S5 ep 4

Hey guys. First time watching girls and I’m up at S5 ep 4. I wanted to jump on here to give my thoughts around the whole Jessa and Adam thing that is starting to happen.

Just the other episode Adam was really emotional and asking Hannah to get back together, when they are gathered around Caroline and Lairds newborn baby. Hannah is really emotional and said that she couldn’t. She didn’t explicitly say why, but from what I gather, I just think that she made peace with not being with Adam, and perhaps she could sense that maybe he was fresh out of this relationship, and maybe not wanting to reconnect with her for the right reasons. Is this a good interpretation of that conversation?
Anyway,
I feel like this is really valid because when Hannah got back from Iowa, she was also really emotionally pleading with Adam and I think was really struggling to accept that Adam was moving on because she herself hadn’t moved on.

So he’s rejected her when she wants to reconcile, and now she’s turned down his request to reconcile.

But I still get the sense that Adam has feelings towards Hannah when he said to Jessa that couldn’t go in to …Maybe it was Rays chairman party…and said “I miss her too much” and walked away.
Anyway…!!!

Now he has feelings for Jessa and I’m like seriously? Yes I know Hannah is selfish but at the same time, I do feel like she tries to be a good friend. She’s the one who picked up Jessa from rehab. She also went with Jessa to see her father earlier in the show and was abandoned.
And yeah Jessa was going through shit and I can understand but it just feels low for Adam to be entertaining this now.

I acknowledge Jessa rejecting Adam advances and saying that they can’t pursue this but I don’t see it ending well. Or maybe it does who knows.
I haven’t finished this episode lol.

Maybe people find Hannah annoying but if this was to happen, I would definitely feel sympathy for her character. I don’t feel like she’s so horrible that this is justified, especially when it’s kept from her.
Anyway, I’ll keep watching and maybe I’ll feel differently but I just felt strongly in the moment that I am not rooting for Adam and Jessa. I think that would suck when considering Hannah and Adams relationship. It’s not like they dated for a month and broke up. They were a committed pair.

Water retention? Genuine fat gain? In the context of reverse dieting

I’m not happy with my body (shock horror). I’m not as fat I used to be, I used to be quite chubby…I lost some weight over a couple years and dedicated myself to getting fit and thin throughout 2024.
Currently I’m recovering from anorexia after being diagnosed early 2025 after a couple of really bad months, where I was really obsessive with exercise and eating basically nothing. Got to a really low weight, was underweight. Anyway fast forward to now and I’m actually reverse dieting and I feel like I’m still a ways off how I used to be (in a bigger body) but I still have a belly (which sort of never really went away even when I was in the absolute throes of AN) and right now, i just keep thinking my thighs have gotten bigger these last couple months. I have been increasing my calories slowly every week (reverse dieting) but I don’t believe that the calories im eating atm are still enough. Most people when they go in a deficit don’t eat this low a number, even though it is a huge improvement from this time last year…

So logically I’m thinking okay did I actually gain fat because I’m not eating a surplus (I don’t think??..).
Though I do eat more carbs but I’m still within a certain number. Even IF I’m still technically in a deficit, could my thighs still be bigger if I’m eating more carbs due to water retention?

Okay so I’m watching girls for the first time and I’m up to S4 E1 and these are my thoughts..

Ok so not loving Jessa. Maybe I just don’t relate to her character enough but it’s like she doesn’t give a shit about anyone else. Kinda selfish (but I guess all the characters are). She’s more of a loner which is fine but she goes out of her way to be a bitch, particularly to Hannah in this episode

Marnie sleeps with everyone’s boyfriends or exes and she needs to figure her shit out lol.

And I like Hannah and Shoshanna and don’t really have a lot to say about them.

Affordable loose/pressed/finishing powders? Chemist edition

Are they any affordable loose powders, pressed and finishing powders that I can pick up from the chemist?

Are the MCO beauty powders any good?

Or is there anything that’s not gonna break the bank from Mecca?
I just want something affordable right now until I can afford the better stuff

Looking after your skin outside of using skincare products

What are the best skincare tips that don’t involve skincare products?

For me, it’s sunglasses everywhere. Mum always says wear sunnies, you don’t want to get wrinkles.

But I’m interested in what other people find helps them maintain clear, healthy skin (other than skincare products and treatments).

I take a collagen supplement too. Have no idea if it works but I like to think it does..?

Face powder? One? Two? What do I need?

Hey so I’m in the process of getting new makeup.
For face powder, what should I go for?
Is there a difference between pressed powder and setting powder? Do I even have the terminology right?
Is it standard to have two different powers now?
Don’t mind if so, I just would like to know what the norm is. I’ve only ever used one face powder.

Also, do I need to go down a shade in the powder?
I’m so lost with the powders!
But I’m sick of feeling insecure about my makeup so any help is appreciated

Drugstore foundation with good coverage and durable

I really need a new chemist foundation with good coverage that sits nice and lasts throughout the day.

Also… are we using beauty blenders to apply foundation or a brush? I’ve been using beauty blenders for the last couple of years, thinking it was better for application but my mum has said my makeup hasn’t been looking good lately (thanks, mum).

Do your thing, reddit!
Thanks so much

Edit:
Okay sorry, didn’t realise people were gonna be dicks about the whole drugstore thing but I can’t edit the title.
Chemist, pharmacy foundation.

What causes us to do this?

Why do I pick at my scalp?? It feels like it came out of nowhere. Only within the last year for me.
It feels like such a weird thing to do.
I don’t understand it.

But finding it hard to stop.
I don’t really pick anywhere else. I used to but now it’s pretty much only my scalp. It’s so bad. But I get an odd satisfaction out of picking flakes of skin from my scalp out of my hair or brushing them out into my sink.
I’m interested in other people’s experiences and stories, specifically with the scalp.

Reverse dieting ?

Hi!
I’ve tried doing reverse dieting method as I experienced alot of negative body image as I increased more. I’m from Bris, Aus and I was taken on by an eating disorder service and encouraged to eat more, and I did that but it felt like they were challenging me to eat more with no real effective strategies to cope with the changes in my body and it kinda just felt like I needed to tick boxes with the service rather than it being personalised to my eating disorder experience…anyway, I’m trying reverse dieting and am currently at around xxxx a day. Im not really exercising but you mentioned it was importance to do strength training and such and I would love to do this but am just worried about my heart. Should be incorporating some kind of exercising at the moment or should I hold off until I’m eating a bit more? Also I tried to really prioritise protein but ended up not eating hardly any carbs throughout the day amd I felt my energy, which was already low, plummet. I was pretty much only eating protein until dinner, thinking it was going to fill me up and make me feel satiating but surprisingly, it didn’t. Unless it was more mental hunger. I sort of worked out that I need carbs in the morning, obviously because my blood sugar drops over night. Anyway, any tips for reverse dieting at the moment?

What make up products should I be using to give me a matte look?

Hi
I feel like I don’t know what products I should be using
Currently, I’m wearing foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, liquid contour , eyeliner, blush, face powder, etc

When I go out for the day, it always kind of ends up looking “wet” after awhile… I guess I sweat it off… and when I try to mitigate that by putting more power on, it just looks too powdery, cakey and a bit wrong

I just want that matte, airbrushed look other girls my age seem to have and to be honest, I just don’t really know what products are going to give me that result.
I feel like the answer is in the powder and the kind of powder I’m using.
I think I’m just using a normal stock standard face powder from Rimmel I think. Funnily enough, I think it’s a matte powder but it doesn’t really give me that effect.
Have been looking at mecca products but just don’t really know what I’m looking for.

I don’t want to overcomplicate my make up either. I just want something that’s affordable and that is going to give me that desired matte look.

Any help would be appreciated. I’m open to anything.
Thank you!

Trying to understand why I pick at my scalp…

I haven’t been diagnosed with this but i feel that i have this. i dont really have an explanation for why i do this but i find it hard to stop. it's very strange. i used to do pick at my belly button (which is super embarrassing and disgusting) but i stopped because it became so sore and raw and bloody. but for about a year or so, i've been picking at the skin on my scalp and get a weird satisfaction out of it. i create piles of my skin. as i write this, i sound like a pyschopath. i swear im kind of normal haha apart from the fact that im trying to recovery from anorexia. my ed is fairly new in some ways but i guess to be more accurate, its been festering in the background for a large part of my life (im 21 currently). but as far as affecting my health acutely, my AN has been apart of my life for about 1 and a half. anyway, not sure if one has to do with the other. it concerns me that i find Picking out my scalp to be satisfying and get a weird pleasure out of doing it. i feel as if it does help occupy my mind. if im being honest, it kind of helps pass the time as i wait for the next opportunity until i can eat. so that's probably a bit revealing a bit there. but i havent talked about this with ym pyschologist or gp. i feel embarrassed bringing up yet another problem when the solution seems simple. just stop doing it, right? well that logic doesnt work for anorexia so im going to hazard a guess and say the answer is not the cut and dry for this too. just eat is a total simplication for eating disorders. i do feel my ed is getting better though but im not fully recovered. anyway, can anyone offer anything, an explanation as to why? is there some article or journal article that explains this condition as i wouldnt mind doing some reading around this. i like knowing the language and vernacular around topics and if i do have this then, i want to know more

thanks a lot!
