Bend for a week!

Heading to Bend September 1–7 over Labor Day weekend and would love some help building out our itinerary! We’re coming from out of state, in our late 20s, and will have a car, so we’re definitely willing to explore outside of Bend and drive a couple hours for something really worth seeing.

We’ll be working remotely most of the weekdays but have pretty flexible hours, so we’d love recommendations for hikes, swimming spots, breweries, restaurants/bars, or other outdoorsy things that are realistic to do before or after work. Then over the weekend we’ll have full days to explore and would love to take advantage of being in Central Oregon, whether that’s bigger hikes, lakes, waterfalls, scenic drives, or day trips outside Bend.

Since we’ll be there around Labor Day, is there anything going on that weekend that’s worth checking out? Also, since we’re coming from out of state, is there anything we should be booking or preparing for ahead of time? Any trail permits, parking passes, reservations, or other things that tend to fill up that weekend?

Would love to hear what you consider the must-dos for a first trip, as well as any places that are overrated or worth skipping. Basically, if you had a week in Bend with flexible workdays and a full Labor Day weekend to explore, how would you spend it?

Morocco for 6 days, where should we go?

my boyfriend and I are going to a wedding in Granada at the end of September and want to spend about 6 days in Morocco afterward before flying back to NYC.

We’re open to pretty much anywhere, but we’re thinking it would make the most sense to pick two places so we’re not constantly moving around.

Right now we’re looking at combinations like:

  • Marrakech + Atlas Mountains
  • Marrakech + Essaouira
  • Tangier + Chefchaouen
  • Fes + Chefchaouen
  • Marrakech + Agafay

We like beautiful scenery, good food, markets, unique experiences, some hiking or outdoor activities, and also having time to relax. We’re not interested in spending time in Casablanca.

For anyone who has been, which two places would you choose for 6 days? What were the things you did that actually felt worth it or memorable? Also curious about the easiest way to get there from Granada or Málaga, and the best place to fly back to NYC from.

Would love any honest advice, especially on what not to cram into such a short trip.

Has anyone experienced chronic migraines that seem tied to HSV-2 outbreaks or prodrome symptoms?

I’ve had chronic migraines since I was young and have been on birth control since I was about 14. About a year and a half ago, I was diagnosed with HSV-2, and ever since then I’ve noticed a really strange pattern that I can’t seem to figure out.

Almost every time I have an outbreak, I get a migraine. The weird part is that the migraine usually comes first, often before I even have lesions or obvious outbreak symptoms. Sometimes the lesions won’t appear until days later.

I’m trying to understand what’s actually causing what.

Are the migraines possibly triggering outbreaks because my body is stressed or inflamed? Or are the migraines actually part of prodrome symptoms from HSV activity before lesions appear? Or are hormones somehow involved and everything is feeding into each other?

Before my HSV diagnosis, I definitely had migraines, but I was not getting them this frequently or with this kind of pattern attached to them.

I feel pretty helpless at this point because honestly the lesions are not even the worst part for me. It’s the chronic migraines and nerve pain that seem to come with everything.

For context, I’m already on daily antivirals and have tried multiple antiviral medications. I’ve also failed multiple migraine medications over the years. I do Botox for migraines, take Nurtec, and also take nerve pain medications associated with the headaches.

I’ve seen infectious disease, autoimmune specialists, and had extensive bloodwork done and everything always comes back healthy.

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced anything similar or figured out any connection between HSV outbreaks, prodrome symptoms, hormones or birth control, nervous system inflammation, and migraines.

I’m also wondering if I should get my hormones checked because I feel like my body is stuck in some sort of inflammatory or stress cycle.

Would really appreciate hearing if anyone has experienced something similar or found anything that helped.

does anyone have recs where to look for airBNB that’s on body of water for a summer weekend. easy to get to by car from the city and somewhat affordable with splitting (not talking like a Hamptons experience). would like to be on body of water or close to it. if you know anyone renting for a weekend let me know!
