Would this be feasible for a handy beginner?

I recently got this pair of armchairs (one damaged, one like new) for free, thinking I might try my hand at reupholstering the damaged one (and if it turns out well, doing the second one to match).

I'm an elementary school teacher, so I have a *lot* of time on my hands for the next 6 weeks. I haven't reupholstered a piece of furniture before--the closest I've come is making new cushion inserts for our sofa and sewing covers for the old ones to repurpose them as pet beds. But I enjoy working with my hands in general and have 20+ years of sewing experience. Does this sound doable, or would I be biting off more than I can chew?

Second coat of Rubio--questions

I'm refinishing our table with Rubio Monocoat. I was planning on a second coat on the tabletop but ran out. I would love to finish this project this weekend, but the store near me that carries Rubio doesn't have this color in stock. Would it be a terrible idea to do the second coat with a similar color? Also, how long should I wait/how should I prep for a second coat?

Cracks around cooktop cutout--what now?

Our quartzite countertops were installed today, and there are cracks in three of the four corners of the cutout for our cooktop. The installers packed up and left while I was out picking up my kiddo from camp, so I didnt have the chance to talk to them about it. The ones at the back are fairly inconspicuous, but the one on the front looks pretty bad--not happy about that one and definitely not happy about having 3 cracks in all.

Is this just the risk that comes with stone countertops, or are they at fault here? What would be a reasonable request in this situation?

Blotchy tabletop?

I'm refinishing a table--the original finish was sticky/gummy, and there were faded spots where it looked like the finish had totally come off. After chemical stripping and a round of sanding with 120 grit, the faded spots are still looking blotchy (pic 2 shows the area dry; pic 1 is after wiping with mineral spirits). Can I just fix this with more sanding, or is there something else I need to do?

A lobster is actually a soldier, a crow is actually a priest, the crowned kings are actually The Beatles, and the stranger is actually...

...can't wait to find out, lol. This is my 5th year following the hunt and every year my solve could not be more wrong. But hey, it's a fun little cognitive exercise and I lowkey love all the rabbit holes I fall into along the way.

For those of you new to the hunt, welcome. A little tip: if your solve is perfectly logical and doesn't require any inferential double-leaps, it is DEFINITELY wrong. 🤣

A little bit of irony in today's NYT Spelling Bee...

"Unknitting" is a recognized word--but "tinking" is not. 😅

I cannot catch this mouse/rat!

Our back door got left open overnight two weeks ago...and we spotted a "visitor" in the kitchen the next day--it was too fast to tell if it was a mouse or a small rat. I've tried snap traps with a few different baits (cheese, peanut butter, Nutella, dog kibble) to no avail--the traps don't even get touched as far as I can tell.

Is it time to switch gears and try some other style of trap? Put out poison? Or should I keep going with the same traps that have been out? I read about pre-baiting for rats--and given how long I've been unsuccessful, I'm now assuming it's a juvenile rat. If I try pre-baiting, how long should I give it before setting the traps?
