Etihad has ruined its A380 economy ‘comfort’

In 2022 I flew EY A380 Economy Comfort and was super impressed by the spacious seating. Fast forward to today and flying the A380 again and they have added an extra row making it super tight - there basically is no more ‘Comfort’ section on the plane. I don’t mind 30” pitch if I’m flying an hour on a low-cost, but not 10+ hours long-haul. Why have Etihad made the seating so tight on the world’s largest plane whilst it is still pleasantly spacious on their 787-10?! Comparison pics attached of their seatmap on the website versus in-app chart showing an extra row.

LHR to SYD via AUH- window or aisle

Genuinely not sure what I should do for the 2 legs. I usually go Aisle but then no window to lean on (or people to walk past me etc)

I know it's an age old debate and I'm not sure why I'm undecided - but it's a long-ass journey and I'm trying to make it as pleasant as possible.

Boeing 777-300ER

Can anyone tell me what these two seats are (rows 51-55), and why there is a space between them? My partner and I are trying to figure out what seats to book. She likes window seats and I like the aisle so this seems like the perfect fit but worrying there's something uncomfortable between them.

Also any other tips or tricks for these flights would be greatly appreciated. Flying Dublin to Sydney through Abu Dhabi. The AUH to SYD plane is an Airbus A350-1000.

2 different bookings seat selection

Hi everyone,
It will be my first time flying with etihad. I’m also flying with my friend but we purchased our flights on different days and accounts but we’re going to be on the same flights basically. What’s like a best tactic to do to make sure we sit together without paying soo much for seats next to each other?

Meals

I will be flying with Etihad in September and I am vegetarian. We will be in economy and while I saw that I can change my food preferences online I wanted to know whether they give you a choice of vegetarian or meat dish regardless.

Last time when I flew with Lufthansa they had a choice of chicken and cheese pasta regardless. The vegetarian meal that I had pre selected was worse than the “normal” meal. So now I’m unsure whether I should cancel my vegetarian Etihad meal.

Eithad lower than Ryan air.

Seem like eithad not willing to provide entertainment on flights anymore. All screen on this flight physically removed and “ebox” system doesn’t work. Seems like entertainment never works on eithad flights.

Seems like an airline charging premium dollars and giving a ryan air experience. Thanks eithad for the 3rd class experience.

Do I get refund or an emd if the problem is official and from the embassy

Hi , we booked tkts in june 2026, had 2 weeks for a visa which usually takes 3 days . The embassys servers crashed. We have it in writing. Can we ask Etihad for a EMD voucher instead of a date change as the price difference is exorbitant .

Disgusted by what I just saw a flight attendant doing in the lavatory (Abu Dhabi to Dublin)

Hey everyone, I’m still kind of reeling from this and need to vent/see if this is actually normal practice (god, I hope not).

A few days ago, I was on a flight from Abu Dhabi to Dublin. I was standing near the galley waiting to use the restroom when I noticed one of the flight attendants carrying about 6 of those metal hot water/coffee flasks.

Instead of taking them to a proper galley sink, they brought them straight into the onboard lavatory to wash them out. If that wasn’t bad enough, when they opened the lavatory door to leave, they literally **set the flasks directly on the floor of the dirty airplane bathroom** to free up their hands.

We all know how disgusting airplane bathroom floors are. It’s basically a biohazard zone. Seeing items used for passenger beverages touching that floor made my stomach turn.

I really, *really* hope those flasks get properly sanitized and deeply cleaned once the plane lands, because the thought of drinking coffee or tea out of those on the next flight is sickening.

Has anyone else ever witnessed something like this? Is this against airline protocol, or am I overreacting?

Flight from Chicago to Abu Dhabi

My kids (13 and 9 yr old) and I are booked to fly from Chicago to Abu Dhabi next week on the 8:35pm flight. Has anyone recently taken this route? If so, how busy was the plane? I am wondering if I should place a bid to upgrade, or if the plane would be empty enough where we won’t feel cramped in Economy. Was the food and overall service okay? Any reviews on those who have recently taken this flight would be helpful! Thank you

Missing out on Etihad miles. How to fix?

So my girlfriend made an Etihad account after our flights with them recently and it says on the website that you can add previous flights to gain the miles from them. So I tried using the ticket number and reference number multiple times and it wouldn’t work. Does anyone know why or had this problem? Thanks

Does eithad not accommodate medical emergencies?

Hi, i just want to know ky eithad airways medical reasons pr charges waiver off nahi karty?? Last month my parents booked flight to Manchester with eithad but suddenly my father got hospitalised and doctors advised him to bedrest. Know he’s all better Alhamdulilah and doctors said he can travel. I send airlines each n every report medical report, hospital records everything and still they denied to cancel the wavier. I just talk to their representative and he said that you have to pay all the extra charges doesn’t matter he wasn’t able to travel.
Is there anyway to waive off those charges? Or to get a refund?

Upgrading long haul flight

I'm flying Abu Dhabi to Sydney in 4 days and looking to bid or instant upgrade to business as it's a 13.5hr flight.

Yesterday the minimum bid was £2080 and today it's dropped to £1879. Instant upgrade is £2835. I've seen there's 25 out of 44 business seats still available.

I know it's dynamic pricing that can fluctuate but what would be considered a massive steal if they struggle to have more people fly business?

I've never looked to upgrade this length of flight before

Is Etihad abusing its power over customers?

Me and my wife booked two tickets with Etihad to travel to India to visit her family. Being a short trip, we only booked one checked lugagge on her ticket, and an Economy Basic fare for myself, without a checked luggage. At the moment of making the booking, the Economy Value (next tier) for me was only 30-40€ extra and it included a 30kg checked bag. We didn't choose it not so save money, but simply because it wasn't necessary. If it costs 30-40€ at the time of booking, it can't be too bad later on, right? I was even ready to pay 100-150€ for my luggage, already expecting them to charge a lot more for that later. But hopefully we wouldn't need it.

Our plans changed, and she had to travel for work right before our trip. So her ticket was changed to a different date. I then had to find a way to add a checked bag to my ticket, since we were no longer travelling together, and her itinerary had changed and couldn't take all our common stuff.

What would have costed us 30-40€ at the time of booking for a round long-haul trip, was now 539€. They were charging us 352€ for the outward journey, and another 187€ for the return, for a single 20kg checked bag. I couldn't believe it. Had anyone known these prices, they would have never booked the Economy Basic fare. Now they were charging 90% of the price of the fare just to add a 20kg luggage.

This is clearly an abuse of power and asymetry of information on their part, and sadly the first time I experience this with airlines, especially in intercontinental, long-haul trips where most airlines usually offer a checked back (sometimes two) as part of their basic ticket.

I contacted them through multiple channels (emails, calls, Twitter, live chats). I was contacted by phone by two representatives. The first one offered me a 23kg checked bag at 673€, noting that she couldn't offer the same price as in the website from her position, and that the website would be my best option. The second one promised he would help, but never called back, replied to the emails, or picked up my subsequent calls. I also politely ask for one of any exeptions: a 10 kg complimentary checked bag, any additional bag for a cost of 100-150€, an upgrade on the ticket fare paying the difference, and even a cancellation of the ticket. They couldn't meet any of these requests. The best they could do was a 539€ 20kg checked bag, or a 260€ 10kg one.

When I tried to formally write a complain to Etihad, they told me they don't have a process to accept customer complaints before they complete their journeys, so if I really wanted to, I could write a complain after my trip.

Writing this here for whatever is worth. Be careful when buying tickets with Etihad. And to share a story of a clear abuse of power by one of the biggest long-haul airlines.

Baggage Delayed Compensation

I’m in a dispute with Etihad over a delayed baggage claim and want to know what my options are.

Flight was Etihad EY021 from Abu Dhabi to Toronto on 5 April 2026. We were 3 passengers, including 2 small kids. None of our checked bags arrived, and we filed a PIR immediately. After a long trip, hours at the airport, jet lag, and arriving from Dubai into cold Toronto weather, we had no clothes or essentials and later bought only necessary emergency items totaling CAD 655.39.

Etihad rejected the claim saying the purchases were made outside the “eligible period” because, according to them, 2 bags were delivered on 6 April and the last bag on 7 April. But the baggage emails I received only said the bags were “prepared to be delivered” on later dates, which doesn’t prove actual delivery. Nobody from Etihad told me during the delay that I had to buy essentials before some specific cutoff time either, even though I emailed and called them asking about reimbursement.

What makes it worse is that Etihad only gave a substantive response more than a month after I made the claim, and then rejected it on this timeline argument.

What are my options from here? I want to make sure I at least get reimbursed for the CAD 655.39 I spent on emergency items, and honestly I feel I should be compensated for the hassle as well.
