Dentists (and doctors…)

Hi all. I’ll be moving to your lovely city at the end of September, and I was wondering if there are any recommendations for dentists in town. And I know it can be a tougher one, but I’d love to get a doctor there as well, so even just getting on a wait list would be good start.

Thanks, and see you all soon!

Renting downtown

Good morning all

I’m heading to look at an apartment on King St. this evening, and was hoping to get a bit of an impression on living in Bowmanville, both downtown and in the broader area.

I currently live downtown Peterborough and, while it has some issues, I generally enjoy it. I’m a middle aged male, so some safety concerns might be lessened a bit. I do love walking around, checking out shops, and tasty food.

Thanks for any insights!

Edit: Thanks everyone for the replies. I saw the place after work and it was lovely. After a little tour of the downtown, I decided to take it. See you all around!

1836 Shilling

Found in a box in a drawer with a bunch of junk. My oldest one! Sorry the lighting isn’t a little better.

Any thoughts on these pieces?

Got these off a lady who said they were vintage Soviet tea holders. I assumed silver plated, but there’s not a lick of tarnish anywhere. Markings on the plate seems to say mod.dep 800, so Italian, French and such according to google. No markings on the holders themselves. Thanks!

Edit: There’s actually a mod.dep 800 mark on the double handled one.

Edit again: I’ve been able to figure out that it’s from an Italian demitasse set, and likely had porcelain inserts, probably from the 50’s or 60’s. It’s definitely not 80% silver, though possibly silver plated. I still find it weird that there’s 0 tarnish if that’s the case though. There are similar sets that have Weidmann porcelain with them, as well as Monopoli. I’m thinking the cup holders were made by a separate manufacturer for multiple porcelain makers. Fun stuff!

Cuban church coins

I got these coins in an auction and was wondering if anyone has more info on them. Numista has the general info on them, but I can’t seem to find anything else. Any thoughts?

More fake coins?

Funny that there was just another post on this, as I was looking at these coins and considering whether to buy them. Viewing comparisons online, it seems these may be fake/reproductions as well.
Any tips on identifying genuine coins of this type?

Any thoughts on these stamps?

I’m just getting into silver and trying to learn the various stamps and such. Any help would be great!

I was lucky enough to add these two to my collection recently.

My question is whether it’s okay to clean them up a bit for presentation. It seems that’s generally frowned upon (unless done by an expert maybe?), but my concern isn’t the value so much as having them as an interesting bit of history. Would I be ruining them by cleaning them? Or is there a reasonably safe way to shine them up a bit that won’t damage them in any serious way? Is the value purely in the metal, so shining them up won’t matter too much?
