A small update on the Russian/Soviet equipment archive

It's been a couple months since I posted this here, and I just wanted to update everyone.

It's grown by at least 5 to 6x since the last post. A lot of material has also been coming from people adding photos, identifying equipment, and writing up descriptions for different items.

There's now a pretty broad mix of Soviet and Russian equipment across different periods and units. If anyone has a good knowledge of more modern Russian Armed Forces, SSO, FSB, GRU, etc., those areas could definitely use some more attention.

Here's some of the stuff that's been added/changed:

Navigation

I moved the navigation to the top on desktop so photos and content can take up more of the screen. This is still a bit of a feeler, so I'd be interested to hear whether people prefer the top navigation or the old sidebar.

Overview pages

Collections/units now have their own overview pages. There you can see popular albums/operations, equipment used in them, historical information, etc.

Equipment family pages

Equipment with multiple variations can now be grouped into a family page. So instead of having to find each variant separately, you can see them together and compare them. Documentation/comparisons can also be added to the page.

Unassigned references

If you know what the equipment in a photo is but don't know the context, you can now add the photo directly to that equipment page. It'll sit under "Unassigned References" until someone can figure out where it belongs.

The idea is still pretty simple: make it easier to identify equipment from photographs and find other examples of the same stuff.

I've been putting together a searchable archive of Soviet and Russian military gear.

I got permission from the mods to post this.

Hey guys, I've spent the last few months building an archive for Russian and Soviet equipment because I was constantly digging through FB groups, old forum posts, VK albums, Reddit threads, and random archives trying to identify gear.

https://vintorez.com

The site lets you:

- Browse thousands of photos that others and myself added

- Click equipment directly inside tagged photos to identify what operators are wearing

- Compare equipment variants across different eras and units

- Save gear to your own kit builder ("My Gear")

- Upload and help document new reference photos

It currently covers everything from Imperial Russia through modern Russian units, with new equipment and photos being added regularly.

If you're collecting or building anything FSB, MVD, VDV, GRU, or other Russian kits, I'd like to hear what you think or what features would make it more useful.

Change of situation. Was looking at TCL QM8L for living room but now looking for basement.

Like the title says, is the qm8l 65" still a good TV for a basement? We usually keep some lights on but it is a bit more dim than our sunny living room. Budget is $1500, is oled a better option for this? Size we're looking at is 65"

I made a reference site for anyone building Russian kits.

Vintorez.com

I started a website about a couple months ago called Vintorez. This is a site for all eras/units of Russia/USSR. KGB/FSB/SSO/MVD/Armed Forces etc.

The overall goal is to catalog Russian equipment of all eras by tagging specific spots on photos. One day, no matter what photo you look at, you'll know something about the equipment the user is wearing/weilding.

Here's some of the things you can do:

- Anyone can add Equipment, weapons and reference photos once making an account (pending approval).

- Build loadouts based on what equipment you own. When you view a piece of equipment add it to My Gear. Open My Gear and based on what items you select it will show you photos of that equipment in use. Narrow it down by selecting multiple pieces of equipment.

- Use the compare page to look at any equipment on the site side by side with another piece.

- I've also added a marketplace for any era of equipment to B/S/T. Currently to use it you need 25 points.

Points are easy to accumulate, you can view photos in the reference section and identify equipment. Add categories, items, content on photos, add loadouts to the community page. Most contributions give you points.

You can see how many points you have either on your profile page or when trying to post on the marketplace.

- There's a community section for users to post their own kits/loadouts.

And more.

Visit Vintorez.com and let me know what you think of the site.

Vintorez.com - Interactive Community Driven Equipment Archive

Vintorez.com

I listened to what everyone had to say and I rebuilt the site so that all eras and units have a place on the website now. What was TSSNArchives is now Vintorez. It's an interactive archive where reference photos are tagged with equipment ids in the photo. You can click the equipment and it brings you to a page that tells you about the equipment, shows photos, and shows all photos of it in use that also have that ID.

So now we have eras from the early Imperial Russian pre-1917, to the Red army, Atomic era, Late soviet, and Russian Federation. We also have Early KGB, Early MVD, VDV, GRU, SSO and possibly more.

Currently early and middle eras of FSB are fleshed out pretty nicely with equipment and references. Looking for people to add to Modern FSB, SSO, VDV, GRU.

So check out the site and let me know what you think, I have a forum area where you can make suggestions for additions, fixes, bugs, or just thoughts in general.

If you like how the site is going consider leaving a small donation as it helps pay for hosting and development.

TSSN Archives - New website for archiving equipment and references

What's up guys. I'm creating a site to document, cross reference, and help identify photos using tags and other means. I've only shared this on my IG page and a few other spots so I'm looking for more feedback. Check out the site and let me know what you think.

FSB/MVD are available to toggle between on the site to separate equipment, reference photos.

Also please consider leaving a donation in the side bar as it costs a bit to keep it running.

https://tssnarchives.com

So make an account, add equipment, categories, add reference photos to events sections, tag equipment, chat in the live chat, make identification markers to have other help identify something etc.

I have about $2k to spend right now. The TV is for a living room that's relatively brightly lit with windows but there's never direct sunlight on the TV at any point of the day, we also watch movies at night. We aren't sports people and also don't play games on this specific TV. Mainly for movies and shows during the day and night.

It seems like the TCL QM8L fits my budget and needs but what do you guys think?

Going from a 50" to a 75" should be nice since the couch is 14ft away. I'd go bigger but I don't have the space unfortunately.
