Any problem piling old insulation into my attic?

DIYer... I'm doing a garage conversion. The existing insulation is clean, dry and unfaced fiberglass bats. It's only being removed because it doesn't meet modern R value requirements.

Is it ok for me to lay the old low R value wall insulation over blown in insulation elsewhere in my attic?

the project area will be getting new blown in R-30. I'm thinking that rather than taking the old insulation to the dump I'd lay it over the blown in insulation outside of the project area.

  1. Are there any problems with this (Clean/dry/unfaced)...
  2. Will this raise eyebrows or cause problems with my ceiling insulation inspection in the project area?

Steel framed partition wall with a bent stud...

Pulling a permit for an as-built garage room conversion in California. The permit notes the wall as steel framed 20" oc. This is an interior, non load bearing, partition wall. Will the bent stud be flagged as a code violation on my framing inspection? I'm guessing it will, and my first thought is to rip out the last stud and put two wood studs in their place... one on the wood bottom plate and one on the steel bottom plate.

Thoughts?

Sharp A

My high A has always been super sharp. Just the A. After years of fighting with it I've started playing most high As third valve. It seems like it's a little easier to miss the partial but it's not a problem. I considered having a first valve trigger added to my horn but the altered fingering just works. The improved pitch is consistent and very noticeable.

Just one note... that's a problem with the horn right? I've been experimenting with different notes to see if just the 1st valve or just the 2nd valve have any consistent problems but it's really just the A and it's very sharp.

Any thoughts?

Is this window framing going to pass inspection?

I'm doing a garage conversion in California. I'm adding a bedroom to a two car garage. I'm replacing this existing window but am worried about the framing. The jack studs do not go all the way to the floor sill. There is a 2x4 on end between the sill and the jack studs. . Also, the upper cripple studs are about 1/4" short of the header... so not supporting anything.

  1. Is there a valid reason to frame it this way?
  2. Will an inspector flag the jack studs?
  3. Is a doubled up 2x4 an adequate header for a 36" window?
  4. If I don't replace the header, does shimming the cripple studs meet code?

Cutting logs at home. Are they dry enough? How thick?

I have four small logs (6" diameter <2ft length) that have been in my garage for years. They have some sentimental value and I want to make a gift from the wood. Will I need to dry them after cutting if they have been in a stable moderate environment with open ends for many years? Should I allow for shrinkage when sawing them?

Custom wood milling?

Anyone know where I can get just a few small logs (~6"diameter x 1.5' length) milled down to boards in Santa Cruz?

Android: Active Insulin and Glucose graphed together in real-time

I use an InPen which logs insulin, and Dexcom which logs glucose. These two apps don't play nice together so there was no way to see both insulin and glucose at the same time. I had to look at both apps to get the full picture. I was unable to get xDrip to read InPen values.

I created a custom android app which scrapes inPen Data from the inPen app and reads dexcom data from the share API and created a unified view.

I can't share the app because I'm sure scraping InPen violates TOS, and my use of Android accessibility options violates the Android TOS. If anyone is interested I can share the PRD which could be fed into an AI to recreate the app.

Getting real time data out of Inpen?

Has anyone had any luck getting real time data out of the inpen? I want one view with my current blood sugar AND current insulin in board. Dexcom delays data to the inpen app and inpen has no real time export. XDrip has settings which look like it should accept inpen data but I haven't gotten it to work. Does anyone have a solution that works?

G7, InPen, android, programming skills.
