2:1 Macro with Schneider Pyrite on Novoflex bellow

The lens is really optimized for 1:1, but with a little extra extension it goes even closer.

Update on 1:1 film scanning with Novoflex Balpro1

Hi Folks,

Sorry for the quick tests. I'm dealing with family emergencies, but I know there's some interest in this area.

I just bought the Novoflex Balpro1 bellows for my 907x/100c.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/269730-REG/Novoflex_BALPRO_1_BALPRO_1_Universal_Bellows.html

For extra extension, I included the FotodioX 20mm extension tube to the camera to get even closer, for more than 1:1 reproduction for 35mm slides. This might not be necessary with a different lens mount, see below.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1486057-REG/fotodiox_macrotube_auto_xcd20_pro_automatic_macro_extension.html

The FotodioX is connected to the Novoflex HAXPRO adapter that gives an XCD mount to the Balpro1 bellows.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1411790-REG/novoflex_haxpro_adapter_hasselblad_x_cameras_x1d.html

The HAXPRO adapter and the lens mount are secured to the bellows with two thumb screws.

For the lens, I bought the Novoflex Novoflex Pyrite f/4.5 90mm with PROV38 Mount. This mount allows the lens to be focused to infinity.

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1781406-REG/novoflex_pro_pyrite90_90mm_lens_for.html

I'm going to replace the mount with the 'Novoflex Flat Adapter for 38mm V-Groove Lens to BALPRO Bellows' to get extra extension, but this is a trade off for infinity focus.

Everything is mounted on the Negative supply PREMIUM CURATED KIT FOR 35MM AND 120 FILM SCANNING.

The photo of the building shows the uncropped maximum extension of my system on a 35mm negative. I just shoved it in the wrong carrier, so it doesn't lie completely flat. But you can see that a 36mm negative almost fills the width of the 43.8mm sensor. To my eye this is as sharp as possible, except the edges where the film was curled (easy to fix).

Overall I'm quite pleased, because I'll primarily be scanning 6x6 negatives that don't require > 1:1 repro. But I think with the new lens mount, and the right film carrier, it will be just as good for 35mm.

I hope this helps. It took a lot of research to get this far.

1:1 Macro for film scanning

Here's my first test using the Novaflex Balpro 1, Schneider Pyrite 90mm and the HAXPRO adapter. This isn't full extension of the bellows. It's night and day better than extension tubes on the XCD lenses.

I’m using my 907x/100c to scan negatives. So far the best combo I’ve found is the 38V with a 21mm extension tube. It has enough magnification to fill the frame with a 6x6 negative, but the corner sharpness, even stopped down isn’t great. I understand that I’ll be giving up a couple of bits using the electronic shutter, but I’m hoping it will at least be sharper.

I’m really enjoying ripping vinyl to the TP-7 for on-the-go listening. Mostly because I love listening to ‘sides’ rather than songs.

Now they’re starting to pile up. I’m planning to use my mac to transfer move them to the Library folder, and rename them.

Could someone recommend a Mac App where I could give them a little EQ for my headphones for a non-engineer.

BTW The TP-7 makes a decent DAP. It plays my existing flac files really well, even unsupported sampling rates like 88.2khz.
