SCAM Alert

Just mentioning this here because it's the most accurate sounding scam call I have ever heard.

Wife received a call from our bank, USAA. The call showed their number that we have saved in our phone. I answered because her back hurts.

Good evening, this is Brad calling from USAA fraud department to verify two possibly fraudulent charges on your account. [Proceeds to list two charges which I, of course, deny since they were not real charges. He "cancels our card ending in XXXX and sends a new one to [our legitimately correct address] and will send the new PIN to [wife's legitimate email address on account]. Additionally, the device that attempted to run these charges is a Samsung Galaxy S26. I am going to deactivate your account on that device. Are you in a secure location so I can send you a confirmation code to add your correct device?"

Well, thankfully, I know better than to give information over the phone when someone calls me, so I told him I would just need to call back to take care of that.

"No problem, sir, I understand. Anything else you need? Alright, thank you, and have a great night."

Sure as shit, we call USAA and there is no record of any fraud charges, no record of a call, nothing. Clearly, Brad was trying to steal our stuff and that confirmation code would have asked us to sign in to our bank account and then queue the fat lady singing. Anyway, be careful people. This one was really, really good. No accent, perfectly spoofed caller ID, knew enough details about our account to make it real. When we looked at the call in her call log, it showed a call from the scammer about 10 seconds before a call from USAA. I honestly have no idea how they pulled that one off, but just wanted to let people know.

Finally admitting it

Hey, all. I am not asking for medical advice, I am asking for you to share your anecdotal experiences. I think I have developed agoraphobia over the past couple of years. I used to love going out to eat and going to concerts. Now, I have left my property eight times all year. I leave my house and go outside and walk around on my land, but that's because I don't have any close neighbors. It's just me and my dog.

Now, the thought of going out to a restaurant absolutely seizes me up. I make a decision to take my wife out, then when I am attempting to plan, all I can think of is how I am so fat that the restaurant probably won't have a seat I can sit in without breaking it.

It wasn't this bad even a year ago. This past July, I had to do a 32 hour round trip road trip. This was okay because I didn't have to really interact with people. Then, however, one hour away from home, I entered a convenience store to use the bathroom and get a drink, tripped over the rug at the front door and sent myself sprawling face first. It was awful. I didn't get physically hurt, but the tiny cashier came over to try and help me up, all 95 pounds of her. Then the cook came from the kitchen, weighing in at 115 pounds, thinking he was going to help stand my 430 pound fat ass up.

In the end, I had to crawl to the front door and use the door handles to pull myself up. It was probably the most embarrassing two minutes of the last ten years. Since then, the absolute fear and hatred of going out is simply overwhelming and I am starting to think I may need to seek actual therapy.

Anyway, I mostly just needed to vent a bit and see if my experience is a common one.

Basic Port WIP

I struggle with building ports and I figured, if I do, others must, too. So, I finally have a setup that is working and wanted to share it with others that may be struggling.

As you can see, it's nothing crazy, a large port with a cargo terminal and 4 delivery cranes. I can't stand the bright color of the port roads, so I use industrial roads, instead, but they all accomplish the same thing.

I have about 85% of my industry in my port (city is around 56k at this point) and the only imports I have are oil/petrol because I haven't started that industry, yet. I also have some of the industry signature buildings in here because, well, they're free!

Anyway, it's nothing amazing, but if it can help one other builder, then yay!

Hair Help for Helpless Grandpa

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for someone experienced with styling 4A/4B hair for my 7-year-old granddaughter. I tried my best to put her hair up to protect it, but I’m definitely not very good at it, and my wife isn't able to, either, due to shoulder injuries.

We usually go to a wonderful lady here in Pickens, but she’s fully booked until August 6th and Grandpa made the mistake of taking her old braids out to wash her hair without a backup plan (because he is a dingleberry)!

I can't quite afford the $100+ quotes I’m seeing from salons in Greenville, but I can swing the $60 we normally hit. Just looking for three weeks protection, if possible.

Thanks so much in advance to anyone who can help!

Okay, I'm confused

My entire city population, according to this counter on the bottom, is 273. Yet, the one building I am hovering over has 217. I have at least 200 low residential homes, one more building this size, and ~10 mixed with 5-15 residents each. Every building has residents.

So, yes, I use mods, and I know that it's a mod causing this, I am hoping someone else may have experienced the same thing and know which mod is the culprit and, more importantly, where can I see my actual population?

If I select Citizen Cleaner and just have it do a count, it tells me I have 2200 ish population, which makes WAY more sense to me.

EDIT: Well, wouldn't you know it, I figured it out about ten minutes after I made this post. The issue was Behavioral Realism Overhaul. It was preventing the move in traffic from actually entering the city so even though the residents "lived" there, they weren't actually present. Leaving this up just in case anyone else has the same issue.

Okay, so, I want to have PvE (solo game). However, I want to be left alone until I decide it's time for hostility. Basically, the way I like to play is to start on a planet (Usually Terra because I am not very good at the game and it's the only one I have been able to be even remotely successful on), build a base, then head off to space. I absolutely dread being attacked randomly and losing my work. This normally leads me to just play without combat, but I want the option to have that, eventually.

So, I turned off wolves and those other things, which allows me to take my sweet time building my base, but I also added MES because, to my understanding, you have to add it at the beginning of a game. The only faction I have added is Independent Contractors because that the only one I have been able to tell won't attack me unless I start with them, first.

Two simple questions (and honestly, question 2 is more important to me because I can absolutely survive with just one faction):

  1. What other factions can I add that aren't openly hostile?
  2. What settings do I need to have in the Advanced Settings of my game setup?
