Name suggestions?

I have a character. Male, large, white hair, dad bod. Total lumber-snack, though.

His current name is Beau. But I hate that I misspell it so many times. Most commonly, I start writing or typing beautiful, realize it's wrong, and it throws off my whole writing flow.

They live in modern times, ambiguous area with forests and a major city.

Edit: he's about 30 years old. Also. I don't really want to go to the name registry for that year, and choose a common name.

Naming Characters

I have been working on my story for a while (like 2 years). I also read in my spare time. I had names picked out for my characters long ago. But now I keep seeing the same names in books SO. MANY. TIMES. And I don't want them to be like that.

Would you keep the names of your characters? Put new ones? Out of 4 characters, only 2 am I super set on. The other 2 COULD change. And if I do change, how would I go about finding new ones that don't end up in the same boat?

WIP time loop

I want unbiased opinions on this particular aspect of time loops. It is completely central to my whole story with underlying themes of fate vs. chance.

The question is. If the MC is experiencing the same day/week/month over again, would it also be reasonable to assume the people around the MC also have subtle changes in their lives.

I.e. every Monday, the 23rd, the MC deals with construction on the way to work.

But. The new temp that started at the MC's office in loop 1 doesn't start there in loop 2 because when he called in for his temp assignment that morning he had called 5 minutes later so instead he got a temp job at another office.

As such, our MC never meets this temp in loop 2.

Thank you in advance!

Consequence

My 7 yr old has been doing summer camp. She had a previous indecent of someone looking under the stall at her when changing for swim. We had a long talk at the time how and why that wasn't OK and if it happened again to tell the counselors and us.

Today she was caught doing it to others. She is suspended from camp for the rest of the week. But I don't know what consequence for home. Nothing matches that I can think of, but i don't want her staying home like any other day.

Thoughts on consequence?

I am at my wits end with consequences

I, 36f, am at my wits end. I feel like I'm failing. We are trying to gentle parent the best we can but my daughter, 7 (I'll call her B), is just not....being responsive.

Examples. She lies about the stupidest things. Not changing underwear. I asked today FOUR times if she changed them. "Yes, Mama." Then we get to bed time routine and she tries to hide the fact she didn't by attempting to change them sneakily (I'm not normally in there, to be clear, I was helping her change her sheets). When I asked why she didn't do it this morning and then when I gave her the opportunity to fix the issue, she lied. "I didn't lie. I forgot to change them. " B you didn't! I asked multiple times, and multiple times, you assured me you did.

We recently caught her attempting to steal a chapstick from a pharmacy while I was dealing with the meds. My husband saw her try to hide it. When asked why, she said she wanted to try the cherry flavor. I reminded her I had the same one in my purse, and she could've asked and gotten some. She said she wanted her own. She does. Or has had. She just loses it in her room.

Which is a different thing. B's therapist suggested a reward system with tangible things. We had beads, so we went with that. Brushing teeth, feeding the dogs, etc. Things she already does as well as extra things, such as folding her own laundry, cleaning a bathroom, etc. Then she can use those beads in exchange for electronic time (1 bead = 10 min), her own ice cream from the store, etc.

But it doesn't help. She just chooses not to do things and oh wells.

When punishment (we say consequences) are brought up she's either non challant (fine, what do I have to do this time) or has a complete breakdown (scream crying, begging, etc). We've tried mayoral consequences, yelling, taking toys away, walking the stairs in our home (something physical to help regulate her emotions), and this week writing lines (she hates this the most but idk). That's not it but are the most recent.

I just don't know what to do anymore. We have a session with her therapist in a few days, but I'm at my wits end.

When is it time to say goodbye?

As the title says, when is it time to say goodbye to your pup? I know most say when the quality of life isn't quite there. But how is that determined?

Context. My Alice (lab/pit/mutt) is 13. We had a vet suggest she has arthritis in her back and hips, and she has fatty lumps on her body (the biggest being about the width of a quarter). Our regular vet said at her age it's not really worth biopsying them as even if it was cancer, theres not much to be done. Within the past couple of months, she has been struggling to get up after laying down for longer than an hour (though she sleeps most of the day anyway). Like. Her back legs just won't hold her weight the first few times she tries to stand. And if she slips on the hard floor (we have rugs most places for her), it takes her a few minutes to get up. She eats her food most of the time, but there have been times she just... won't eat for a few days.

We have an appointment for her tomorrow for some annual xrays (covered by vca plan). I'm just worried they will say.

But how do you determine it's time?

My appointment is today!

I need help finding inspo for my hair. I was thinking a bob. I have straight, fine, lots of hair. I know it doesn't look straight right now, I threw it up in a bun after washing it.

When I google I find such stylized pictures I dont know if it'll look good on me. Picture is most recent I have of myself. I also honestly don't know my face shape. I also added a couple potential inspo? Idk though

Clean or dirty?

Do stylists prefer their clients to come in with freshly washed hair? Or would you rather a few days past to see how it lays?

Sorry if this is a gross question, I've always gone in with freshly washed, and some stylists will act like it's a put out that they are asked to wash it again.

Is it worth hearing them out?

I am currently low contact with my parents. I used to be very close to my dad, and less so my mom. They are still married.

When I moved across the country, I sent them a letter explaining why I'm going low contact with them. Explaining some of the things that were abuse that they did to me as a kid, etc.

I've been going to therapy, and my therapist is insisting on the route of forgiveness "for me." She constantly asks if I've given them a chance to tell their side.

My question stands. Is it worth hearing what they have to say? Hearing them try and defend themselves?

How do I get a good consultation?

I am trying to figure out what I, as the client, am doing/saying wrong.

I've seen many stylists say that as soon as a client says "no one ever does it right," they think the client is difficult. But at the same time, I see skits of how a good consultation vs. bad consultation can go, and I have never gotten the example of the good one.

I bring in inspo pics and always say I'm open to what the stylist thinks would look good on me. I know I'm not a stylist. I know stylists went to school to learn how to make people look good. I trust experts' opinions over my own.

But I'm never asked about daily routine, product I use, anything like that. 9/10, the stylist curls my hair, and sure, I like it styled and fancy, but I do not have time to do that every day. So I end up washing it a few days later, and it looks completely different, and I end up not liking parts of it and have to just throw it into a ponytail until it grows back out.

So. What do I need to do/say to get someone to listen and actually help me leave with hair I can maintain and actually love.

For context, I usually only get haircuts. Maybe a deep condition if it's winter. I had one stylist I found but was only able to be with her for a year before she moved.

Should I find a new therapist.

I've been seeing my therapist, we'll call her J, for about 5 months now. I really liked J at first. But the more time goes by the less I like her.

For one, J is pushing forgiveness for my parents who were emotionally/ mentally (still is) and physically abusive. I know by definition forgiveness is for me not them but. I've tried to express that I don't think I can ever get to forgiveness and J insists it would benefit me and keeps pushing it.

Two. I find myself disagreeing with a lot of J "homework" assignments. I do them. I just don't find them helpful. I.e. Journaling.

Three. J doesn't seem to understand or even want to understand some of my viewpoints. I.e. my kids are allowed to have their own toys that they don't have to share with their sibling if they don't want. Or that my spouse and I ask to go into their rooms before entering if they are in there, and the kids are allowed to say no (they can't lock us out, but can say no). J kept saying but it's the parents house so why do we let her dictate if we can come in or not.

Maybe it's a cultural or generational thing between us. She is Hispanic, religious, and in the boomer generation. I'm white, non religious and millennial.

I've also already had to find a different therapist once before in this office, so it makes me anxious to have to start again.

So. Should I seek a different therapist.
