Overheating help 😂

Is anyone else an online shopper and literally feel like you're overheating running around? I have issues with my body not regulating temperature correctly anyway and then the uniform is so thick and not breathable at all, I'm really struggling 🫣🫣

Food or customer experience manager

For people that have gone from 3s to 4s in a supermarket, what would you say the best department or least stressful between food and customer experience manager?

Potential rehire?

I previously worked at Sainsburys in my home city then transferred to a different Sainsburys for uni. I made a very stupid mistake and stole some money from the register which resulted in me having to resign from my transfer store. The manager there obviously deleted my account etc and told me they would inform my home store. I thought it wouldn’t hurt to email my manager at home asking if I could be rehired when returning home for uni and he doesn’t seem to know I was fired and said I can be rehired. Will they actually rehire me as it seems he doesn’t know and I originally worked there before my transfer? I know it’s bad to reapply but it was an honest mistake I would never make again and really want a job.
Any advice would be appreciated :)

Brother banned, just a Q.

Sorry for invading your Reddit thread but I had a question that I wanted answering.

Brother has been done for shoplifting yesterday. Scanned and paid for a bag of shopping, but didn’t (he claims mistakenly) pay for some bits at the end of trolley (Crate of diet cokes and some other soft drinks) He was confronted by some undercover security and issued a blanket store ban. I obviously completely understand Sainsbury’s are within their rights to do this as it’s private property and he claims others were also being done at the same time as him. He works away in the week so uses this specific Sainsbury’s but I can’t help be feeling that this ban would be incredibly hard to enforce nationwide.

He claims he hasn’t done it before and obviously theft is theft but he might not be telling me the whole story and of course, he might’ve done this numerous times. But I feel he just got busted because of some store detectives being present at the time. Having some experience with guys like through my work, I know they can be a little heavy handed, although my brother said they were super professional

The point is, I’m incredibly sceptical a company like Sainsbury’s are able to enforce this nation wide. The facial technology thing is fair enough, but I know even this is highly costly and is unlikely to ping out in real time. I’ve obviously told him to avoid for now and I know it’s trespassing if he goes back to a store. How are they enforcing this in a store up north where we are from? Feels more like a deterrent and they can use a ban to escalate in the future.

Does this sound like unfair treatment from a manager or am I overreacting?

My new manager denied my vacation request and I genuinely don’t know if I’m overreacting or if this is unfair.

I requested PTO for July 3–7 because I booked a trip for my 20th birthday. I submitted the request on May 15th, which is almost 7 weeks in advance. Company policy (from what i’ve been told) only requires 4 weeks notice. I also have more than enough vacation hours saved up.

What’s bothering me is there’s already been another weird situation with this manager. One day she removed me from the schedule at 3am the same day I was supposed to work. My sister (who also works there) asked her about it because I thought it was strange. She said it was probably an “error” and told me to come in anyway because I’m always scheduled Mondays and usually work those shifts alone. Then when I got there, someone else was already working and apparently I “wasn’t needed.” Afterward, the hours I DID work got removed from my timecard until another manager fixed it for me.

Now she denied my PTO request even though,
I followed policy, I gave nearly double the required notice, other employees have gotten vacation approved and I’ve been covering a ton of overtime.
For example, I normally work 5 days a week, this week I’m working 6, and next week I’m scheduled 12 days in a row.

At this point the trip is already booked and paid for and I’m not cancelling it. I’m planning on resubmitting the request in writing so there’s documentation.

Am I wrong for thinking this is unreasonable?

GOL Drivers - No Reverse Camera

Can I refuse a van that does not have a reverse camera? At my store, one of the vans does not have a reverse camera.
I've refused to drive it before however managers disagreed, saying the van is still suitable and safe for roads as long as the reverse alarm is active and working (I ended up NOT failing vehicle check and drove it. I understand the managers point however, the van has been issued multiple times on evening shifts, which seems unsafe as driving without a reverse camera during the night is on par as driving blind
What can I do in this situation if it was to come again. Can I refuse the van completely, or is the van still suitable for roads so must drive it?

Help with job hours

So I applied for a job a few days ago that only stated the number of hours but didn't say the times. I got an interview quickly as I have worked at Sainsbury's before but am now worried it might be a nightshift job as the times for the interview were like 8/9/10 pm. Would it be worth ringing them and asking them about this? Cause I know I won't be doing a nightshift role

Dismissal

I had a appeal yesterday for dismissal and the decision was announced straight after I don’t think my reasons were considered at all also the manger who did the appeal knows the note taker (who I feel was not neutral) in my disciplinary I feel the process was fixed.
My question is do they tell you outcome on the day or do they write back to you

Availability champion

Got pulled into a meeting today because apparently I “talk too much” as an Availability Champion.

Yeah, I’ll admit I occasionally stop for a quick chat like anyone else, but nothing excessive. Most of the time I’m speaking to shoppers and night staff because that’s literally part of the role.

I need to find out:
- what stock has/hasn’t been worked,
- whether anything’s been moved,
- location errors,
- and update locations when shift moves stuff without telling anyone.

I’m not wandering around gossiping all shift, I’m trying to keep availability accurate and sort problems before they get worse.

Then I also got told off for not adjusting stock counts when it says stuff like 0.3 or -0.4, even though I don’t even have access to change stock figures.

I’ve only been in the role around 2 months, had one training shift, and I’m already struggling to hit the targets I do sometimes hit them but I’m occasionally below 97% because I’m still learning. Feels like I’m getting blamed for things outside my control while also being criticised for communicating to actually do the job properly.

Anyone else in Sainsbury’s had this sort of thing happen?

Over and Underpaid?

Quit couple months ago and finally received my payslip + p45 but haven't been paid it even now.

Now I got a letter says I been overpaid £116 for holiday in the same payslip and that I NEED to pay them within 30 days of the letter being sent 8th May. Ain't my fault if manager approved holiday they shouldn't have, now I need to pay? Pfff

Emailed Leaver.repayments@sainsburys.co.uk bout it and waiting on HR but can no longer access account. Wack

Manager refusing to let me leave

I’m a shift manager currently and have just been accepted into CTM role however my manager has said I’m not allowed to leave until at least the end of July/start of August. Is this allowed and is there any way against challenging it?

4 week review meeting for online shopper

So i had my 4 week review today, i was told im slightly under target my iph is 188 and target is 194, by week 4 you are meant to be hitting target, and the target needs to be hit before he can confirm my employment.

however he also said all 3 managers are completely happy with where i am at the minute, so im not sure.

also the managers are all extremely nice and the above points weren’t said in a rude manner, I just dont know what he meant by confirming my employment and how i should be hitting targets now but at the same time they’re all happy with where I am.

So does this mean if i dont hit targets soon I’ll get the sack or?

Outright disrespect from line manager

(Nightshift)

Hey, just wondering whether or not reporting my line manager to Rightline would be effective or is reasonable. I basically was in a bit of pain as I had a lot of leg pain in my right leg, I was completely fine and able to bare it and didn't see the need to call in sick until it flared up mid-shift while I was carrying stock and almost gave out, my mind basically was like 'once I get this to the area, I can put it down and give it a break' and as such I had to quickly cram myself between a gap between two rollers which were completely obstructing the way (which caused me no additional pain), my line manager then came up to me and started to try and ask if I was okay, which I responded with yes and explained the brief flare, in which he tried to start a whole debate about me needing to ask him to move a roller which I didn't deem necessary as I was not injured in any way from doing such and I tried explaining my thought process to him especially when in severe pain (I have stated I consider myself neurodivergent on my application and I am currently on the waiting list for an assessment and have been since 2023) and then he just kept counter-arguing it all by basically accusing me of saying I was upset over not being able to take a break, which I didn't mind not taking (which I told him), which agitated me as he was disregarding my feelings and the difficulty I consider myself having which I believe managers may have access to, when I started to break down from the unnecessary debate and explain once again, he laughed and smiled in my face and then when I called it out he denied ever doing so and instead kept on adding pressure onto me and getting very rude. Throughout this I consistently insisted we drop the topic as I wanted to focus on my shift as it was the last for the week and I could recover, and he carried on 'instigating' responses from me when I was very much emotionally distressed and overwhelmed by the sudden event. I have had this issue with him before when I first started last year where his plan for the shift was overstimulating me because it was a mess, which me and other colleagues on shift agreed with and I was still fully capable of working just didn't want to socialise and he kept pestering me and insisting I go take 5 even when I said I really would rather work through it than come back and get stressed again, and then he told other managers about it in an insulting way and I was pulled aside by another manager who informed me of what he had said. I personally believe him to be very emotionally numb and unfit for the role of manager as he is incapable of supporting colleagues and instead resorts to arguing with them and I am uncomfortable with him being my line manager especially since he is our only night manager at the moment and I am on shift with him every time. Sorry if this is a bit incoherent, just need some advice please, I love my job but he makes it really hard for me to want to be at work when he does this stuff. Also to note, he insisted I was delaying the entire shift when it was in fact him by trying to debate something that didn't need debating, when he could've pulled me aside when we finished up all our tasks.

Life after Sainsbury's

Hi, randomly came across this sub and wanted to share my experience, in case it helps someone.

I was part of the massive redundancy event that happened a couple of years before COVID, basically a big restructure that got rid of team leaders and gave department managers more work, whilst getting rid of a load of them too. This was just after they bought Argos.

I was there for around 10 years, on Entertainment (when we used to have full entertainment aisles) and GM. I actually really enjoyed it for quite a while. Customer service was always at the forefront of everything we were taught and that positive interaction was encouraged. Slowly, budgets became tighter and practices started to shift a little, but it was still ok.

We then ended up with a psychopath store manager (when he was announced, we received "condolence" phone calls from other stores). Paired with easily pressured deputies, this led to a rapid decline in the store morale, due to his bullying tactics. I was miserable, but was terrified of making the leap to actually leave. Bills, kids etc needed to be paid, the thought of dropping to a lower wage, just to get out of there, made sure I never did it.

Then came the announced mystery meeting. It had been decided that team leaders were just "overpriced shelf stackers" (our store manager's words, just after he told us about his new car, from his recent pay rise 😐), which is a far departure from their view a year or so beforehand. The previous vision was to give more responsibility to team leaders, there were conferences and renewed training. Now we were no longer needed.

There were 3 choices. Take a redundancy package (boosted a bit, because they weren't giving us the proper notice), apply for one of the new roles or step down to colleague level, but effectively still do the stuff we were doing as team leaders, for less money.

The next couple of months was a lesson in corporate disdain. The people who chose to stay were officially referred to as the "winning team". This made the rest of us "losers". It turned out that around 90% of the managers and team leaders decided to leave. Those that decided to do a trial period of the new roles were screwed out of part of their redundancy package, without being notified. The HR team were treated even worse over their redundancy period, which overlapped with ours.

But what was unexpected for me, was...... relief. I was actually happy at the end of that meeting. I had an excuse to change my future. Being able to stand up to that store manager and watch him squirm was one of the most liberating feelings ever! "No, I'm not doing the RGIS count", "no, I can't do my delivery, tidy the shop floor and sit on a checkout, all at the same time".

After my last day, I went on holiday, then came back and started an apprenticeship in Horticulture. It was hard being on minimum wage for 2 years, but I'm now in a job that I genuinely love. My self worth and mental health have never been better.

So, whilst this may initially seem like a "Sainsbury's bashing" post, it's not. I genuinely enjoyed it for a few years and still hang out with some of the great people I met along the way. But for anyone feeling trapped in the retail grind, don't leave it as long as I did. Apprenticeships aren't just for young people, I was 36!

Sorry for the long post, just realised I've never really expressed all that before 🤣

A holiday booked 3 months in advance got refused.

As the title says, I asked for 5 days off for August 11-15 and got refused for 'Too many colleagues off'. Is there anything I can do because I really want to go to a concert for August 12th. Weird how there is 40 people in my department and somehow they can't let me have a holiday that far away.

"Can you..." can you get lost?

Im at my limit today tbh nearly 20 years working here, and recently the ladies on tills have embraced the whole

"You can't leave tills or self scan to do X"

With an almost religious devotion aka there using it as an excuse to be lazy

For the past two weeks me and the other guy who does back door/shop floor have been run ragged, can we put this away, can we find this barcode/item, can we do trolleys, can we shove a broom up our arse and sweep as we go along!

In between all this were also keeping the warehouse tidy and organised, emptying bales/crushing them down because the big green button that lights up is beyond most folk to press! Taking deliveries off wagons, loading salvage onto them, unloading Argos hub deliveries and taking them down (don't get me started on that one Argos can bring there salvage down but can't come get there hub delivery... the f@ck?!)

And I must stress this were doing this on our own, no help etc like most other departments were we see two or three people on an aisle working together

And managers wonder why me and the other back door guy are permanently semi grumpy

GOL drivers: How often do you get late?

I started only couple of weeks ago and about 4 out of 10 shifts, I came back late. The delays were anything between 30 mins to 75 mins. Major reason being, I couldnt find the address. We deliver mostly in the country side and it can be quite tricky to find addresses. One ocassion, it was a mix of reasons all at once: couldnt find addresses, stuck in traffic, too many totes and too little delivery time, customers being very slow etc.

I just wanted to ask, how often do you get late and what's the most common reason and do managers give you trouble for getting late?
