Philco Woodstock worth buying?

Philco Woodstock worth buying?

I don’t know much about old CRTs but I thought this looked really cool. It’s listed for sale at $50. Are these hard to get working?

Swarm cell or wonky comb?

First year beekeeper
Location: Mississippi

I have 2 full brood boxes and I’m shocked to see a full super. 8 frames.

I added a queen excluder (she was in bottom brood box) as well as another super today.

Everything looked great except this. Is this wonky comb or should I be worried?

First restoration I’ve ever done

The protected original color was a bit lighter than the aged body, so I went with a close color to that. I left the motor the original color - I just couldn’t bring myself to alter that.

How to open up motor to replace wires?

I’m not very handy but I’ve been having fun restoring this 1960s fan. High mode works, just not medium or low. All looked good on the other end, now I just need to get inside. I figured it would just be nuts and screws but I have these odd round things. Please advice. Thanks!

Remove entrance reducer?

First year beekeeper.
Location: Mississippi.

It’s currently hot as Satan’s anus and only getting hotter. Humidity is terrible.

I have a screened bottom, the telescopic lid is slid all the way forward, and inner cover notch is empty.

I have my reducer on the larger setting and they’re bearding. They’ve filled 2 deeps and I added a super a few weeks ago and they’re covering that. Strong hive.

Should I just remove the entrance reducer entirely?

Found metal detecting

This looks to say Wenzel 1887. It’s a little bigger than a U.S. quarter. Any idea what it came off of?

Antique fan I purchased today

I’d like to restore this. From what I’ve found, it’s a 1960s Lakewood Country Aire. I’d like to know which exact year/model - most I’ve found online have a dial for speed and not these colorful buttons. Thanks!

Leaky washer only during agitation?

GE model GTW750CSL0WS
Year: 2018-2020 or so

Water drips quickly and leaks only during agitation. It does come pouring out in the front right side of I’m facing the washer. Probably a quart or 2 every time it agitates.

The beige hose/clamp seems to be dry. I did get a video from the bottom up with my GoPro but having trouble uploading.

I tried to get a video of it with the top off looking down but doesn’t want to agitate with the top off. It got stuck on sensing forever.

I’ll attach a picture.

Red = where most of the water is coming from
Orange = 2nd place
Green = third

But good chance it’s coming from higher up.

If you can help, I’d appreciate it!

Purchased my first vintage radio: 1942 RCA 29k

I purchased this 2 days ago and have had a blast with it so far. I ordered new capacitors, dial cord, replacement lamps, and decals.

While waiting for those to arrive, I’ve been downloading radio from the era and plan to use an AM transmitter to play through it.

Any advice appreciated!

All wonky burr comb?

Location: Mississippi

Hive age: 6 weeks from package

Info: first and second brood boxes (8 frame) were 90% full. Added my first honey super with queen excluder today. I will stop feeding syrup now.

Questions: is all of this weird comb normal burr comb? Does anything look odd to you? The last 2 pictures are from 2 frames stuck together that tore.

Also, I only noticed eggs on 1/4 of one side of a frame. I assume they ran out of room last week.

Any advice or anything you see is appreciated! Thanks

When to do first varroa mite treatment?

Location: Mississippi
Hive: 7 weeks old

Queen is doing great - I don’t want to unnecessarily kill bees doing an alcohol wash. I will if that’s the best course for my hive at this point.

  1. Should I start wit

h apivar or OAV?

  1. When?

Question about the great queen excluder debate

To use or not to use…that seems to be split 50/50 among beekeepers.

1st question: what if I want to use one but just wait as long as possible. When it’s getting close to harvesting time, I make sure the queen isn’t in the supers (if she is, put her in the deeps), add the excluder…wait at least 24 days. Bingo bango no eggs or pupa. This minimizes the time it’s on there but how long until those are filled with honey?

2nd question: I’ve heard plastic excluders suck. Why exactly?

Edit: Location: Mississippi

Do you shake bees off of the first frame?

I’m new and have about a 6 week old hive I’ve done several inspections on. I was rereading beekeepers for dummies now that I have some hands on knowledge to staple the info to in my head…and came across page 160. It said it to keep the fjrst (wall) frame out and when replacing it, shake the bees off. I’ve always just lifted each frame and carefully lowered back when I’m done inspecting. Is this a rule you follow where you keep one out and shake off the bees?

I’m sitting here enjoying my coffee watching my bees and saw 2 workers drag a drone out, and then one worker flew away with him. He was alive. My hive is a month old in Mississippi and is doing very well so far. I thought they only kicked them out for winter supplies?

Edit: Another drone just came outside to chill and didn’t get escorted out

Location: Mississippi

Time frame: Started 1 deep from a package 1 month ago. Half of the frames are filled (middle frames) the other half hardly have anything on them.

The uncapped swarm cell is at the top on this frame in the picture.

Overall everything looks great. I see nectar, bread, eggs, pupa, I saw the queen, capped worker cells (didn’t see any drone cells)…no beetles or moths.

Is this just a practice cell? Should I remove it? Are they feeling out of room even though they have 50% of the frames left?
