Worth it to upgrade to premium stopover package?

Going from Bangkok to London with a stop at Abu Dhabi, I initially was set on the free 2 day stopover but the extra £150 for a 3 day premium stopover at the Grand Hyatt is really convincing.

If I ignore the extra day, is it worth the extra money to be Grand Hyatt compared to the Grand Millenium Al Wahda which I was initially going for?

Can someone tell me if this noise is normal (not cold start)

(I want to start by saying I’m a complete novice about cars so I apologise if I make mistakes.)

I Purchased a 1.4t petrol Astra K 2016 on around 80k miles a few weeks ago, I read a lot about making sure there isn’t any timing chain issues and upon purchasing it I didn’t hear any obvious rattle.

Now overtime, maybe it’s in my head but I can hear this sound (in the video) a bit when idle in the car and a lot more when opening the bonnet. Like I said, it could just be me in a quiet car picking up noises that are completely normal but I have no clue.

Can someone confirm if this is okay? I know at this mileage changing the timing chain is something that should be considered but it’s not economically worth it for me if I have to.

How many accidents/crashes before you get fired?

(Argos but I believe we use the exact same system across the board)

I had my first incident a couple of weeks ago as I bumped a parked car and scratched their wing mirror and cracked the vans tail/brake light, nothing crazy but I obviously reported it.

I was speaking to an individual today, and they told me they’ve been in a lot. I wish I asked what a lot was but I laughed it off and carried on with my van check as I was late.

So I was wondering what is the system Sainsburys use to determine when it’s time to let go somebody for having too many accidents and is it the same for agency workers? Is it different if there is no third party involved? Is it different with how bad the crash can be (e.g. severity ranging from a scratch, to a minor dent, to a major dent all the way to writing off the car)

Help with Do Not Rehire

I’m going to guess this is a very niche issue but I worked for Sainsburys back in 2024 and left without notice due to a variety of reasons, but mostly because of finding a better job a lot closer to home. I suspect that I may have been placed on a do not rehire list but of course could be wrong.

Anyways, I now work for an agency related with Argos delivery and after a certain period (12 weeks) they usually offer a permanent position at Argos. I’ve had an informal conversation about this with one of the team managers but nothing concrete as I still have a few more weeks.

My main worry is would a do not rehire at Sainsburys affect this switch to a permanent Argos employee?

I don’t want to ask and they find out now and as I’m agency they can just release me as worst case scenario.

Scrapped a car today whilst doing deliveries, do I need to tell my personal insurance about it?

Hi guys, so I managed to scuff a wing mirror yesterday when exiting out of a narrow car park. Nothing broke, managed to stop just in time and only left a scratch.

Left a note on the windscreen and called up insurance to notify them.

My main question is would I have to notify my personal insurance about this incident? I understand at other companies you do and others you don’t, something about being company liability and the company making the claim, not the driver individually.

Any advice would be helpful.

Credit utilisation on apps hasn’t updated since early May?

I understand credit scores are just a marketing tool but I still want it to be at a decent level to take advantage of credit card offers etc.

However I have been using a lot of my credit and paying it off fully monthly (unless it’s 0% interest on purchases and I’m paying good chunks off monthly) but on all my credit score apps the last time any of my banks have updated anything was on the 18th May and that’s when I utilised quite a bit of my credit compared to now.

Are these updated randomly?

Thanks for any help.

I just get abused constantly when driving a company van

I don’t know whether drivers either don’t know or don’t care that we have separate speed limits and that a LOT OF US have black boxes that track our speed and harshness of braking and acceleration, but I constantly get beeped at and the occasional person swearing at me when overtaking because I’m doing 10mph less than them on a single carriageway when it’s NSL.

It’s even worse when I’m on country lanes on the most narrowest single track road with infinite bends & barely any passing places and locals (I’m guessing) are expecting me to hit 50mph with 700kg loaded in the van and not touch my brakes.

And I do let them overtake when I have the opportunity, but it’s leading up to a passing place that it’s constant beeping and flashing lights.

I’ve already had 2 discussions with my manager about harsh braking on these country lanes that has lowered my score when I did decide to do 40mph and oncoming cars come out of nowhere so I’ve decided to ignore these drivers but it still irks me out sometimes and gives unwanted pressure.

Temporary speed limit on motorway of 50, I went 55 and saw a flash. Am I okay?

For context, I was doing about 47mph but the electronic speed signs that showed 50 all went away so I started speeding up and I noticed a bright flash when going past.

If I was a betting man I must’ve been going maximum 55mph on my speedometer so around 52mph taking into account the buffer. My company van has a limiter of 56mph so guaranteed not more than that.

Still within my 2yr period of my licence so really don’t want points and also a fine. This could be a dumb question but just need some reassurance haha.

Checking sat nav on my phone in a cradle whilst stationary in traffic, is it okay?

Hi everyone, I’ve recently started my first driving job delivering parcels and I was just wondering what the law says about using my phone (acting as a sat nav) in a cradle whilst in traffic.

I exclusively only touch it when my engine is off as I have the automatic start stop feature (please correct me if this is technically not ‘engine off’) and I only check to see if there are quicker routes and what lanes to take later on. I do not do this if I’m near the front of e.g. traffic lights or junctions. I do not remove it from the cradle.

Information is kind of confusing when researching so any help would be appreciated. Only got my licence last year so still kind of learning

Tips for new Argos Driver

Hi everyone, I’m soon about to start as an Argos driver but with an agency. It will be a shift of 13:45-21:45.

I wanted to ask if there are things I should be prepared for, tips and tricks & how the drops work in terms of finishing before your shift end. Do you just get to go home or do you support others or work in the warehouse etc?

Also I’ve driven smaller vans previously but nothing like the Merc Sprinters at Argos, this is a particular thing that’s been on my mind that I’m dreading as I believe there will be an assessment for it.

But any other advice outside the vans would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone’s finesses becoming Post/Crossbar magnets?

Before they messed around with finesses months ago, my finesses were either going in or wide/over.

After the messed with it and then did a patch to fix it, I have been hitting the post or crossbar at least 3 times a game from finesses.

I thought it was just me using too much power, so I’ve been using less power but the gk would just save it so tried finding a sweet spot again.

But this morning I had a game where I hit the post/crossbar more than I didn’t, must’ve been at least 7 times. The opponent messaged me acknowledging it as well.

This happening to anyone else?

Should choose Royal Mail or other job?

I’ve been given an interview at Royal Mail, and it’s about 15mins bus from my house, but I also 80% likely have another job as a delivery deliver which from the job description sounds infinitely better and after a telephone interview it sounds like something I’d enjoy, around 30 drops a day and weekly pay until I become a permanent employee. Pay is slightly higher than RM. However the commute is about 1hr 15mins one way (don’t own a car).

I want to hear first hand from RM employees if I should just try my best in the Royal Mail interview and take it if I’ve been offered or if the longer commute to the other job is still worth it to not work at RM.

I was thinking maybe to work at RM until I get a car and then move onto better opportunities? What do you guys think?
