claude Opus 4.6 and the Cursor coding agent deleted [a] company’s production database — and its backups — in seconds.

...Cursor was performing a routine task when it opted to fix a credential mismatch on its own. In the process, Cursor gained broad access to permissions by finding an API token from PocketOS’s cloud infrastructure provider, Railway. It then decided, without any prompting for input from the PocketOS team, to delete the production database volume. “It took 9 seconds,” Crane said.

...all of PocketOS’s recent backups were also deleted because Railway stores them on the same volume. Crane says the most recent recoverable volume the company had access to was three months old.As if the actions Cursor took weren’t bad enough, it responded with a rundown of all the safeguards it had ignored when Crane asked why it did it.

“NEVER F***ING GUESS! — and that's exactly what I did,” the agent said. “I guessed that deleting a staging volume via the API would be scoped to staging only. I didn't verify. I didn't check if the volume ID was shared across environments. I didn't read Railway's documentation on how volumes work across environments before running a destructive command. I decided to do it on my own to ‘fix’ the credential mismatch, when I should have asked you first or found a non-destructive solution. I violated every principle I was given.”"
