Salmon past date

Life got real life-y the last two weeks and my partner and I didn’t have time/bandwidth to cook like we had planned when we were grocery shopping. I just had to throw out a ton of stuff, is there any hope for this salmon? Can I freeze it? Cook it today/tomorrow and then freeze it cooked? The use-by date on the package is oct 02. I think we got it sept 26th 😬 it’s been in the fridge since then.

Update: I threw it out 🫡

Seeking donations to support our neighbors!

Hey y'all! As we all know, Asheville (and everywhere) has lots of folks experiencing food and housing insecurity. Mutual aid is our lifeline. UATE Survival Programs runs a weekly meal/supply distribution in West Asheville, and we just opened up a 24/7 Little Free Corner Store down the road! Our programs are available to everyone; you don't have to be impoverished to take advantage of a free meal!

We're always seeking community support, but especially now as our unhoused neighbors are in greater need due to the G20 preparations.

If you are able and willing to donate any food, clothing, hygiene supplies/toiletries, camping gear, or other relevant items, now's the time! We're also looking for volunteers to help us maintain the LFCS as well as for our weekly distro. If you like to cook or want to help prep meals, transport gear, set up/break down our site, pack harm reduction kits, etc., reach out!

Donations can be dropped off at our Wednesday distribution on the corner of Haywood and Oakwood from 6-8pm every week, or the same time & place this Friday (8/28) as we have an extra distro this week! You can also bring donations for the Little Free Corner Store directly there; it's across the road from the O'Reilly's on Haywood (1065 Haywood Rd). If none of those options work, send me a direct message for another drop off address!

Feel free to send me a message or DM our instagram @ uate_survival.programs with questions!

Bulk Black Beans

I’m part of an organization that gives out free meals, and I’m not usually one of the cookers but this week I’m helping out. I have:

- A crapload of dry black beans (~⅓ full Lowe’s 5gal bucket)
- Two 14.5oz containers of chopped celery/onion/carrot mix
- 64 oz veggie broth, can get more

I can get a bit more of cheap things, but ideally the less money I spend the better. It needs to stay vegetarian and ideally vegan. I have two slow cookers at my disposal.

I don’t know what to do as far as soaking or not soaking the beans overnight and using the slow cookers. I thought I’d see if y’all had any input! Thanks!

Pests or harmless?

I got this little guy last week, it’s thirsty in the picture but I found this opened sac and whatever came out of it while watering. It’s currently living outside in filtered sunlight. Thoughts?

Who dis guy?

The last few days these guys have been getting trapped in my screens at night when they’re attracted to my grow lights. Never seen them before this week but there’s 4 or 5 this morning. I had no luck trying to google their features. Hoping to find out if I should make a point of releasing them or if they’re invasive.

River bug!

Who dis guy!
Found in VA in a cove off the Potomac just before it flows into the Chesapeake Bay. Sorry for the shitty video, I was using someone else’s phone and way too excited about oysters and bay bugs and birds

P365X Macro Tacops

Been shooting for a little bit but just got my own first gun! Put 250 rounds through it a few days ago, I’m very pleased. Forgot the paper targets when we went to shoot so I zeroed the red dot without them, shit was not easy 😂

Tonight’s visitors!

Left my grow lights on longer than usual and these guys were two of many species who popped by

Caught some rat snakes gettin down and dirty in my yard

Hopefully this doesn’t break the sub’s rules 😬 They let me observe for a good while! Very cool to see. Fingers crossed we get another generation of these guys on our property!

Please tell me this is AI why does the title need to be 75 characters oh my god

Just found this in another subreddit. As a lifelong equestrian I’m praying ts is fake but I don’t know anything about boats. The mini doesn’t show any indicators of being AI except that I can’t tell what’s draped over his back. The road sign is for a real place in Oklahoma
